A proponent of an extravagant Baroque style... that emphasized movement, colour, and sensuality, Rubens is well known for his Counter-Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. In addition to running a large studio in Antwerp that produced paintings popular with nobility and art collectors throughout Europe, Rubens was a classically educated humanist scholar and diplomat who was knighted by both Philip IV of Spain and Charles I of England. 05.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Anny Maddock! SA artist, Anny Maddock (born 25 June 1954) started drawing people when she was still a toddler. She completed a three year Fine A...rt course at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. This was followed by a year at the Cape Town School of Fashion Design and for the next few years she worked in fashion and as a textile designer. Her love of fabric is still evident in her work, where pastel figures are sensually draped in soft and textured materials. After branching off into numerous career and study paths such as journalism, tourism, psychology and literature, her gift for portraiture was a thread that eventually brought her back to her art at the age of forty. Since 2002, she has been a fulltime artist. See more
