24.01.2022 Posted by the Thich Nhat Hanh Sangha Dear Sangha, there is word our teacher Thich Nhat Hanh has stopped eating. There are a number of his monks traveling to hi...m now in Vietnam to be in his presence. Thay has been incredibly strong and vibrant following his stroke in 2014 and he will mark 94 years on October 11. A report from Plum Village on Sept 18th stated his health has been declining despite the best of care. Please join me and the other admins and mods of this group in meditation for Thay. Plum Village has requested we sit or walk for Thay and offer forgiveness to others as a way to continue Thay's energy of peace. If we can sit and generate compassion for others and forgiveness we increase the being and the legacy of Thay. Thay taught us the next Buddha may be the sangha. I believe your mindful thoughts and actions now for him will bring that closer and help him to touch more lives than ever as he ends this incarnation. May Thay be peaceful now in his root temple and feel the love and gratitude from all over the world.

18.01.2022 "The day my mother died, I wrote in my journal, "A serious misfortune of my life has arrived." I suffered for more than one year after the passing away of my mo...ther. But one night, in the highlands of Vietnam, I was sleeping in the hut in my hermitage. I dreamed of my mother. I saw myself sitting with her, and we were having a wonderful talk. She looked young and beautiful, her hair flowing down. It was so pleasant to sit there and talk to her as if she had never died. When I woke up, it was about two in the morning, and I felt very strongly that I had never lost my mother. The impression that my mother was still with me was very clear. I understood then that the idea of having lost my mother was just an idea. It was obvious in that moment that my mother is always alive in me. I opened the door and went outside. The entire hillside was bathed in moonlight. It was a hill covered with tea plants, and my hut was set behind the temple halfway up. Walking slowly in the moonlight through the rows of tea plants, I noticed my mother was still with me. She was the moonlight caressing me as she had done so often, very tender, very sweet... wonderful! Each time my feet touched the earth I knew my mother was there with me. I knew this body was not mine but a living continuation of my mother and my father and my grandparents and great-grandparents. Of all my ancestors. Those feet that I saw as "my" feet were actually "our" feet. Together my mother and I were leaving footprints in the damp soil. From that moment on, the idea that I had lost my mother no longer existed. All I had to do was look at the palm of my hand, feel the breeze on my face or the earth under my feet to remember that my mother is always with me, available at any time." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh See more

03.01.2022 Intelligence, Creativity and Play "Play is the only way that the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold." Joseph Chilton Pearce This is the story of a sma...ll group of children running around in a almost barren room - except for two decent sized stacks of wooden child-sized stacking chairs. All children are intuitively on the look out to satisfy their interest and motivation to participate in life through play, and these children were no exception. Their genetically encoded human 'play patterns' came out to play with the chairs because that's all there was to play with. They indusriously set about lining the chairs up, making enclosures, building a hut, making a train ... and messing up the space from a tidy adult's point of view. The next day the adults moved the chairs to a store room. End of story. We need to learn to understand and recognise play as the overarching intelligence. We who are teachers need to KNOW the patterns intelligence takes when it is unfolding into the world through the vehicle of play. We need to KNOW how to set the environment so intelligence CAN unfold through play. The environment we set will accommodate all of the 'play patterns'. We need to do everything in our power to ensure children get time to play in the real, three dimensional world, with real stuff. #playislearning #playistheworkofthechild #wearethemakingspecies #playunfoldsintelligence #playistheoverarchingintelligence #wesettheenvironmentforplay #environmentisthethirdteacher
