24.01.2022 From the Lake Daylesford Swim Classic
23.01.2022 In the interest of the health and safety of Daylesford Rotary members, and the general community, the Wednesday 18th meeting has been postponed. However, Daylesford Rotary continues to serve our community, and will keep members and the public updated on what it's doing during these rapidly changing times.
15.01.2022 May is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. Bowel cancer is Australia's second deadliest cancer, and affects 1 in 13. The risk of developing bowel cancer rise sharply from age 50, but cases amongst the under 50s are on the rise. If detected early, 99% of cases can be treated successfully. Every year Rotary subsisdises testing kits, and this year they are available online, for $20.00. The test is nonintrusive, requires no fasting or special preparation, is painless, and not messy. Check out rotarybowelscan.com.au for more information.
15.01.2022 AN UPDATE FROM OUR CLUB MEMBER, CURRENTLY IN NEPAL This is a photo of the Nurse lab material I began working on yesterday. Fascinating (and challenging) time. Poverty and Rotary help both very evident. On my way down to Sindhuli I called in to two hospitals: a Seventh Day Adventist one and a public one further on wards so crowded, queues so long. Yesterday a 55 contingency of drs plus volunteers came to inspect the eyes of all children in the school - provided glasses and made optometrist appointments - all courtesy of Rotary.
15.01.2022 Denise Purdey, one of our Friends of Rotary pruning the rosemary hedge at the Avenue of Honour interpretative sign. Great to have ‘Friends’ helping Rotary projects where they can.
12.01.2022 On July 4th at The Daylesford Cidery we celebrated the end of a successful and productive year under President Colin Metcalfe, and welcomed in returning President David Stagg. It has been a challenging few months, with more to come, but Rotarians thrive on challenge, and we look forward to David guiding us through the uncertainty ahead.
12.01.2022 Some members missed an inspiring, motivating address from Dr Shelley Bowen re the Prevention Lab initiative. This is a leap into an holistically healthier future. As mentioned previously, Rotary supported groups such as the Good Grub Club and the 5000 Club; also Rotary initiatives, such as the provision of vegetable gardens and fruit trees for the Dharma School, are all in line with The Prevention Lab's 'Better Health' outcome. 05.01.2022 In the interest of community safety, the monthly Farmers' Market has been put on hold. We support this decision, and when the Market is running once more, the Rotary Sausage Sizzle will be there, raising money to support the community.
03.01.2022 Daylesford Rotary has suspended all meetings, in accordance with current guidelines.
02.01.2022 Yesterday, Danny Moynihan of Daylesford Rotary presented Sallie Harvey and Jenny Hayes of the Good Grub Club a $500 cheque. The Good Grub Club is continuing its free meals and food packages to locals, and adding deliveries to those unable to leave home. The Boat House restaurant donated a huge amount of food, which will soon be put to good use by volunteers.
