23.01.2022 Yes, we're having THAT conversation again, Queensland! And we'll continue to have it until politicians allow the majority to have their say. And for a state cur...rently suffering from high energy costs, one would think that the benefits of more solar power would be important. According to Associate Professor Gregor Verbic from the Centre for Future Energy Networks in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at USyd, "Daylight savings shifts the power consumption an hour forward, so demand is better aligned with solar insolation". https://amp.couriermail.com.au//e538ed8aab5a566bab370dfd9a

18.01.2022 1. Maximises daylight Sunlight is good for your health and your soul. Who wouldn't want more of that? 2. Reduces accidents... Some argue longer daylight hours would reduce traffic accidents, with many occurring after dark. 3. Conserves energy It's possible daylight saving can conserve energy if people are using less electricity, like lights, in daylight. People may also be more inclined to walk, rather than drive, in daylight, saving fuel. 4. Good for business Some people believe extra daylight hours can spur summer spending. Would you be more likely to shop and dine out in the evening sun? 5. Keeping time Staying on time with our friends below the border would make it easier to keep up with interstate mates. It could also help cross-border business, too.

17.01.2022 The economic losses from not having daylight saving in Queensland are in the billions. Yes, you read that right. Businesses choose to take their operations to s...outhern states to be in sync with other states, and our state's tourism economy suffers because darkness means visitors are less likely to be out and about in the late afternoon. Annastacia Palaszczuk MP and Jackie Trad need to wake up to this reality. Not only is this a personal issue for many of us, it's a massive drag on the economy! Not to mention that the majority are in favour! https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au//queensland-s-economy-ran

15.01.2022 Did you know that daylight saving has been proven to reduce crime? According to a paper published in 'The Review of Economics and Statistics', when DST ...begins in the spring, robbery rates for the entire day fall an average of 7 percent, with a much larger 27 percent drop during the evening hour that gained some extra sunlight. https://www.brookings.edu//fighting-crime-with-daylight-s/

05.01.2022 Violent Crime A study by the U.S. Law Enforcement Assistance Administration found that crime was consistently less during periods of Daylight Saving Time than during comparable standard time periods. Data showed violent crime down 10 to 13 percent. It is clear that for most crimes where darkness is a factor, such as muggings, there are many more incidents after dusk than before dawn, so light in the evening is most welcome.

03.01.2022 Today's sunset times around Australia: Adelaide: 7:47pm Brisbane: 6:15pm Canberra: 7:36pm... Darwin: 7:07pm Hobart: 7:48pm Melbourne: 7:54pm Perth: 6:46pm Sydney: 7:26pm In fact, the only major cities in the entire southern hemisphere with an earlier sunset are Antananarivo (Madagascar), Jakarta, and Recife & Salvador (Brazil). All of these cities are well inside the tropics (Brisbane is roughly 500km south of the Tropic of Capricorn).
