25.01.2022 [INDUSTRY UPDATE] A WIN FOR CLASSIC CAR ENTHUSIASTS In August, the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development (DIRD) announced that the new Road Vehi...cle Standards Act would be delayed, from its original start date of 10 December 2019, to late 2020/early 2021 as a consequence of IT systems not being ready to handle the new regulations. As part of the new rules, the current pre-1989 rule (which allows any classic cars built prior to 1989 to be imported) was scheduled to change to a rolling 25 year rule (which would allow vehicles built earlier than 1994). Many enthusiasts purchased vehicles in this 1989-1994 range in anticipation of the arrival of the new regulations. With the delay announced and passed through parliament, AIMVIA board members have since been hard at work behind the scenes, regularly meeting with DIRD in Canberra to ensure that classic car importers are not disadvantaged as a result of the postponement of the new regulations. The result is that importers will, as of the original start date of 10 December 2019, be able to import vehicles 25 years or older, under existing regulations. This is fantastic news for classic car lovers who have long awaited a return to a rolling threshold for eligibility. Just for some eye candy, a 1992 Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 which will now be eligible for import. Feel free to add your own photos of classic cars that can soon come to Australia.

The paper consists of 77 p...ages and is extremely detailed. The Association have been working closely with VSS on these measures since July this year and would like to thank the Administrator and her staff for their efforts in delivering on time. When is a delay not a delay? In July 2019, the Department of Infrastructure announced there would be delays to the introduction of the new Road Vehicles Standards Act (RVSA) as a result of IT systems not being ready to handle the new regulations. As a result of ongoing engagement with AIMVIA and the RAWS Association, the Department subsequently created a transitional arrangement for independent importers, effectively allowing enthusiasts access to the vehicles that would have become available had the new scheme commenced on its original date of 10 December 2019. A new and improved SEVS The Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS) has undergone a major overhaul, with the new scheme ensuring that enthusiasts can, as of today, import a far greater range of makes, models and variants. For the first time ever, left-hand drive rare and exotic vehicles can be complied for use on Australia roads. A new vehicle category gives enthusiasts far greater access to EVs and hybrid vehicles. Previously-ineligible variants of existing models sold new in Australia can now be imported, providing they meet the new SEVS criteria. And most importantly, the new scheme is more robust, with every vehicle imported now undergoing a third-party physical inspection and provenance verification process prior to approval for road use in Australia. Classic car lovers rejoice! Also commencing today is the rolling "25-year rule", which replaces the pre-1989 rule as the threshold for classic vehicles. In effect, classic car enthusiasts now have access to any vehicles that are 25 years or older, opening up vehicles manufactured in or before 1994. Moving forward AIMVIA has punched well above its weight over the years, achieving a number of significant wins for our industry, but our focus remains on the long-term future of the sector. There is still much work to be done. 04.01.2022 Announcement - New York Titled Vehicles Halt on Export Dear valued customer, Please be advised that US Customs and Border Protection officials nationwide no longer have access to NY State DMV information. Without this, CBP is NOT able to validate New York state issued vehicle titles, without CBP validation vehicles are not allowed to be exported. More information can be found here.... Review below to understand how this will effect vehicles already in process with NY titles. Effective immediately: Vehicles purchased with NY issued state documents that are already loaded will not be allowed to depart without CBP validation, and will have to be unloaded from the container. Vehicles purchased with NY issued state documents that are received at Mill Wright will not be loaded Vehicles already purchased with NY issued state documents that need to be picked up from the auctions, will be delayed pick up until we have more information from CBP DO NOT purchase vehicles which have NY state documents until further notice. 03.01.2022 VSS has updated the guidance paper for the interim arrangements on their website. It now consists of 93 pages and includes instructions on how to import and pla...te a vehicle, along with determinations and evidence requirements. Please note only a current RAW can import and plate a vehicle under these arrangements which will be through VIS. VSS will be closed over the holiday period.
