25.01.2022 COVID-19 on goods and packaging Receiving packages or letters, or handling goods from affected areas, is still considered safe. The World Health Organization advises that the chance of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low. So is the risk of catching COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, travelled, and exposed to different conditions and temperature.... The best defence against most viruses is to practice good hand hygiene. Importers must continue to follow their companys existing infection prevention guidelines. This may include using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

21.01.2022 WHEN WILL WE LEARN - IF WE DONT WANT ANOTHER SHUTDOWN More than 200 people who were meant to be isolating at home under strict coronavirus quarantine laws in Queensland are missing. Since mid-April more than 2,000 compliance checks have been conducted by the COVID-19 taskforce, with officers uncovering almost 400 people were not where they were supposed to be. Of those flouting the rules, 185 had given health officials false contact details, including addresses where they w...ere alleged to have been isolating at. Another 25 people had given authorities the correct information but when police visited they were nowhere to be found. Police said 210 people remained unaccounted for and were wanted for questioning. If found, they are likely to face hefty fines for breaking the stringent stay-at-home laws in place to curb the spread of the virus.

15.01.2022 Extension of the JobKeeper Payment: The JobKeeper Payment, which was originally due to run until 27 September 2020, will now continue to be available to eligible businesses (including the self-employed) and not-for-profits until 28 March 2021. The payment rate of $1,500 per fortnight for eligible employees and business participants will be reduced to $1,200 per fortnight from 28 September 2020 and to $1,000 per fortnight from 4 January 2021. From 28 September 2020, lower paym...ent rates will apply for employees and business participants that worked fewer than 20 hours per week. From 28 September 2020, businesses and not-for-profits seeking to claim the JobKeeper Payment will be required to demonstrate that they have suffered an ongoing significant decline in turnover using actual GST turnover (rather than projected GST turnover). From 28 September 2020, businesses and not-for-profits will be required to reassess their eligibility with reference to their actual GST turnover in the June and September quarters 2020. They will need to demonstrate that they have met the relevant decline in turnover test in both of those quarters to be eligible for the JobKeeper Payment from 28 September 2020 to 3 January 2021. From 4 January 2021, businesses and not-for-profits will need to further reassess their turnover to be eligible for the JobKeeper Payment. They will need to demonstrate that they have met the relevant decline in turnover test with reference to their actual GST turnover in each of the June, September and December quarters 2020 to remain eligible for the JobKeeper Payment from 4 January 2021 to 28 March 2021.

13.01.2022 Some states and territories in Australia have closed their borders to non-essential travel due to COVID-19. Heres what you need to know: Queensland has closed their borders to Victorian effective July 10 & NSW has closed their borders to Victoria effective July 8. The border closure between New South Wales and Victoria marks a significant moment in the coronavirus pandemic the last time the same drastic measure was taken was in 1919 during the height of the Spanish Flu pan...demic. But over the last century, myriad travel routes have been laid between the states. This closure will be a lot more complicated, and many of us are left with questions about how it works. Whats happening with the NSW and Victoria border? Due to the large outbreak in Melbourne and the associated risk of it spreading interstate, the border between NSW and Victoria has been closed. Physically, this means the land border, which spans roughly 1400km, is closed down with police enforcing the closure at roads that link the states. Melbourne Is Being Locked Down as Stage 3 Restrictions Return The closure came into effect at 12.01am on Wednesday, 8 July and will remain until the authorities deem it safe to allow Victorians into the NSW. Hopefully this will be in the very near future.

10.01.2022 For those of you wondering ..... What isTransshipment Transshipment or transhipment is the shipment of goods or containers to an intermediate destination, then to another destination. One possible reason for transshipment is to change the means of transport during the journey (e.g., from ship transport to road transport), known as transloading. Another reason is to combine small shipments into a large shipment (consolidation), or the opposite: dividing a large shipment into s...maller shipments (deconsolidation). Transshipment usually takes place in transport hubs. Much international transshipment also takes place in designated customs areas, thus avoiding the need for customs checks or duties, otherwise a major hindrance for efficient transport. LCL and FCL . Under an LCL cargo, where in a shipper does not have enough goods to accommodate in one full container, he books cargo with a consolidator to console his goods along with goods of other shippers. This type of shipment is called LCL shipment. The said consolidator arranges a fully loaded container (FCL), and consoles the shipments of other shippers and deliver each shipment to final destination by separating each shipment at final destination.

10.01.2022 What is Sea Freight? Sea freight transport, or maritime transport, is the most common mode of transport in international trading. Since container shipping was introduced in 1956, it totally revolutionized the logistics industry and became a big contributor to globalization. Today, a whopping 90% of the goods traded are shipped by ocean via container shipping. What Can be Shipped?... Generally, most goods can be shipped using sea freight. Though you should consult your freight forwarder or shipping agent to confirm. If your goods are weighed over 100 kgs, theres a good chance and probably the best to use ocean freight. However, there are restrictions applied to which commodities can be shipped by sea. Also, there are special containers designed for dangerous goods, perishable goods, and temperature-sensitive goods. Make sure your shipping agent understands what you are shipping. www.dblogsol.com.au

In response to the rapid expansion of BMSB throughout Europe and North America, the department has strengthened the seasonal measures to manage risk of BMSB from arriving in Australia for the 201920 BMSB risk season. The department has used a range of scientific, intelligence and evidence based information when setting the measures including data collected from the 2018-19 BMSB season onshore verification activities.... 08.01.2022 Andrews defends plan to keep Vic in state of emergency until Sept 2021 - Premier Daniel Andrews has defended a plan to extend Victorias State of Emergency powers that would not see them lifted until September 2021. The opposition indicated it would not support the bill meaning the premier would need four Upper-House crossbenchers to back it when it was introduced in parliament next week.... The powers would allow the Victoria government to extend a state of emergency in four-week blocks for up to 12 months as well as greater powers to enforce mandatory quarantine, COVID safe plans for businesses and mandatory mask-wearing. Mr Andrews defended the plan and argued getting back to normal "wont ever be an option" if the state could not "protect what it had already achieved". "Extending State of Emergency is about ensuring that we can legally make the changes our health experts need to keep us safe, he said. "This does not change how long our current lockdown will last, or increase the restrictions we face."

02.01.2022 National Cabinet has endorsed a new Domestic Border Control Freight Movement Protocol to keep freight moving across Australia. National Cabinet agreed to upgrade the protocol to an Enforceable Code by state and territory jurisdictions. The protocol, endorsed by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee with the involvement of members of the Transport and Infrastructure Council, outlines measures that all States and Territories agree will allow freight to move safel...y and efficiently across borders. National Cabinet also agreed further work be carried out by jurisdictions on the implementation and enforcement of an industry code which, in-conjunction with the protocol, will minimise risks and exposure to workers and the community from COVID-19. Freight operators keep Australia moving and we have seen them work tirelessly over the past few months in particular, keeping shelves stocked and the economy running by connecting businesses and goods to markets, the Deputy Prime Minister said. They should not have to put their lives at risk, nor the lives of their families and friends, as they continue to work through this pandemic". Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport Scott Buchholz welcomed the protocol, saying it paved a clearer path forward for freight moving across internal border controls. Having been involved in the freight industry for many years, I know just how vital our freight supply chain is to the lives of all Australians as it connects hard-working local businesses to markets, Mr Buchholz said. Our freight industry underpins jobs, strengthens the national economy and secures our future prosperity. We know this has been tough a time for the industry, with our freight operators often required to cross multiple internal borders in a single trip facing the critical domestic border controls State and Territory governments have had to operate to stem the spread of COVID-19. Aligning state and territory measures through this protocol will ensure smoother inter-state journeys for our freight operators and reduce delays in the supply chain.
