16.01.2022 Hello All The Deviot Community Association will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Friday, September 25th at 7pm. The meeting will be followed by a long overdue social catch-up! All positions will be declared vacant and community members are encouraged to consider joining. Being on the committee won’t require much of your spare time as meetings are minimal and attendance / coordination of functions is on a voluntary basis. ... The DCA has a strong membership which continues to grow. The committee’s efforts are centred on maintaining the hall and coordinating & promoting activities that are run in our community. The Deviot Hall is an historic landmark of the West Tamar area, built in 1921 alongside the Tamar River, which includes within its grounds a tennis court, heritage orchard and children’s playground. Our hall is unique in Tasmania, as it is owned, operated and maintained by our community, rather than by local government. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be the custodians of this historic community hub which promotes health and wellbeing to Deviot residents and residents of the greater West Tamar region. The hall is utilised for a great variety of activities including: garage sales, produce markets, yoga, tai chi, U3A classes, dance nights, BBQs, etc. Next year we also look forward to celebrating the hall’s CENTENARY, so we appeal to anyone with ideas and enthusiasm to be part of the committee as we start planning for that very important milestone. If you do not wish to take a committee position you are still very welcome to attend. After a brief meeting there will be a chance to catch up with local friends and neighbours over some FREE DRINKS and NIBBLES!

09.01.2022 Our next big project is to fix up some of the really boggy parts of the Paper Beach Track by building a boardwalk! We know how many people love Paper Beach, the... track is used by around 80 people per day thru the week and twice that on weekends. Some areas have suffered badly thru winter, muddy tracks are slippery, and as people walk on the sides, damage is done to the bushland in the reserve. We have decided to dig into our group savings to buy some timber planks for the new boardwalk from a generous forester and group member. The boards were picked up today from Gowrie Park by volunteers, it will be treated in the coming weeks. IF YOU WANT TO HELP... We are seeking donations of old or broken treated pine posts to use for bed logs. If you have any posts or other short lengths of treated pine, please message our group..every bit helps to protect the track!! We also need batten screws, wire netting to make the boardwalk grippy, and volunteers to help with the construction bits. Watch out for posts about working bees to lay the track, should be fun.
