This year’s NAIDOC theme is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ recognising that First Nations people have occupied and cared for the lands on which we currently live, work and play for over 65,000 years. On Monday, our Springfield office took part in a Smoking Ceremony. To celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the team have also planned activities including a hall of fame, weaving workshop, trivia lunch, and a visit to Toowoomba’s Binangar Centre at Cobb & Co. #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

Steve Royle, an exercise physiologist for Health Management Solutions Queensland, recently facilitated a special eight-week Healthy Eating and Activity Lifestyle Program (HEAL) with Elders who regularly attend a Kambu social group to improve their health and wellbeing, and to assist manage their health concerns where nutrition and exercise can... have an influence. Steve is passionate about provide exercise and nutrition sessions to vulnerable communities and the HEAL Program. 15.01.2022 West Moreton Health is opening an extra fever clinic at Orion Springfield Central shopping centre tomorrow morning (Wednesday 26 August) to test people with s...ymptoms of COVID-19. The drive-through clinic - in the western carpark of the shopping centre, off Sirius Drive - will operate from 8.30am to 4.30pm. Avoid the early morning rush if you can. Parents of children under five may be referred to another clinic in West Moreton if it is deemed unsafe to test them in a vehicle. There are another two extra walk-in clinics running tomorrow at the Bundamba Salvation Army Hall (8am to 4.30pm) and at Mater Private Hospital Springfield (8am to 4pm). If you are attending the Mater Springfield clinic, please take your Medicare card. Depending on demand, you may have to queue for testing. Bring water and snacks, plan your toilet breaks, and wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather. There are many other COVID testing locations in West Moreton. 15.01.2022 Our partners at Queensland Ambulance Service are setting up a COVID testing clinic at Westminster Warriors Soccer Club, off Moreton Rd at Redbank Plains from 4p...m to 6pm today. Anyone with symptoms in the Redbank, Redbank Plains or Goodna area is invited to go down to the club and get tested. The QAS clinic will open again from 8am to 5pm tomorrow. No appointment is needed but please take your Medicare card if you have one. The West Moreton Health clinic at the Salvation Army Hall at Coal St Bundamba is open to the public tomorrow from 9am to 4.30pm, and people are invited to attend if they have any of the following symptoms: sore throat, fever (or night sweats or chills), runny nose, loss of taste or smell, diarrhoea, cough, shortness of breath or fatigue. 10.01.2022 Lives Lived Well works across the Darling Downs region to provide services for people seeking support for their own or another’s alcohol and other drug use. Through recent funding from the PHN, Lives Lived Well has been able to expand its current supports to include a service in Goondiwindi. Previously, support for people in Goondiwindi and surrounds was provided by an outreach service. The additional funding enables Lives Lived Well to engage a full time AOD Counsellor Case ...Manager to be based in Goondiwindi to provide face-to-face as well as telephone and online counselling. Lives Lived Well’s Manager (Clinical Services) South West Queensland, Lindsay McMahon said the new service provided a greater opportunity for the organisation to support the community of Goondiwindi. Through the outreach service we started to build a significant base of people to support in the Goondiwindi region, Lindsay said. With our new office opening in the town, we can provide full time support from a local counsellor. 05.01.2022 Over the past few months, the PHN has been working with CRAICCHS in Cherbourg to improve support, education and cultural safety and understanding in the community. To assist fostering this, the PHN and CRAICCHS have been working to open dialogue with the community to better understand barriers and opportunities within the local area with the view to resolve identified gaps and needs. As a result, a Yarning Circle is being established to offer a safe space for community membe...rs to talk about what they are seeing in the area and to discuss their concerns.
