13.01.2022 POSITION AVAILABLE Legal and Justice Administration Officer, Rethinking Criminal Records Project, Centre for Innovative Justice RMIT Administration officer role available in the Centre for Innovative Justice at RMIT. Two days a week, Hew 4. Please see further information below.... Note: This is not an identified position, but we would prefer to employ an Aboriginal person for this role. HEW level and time fraction: This is a HEW-4 level role, funded for .4 FTE. Role description: The role is to provide administrative support to the project management team in delivering the Rethinking Criminal Records Project (Reducing barriers to employment for Aboriginal people: rethinking the role of criminal record checks). Project summary: Criminal record checking can be a major barrier to employment in Aboriginal communities. RMIT University and Woor-Dungin are partnering on a project to find ways to improve employment opportunities for Aboriginal people, and to support employers in recruitment of Aboriginal people. The project has been funded by the Victorian Legal Services Board for three years from 2019-2021. It builds on the Criminal Record Discrimination Project (CRDP), a project initiated by Aboriginal communities with Woor-Dungin in 2016 which advocated for legal change including spent convictions and anti-discrimination legislation. The Victorian State government has now announced that it will legislate to introduce a spent convictions scheme for Victoria, including protection from discrimination in relation to old and irrelevant criminal history.
