25.01.2022 Finally we get to have our live update Auslan interpreted just like other states! Welcome your feedback that I can pass onto ABC Darwin team.
24.01.2022 Transcript: Deaf Children Australia (DCA) has been running DeafNT since 2012. DCA has sometimes delivered services without funding during this time.... We have now made the hard decision to close the Darwin office at 5pm on 30 June 2020. We are very sorry to have to do this, it is not an easy decision to make. We had been receiving funds from the Northern Territory Government to deliver advisory and advocacy services. This funding ended on 31 December 2019. We applied for an extension, but unfortunately, we were not successful. We understand this will disappoint many people. We will work with our clients to make sure they know which services in the Northern Territory can assist with their individual needs. This will take place through one on one sessions. Our DeafNT coordinator will arrange a meeting with each client. We will do the best we can to help you find services to suit your individual needs. Please contact us if you are not sure about where to seek support, or to ask questions, or for any other reason. You can contact the DeafNT Coordinator via: Email: [email protected], or SMS 0429 452 016. Or contact the Melbourne office via: Email [email protected] SMS only 0409 553 121, or Telephone 1300 645 916. We will be offering services in the NT remotely, which will be announced in the coming months. If you wish to remain with our services, stay in touch, we look forward to assisting you. The services will be delivered through DCA’s head office in Melbourne. Thank you to all our clients, past and present, our former and current Coordinator, and our former staff and volunteers, for their hard work in delivering outcomes to communities in the NT. Clients include people who are deaf or hard of hearing as well as the broader community. You have all been strong advocates for equality, access and inclusion in the NT. We are humbled to have been trusted to deliver our broad range of services and programs in the NT. Deaf Children Australia would like to wish everyone it has supported and worked with over the past 8 years, all the very best for the future.

19.01.2022 Deaf Children Australia has read your concerns and frustrations about the DeafNT office closing on 30 June. We would like to address these for you. We are unfortunately unable to sustain having a physical presence in Darwin, we are a small organisation. It is not an easy decision to make. We know people rely on us for information and referrals, we are working toward a more collaborative approach to how we deliver services. ... We are not abandoning the deaf and hard of hearing community in the Northern Territory. We are speaking with other organisations with the aim to partner with them to collectively deliver more extensive services. We believe this is a more sustainable approach and addresses the complex issues surrounding the delivery of services in the NT. Our DeafNT Coordinator has been referring people to the services that can help with their individual needs. Deaf Children Australia will continue to help with information and referral services at [email protected] or SMS 0409 553 121. The DeafNT website includes contact details for Deaf Children Australia. We will keep you up to date on developments in the coming months.

12.01.2022 Deaf Children Australia (DCA) would like to share the news that Deaf Services and the Deaf Society will be providing services to support deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing in the Northern Territory. This is terrific news for Territorians. DCA has been in discussions with NGOs and NT Government to work toward a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community in the NT. This has resulted in Deaf Services and the Deaf Society taking on the... office lease from DeafNT. Deaf Services and the Deaf Society has been collaborating with Deaf Children Australia as we establish our physical presence in the Northern Territory and will continue to do so as we come to understand the needs of the local community. We look forward to working further with DCA and the community to ensure no Deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing Territorians are left behind. Brett Casey, CEO Deaf Services and the Deaf Society. We are delighted with the outcome for Territorians and Deaf Services and the Deaf Society. We believe partnering with other NGO’s will extend the service offer and reach across the NT, and it will offer more sustainable solutions. We look forward to further collaboration with Deaf Services and the Deaf Society, together with other NGOs. David Wilson, CEO Deaf Children Australia. We will continue to work on delivering services to support our mission to help deaf and hard of hearing children, young people and their families across Australia. We will continue to keep you updated. We encourage you to follow @DeafServices on Facebook. You can learn more about Deaf Services and the Deaf Society's announcement here https://bit.ly/321Aj9W
