15.01.2022 As we are wrapping up 2020, just in time for 2021, we would like to reflect on our key highlights for the past year. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges both for people and society. It is clear that communication and connection with our members and community is more important now than ever. As 2020 comes to a close, the Board and Staff at Deaf Victoria share our look at some of the year’s milestones. We would like to thank our partners and the communi...ty for their contribution and support. We look forward to working with you all again in 2021. VIDEO TRANSCRIPT SUMMARY: Deaf Victoria has adapted to major changes, not limited to working remotely, adapting our advocacy service delivery and project outcomes. Deaf Victoria experienced a significant increase in our inquiries, which has highlighted the needs for accessible information throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This led to our development of Coronavirus Advocacy Graphics to support deaf and hard of hearing individuals to self-advocate and navigate throughout the restrictions across Victoria. These graphics were found to be useful and were replicated by organisations in Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, and even New Zealand. Opportunities provided through our Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) grant from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) allowed for enhancement of processes such as project management, reporting and document management. As a result of the ILC grant, we were able to provide training and resources for deaf and hard of hearing Victorians about self-advocacy. The Self-Advocacy Toolkit was developed to provide the Deaf Community with the necessary knowledge and information that can assist in self-advocating for their rights. Just in time for 2021, we have just been awarded a new major project from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services. We are looking forward to hitting the ground running in 2021!

15.01.2022 Victorian College for the Deaf - Official invited Deaf Victoria to present about the work we do and why our work is important for deaf and hard of hearing people living in Victoria. Sherrie and Catherine presented via Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions; however, they enjoyed engaging with students (albeit for technical hiccups!). The most fun part was the trivia we gave to the students. They were surprised that Deaf Victoria is actually older than Deaf Australia!
