20.01.2022 Deakin University's Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN) is a research centre with world class expertise in both nutrition and physical activity. The GravityFit whole body exercise device (www.gravityfit.com) is used to train deep and postural muscles of the body. The manufacturer has engaged IPAN to conduct research with this exercise approach for justifying its use in astronauts to keep the spine healthy when in space. Astronauts are typically aged between 33 and 55 when they fly into space and are in top physical condition. The research will be conducted by A/Prof. Daniel Belavy ([email protected]) If you think you fit the criteria for the project and are interested to participate, please come to the study website at http://www.deakin.edu.au//our-r/spine-and-gravityfit-study

14.01.2022 Deakin University's Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (C-PAN) is a research centre with world class expertise in both nutrition and physical activity. This research project, which is being run by Dr. Daniel Belavy ([email protected]), who is an Associate Professor for Musculoskeletal Health in C-PAN, aims to understand how different kinds of physical activity and exercise (running, cycling and sedentary behaviour) affect the health of the spine. This infor...mation is important because it will tell us what kinds of physical activity are better for the spine. We will then be able to better advise the community to improve spinal health and reduce low back pain. If you are aged between 25 and 35 years and are interested in the study, please email us at [email protected]

01.01.2022 ****VICTORIAN NURSES**** In Australia, one in six people suffer from back pain and an estimated 70-90% will experience this condition during their lives. Approximately 13% of people without a prior history of low back pain will develop a new episode in the next 1-2 years. In nurses, this risk has been shown to be 2-3 times greater. Thus, there is an urgent need to identify risk factors in this susceptible population group. We are currently seeking nurses for a 3-year cohort s...tudy. All participants will undergo an evaluation of a range of risk factors for low back pain at the beginning of the study. Additionally, nurses that develop low back pain will complete follow-up assessments. Those who do not develop low back pain may also be asked to act as a matched-control for comparative purposes (and will receive AUD$20). Upon completion of the 3-year follow-up, all participants will enter one of four draws (based on enrollment number) for AUD$500. If you are currently employed as a nurse, recent nursing graduate or a final year nursing student, and are interested in contributing to research that will benefit the nursing profession, please express your interest via our study-specific website: www.deakin.edu.au/spine. #nurse #spine #pilates #nursing #back
