21.01.2022 Why Are transformers rated in KVA and NOT in KW? All transformers have core losses and copper losses. Core losses are based on the input voltage of the transformer, while copper losses are based on the current through the winding.... So the losses are based on voltage and current not the power factor, therefore the rating of a transformer is in Kilo Volt Amp (KVA) and not in Kilo Watt (KW). :)
