24.01.2022 #Repost @fairtradevisionaries (@get_repost) We would like to thank everyone who attended our 2020 Visionaries - Virtual Conference. We had students from Deakin University, Monash University and The University of Melbourne joining us on the night. Thank you for your support & generosity. Through ticket sales and our societies' contributions, we were able to donate nearly $200 to Oaktree! ... . Our donations will go towards building the capacity and influence of young people, both in Australia and in overseas countries. We will be supporting education and leadership programs that fight poverty and injustice in the Asia-Pacific, empowering young people with the tools and resources they need to create change for themselves and their communities. . Oaktree have previously worked with countries including Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea to provide scholarships, career and peer counselling, school renovations, teacher training and livelihood support. . We received positive feedback from our guest speakers as well as event attendees. Thank you so much for being so fun and engaging during the Q&A session. . We hope you were inspired to make a difference in your community, whether it be through volunteering, your future careers, studies or simply just starting a conversation with friends and family. . A massive thank you to Deakin Networking and Entrepreneurship Society and Vision Youth Deakin for collaborating with us, as well as Nuriyah (Oaktree), Clive (Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand), Will (World Vision Australia) and Nick (Etiko) for inspiring us. 21.01.2022 "When we studied 165 lawyers...we found that their success depended on their ability to network effectively both internally (to get themselves assigned to choice clients) and externally (to bring business into the firm)" ~ Harvard Business Review https://hbr.org/2016/05/learn-to-love-networking This is an excellent, well-written piece on how to more effectively network and incorporate it into your professional life

21.01.2022 Hey networkers! This week was supposed to be NAIDOC week but it was moved to November due to Covid-19. Still, we wanted to honour the tradition especially since it's work in promoting Indigenous Australian businesses relates to our focus of networking and entrepreneurship. NAIDOC week helps us celebrate and acknowledge Aboriginal businesses which are often overlooked. However organisations like NAIDOC provides an incredible platform to network and spread the word about these ...businesses. Check out the URLs below for more information and to see verified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses https://www.naidoc.org.au/ https://supplynation.org.au/

17.01.2022 Dear networkers, the pitch competition is an excellent opportunity to think about the causes that you are most passionate about while building your entrepreneurial skills . Pitching an idea can feel daunting, but universities are the place to try out ideas, learn who you are and be bold. We want to hear YOUR ideas about making the world a better place Because we know you have what it takes, and we're here to hear to celebrate those ideas!! I'll leave you with this: The T...hankyou brand was initially rejected by large supermarket chains, but the founders of the brand weren't willing to give up. With a bold idea, they flew their signs from helicopters (the pilots having donated their time) above the HQs of these supermarkets, getting the exposure the needed and creating an opportunity that was too good to pass up. Now Thankyou had donated $6.2 million to people in need, and it all started with a bold idea! See more

07.01.2022 Instinct - "The entrepreneurial instinct is the mental toughness that is required to make something from nothing. It is the mindset that allows you to take smart risks, thrive in ambiguity and bounce back from failure." Learned - "The key to taking risky bets is learning how to turn off the fear to light up the brain’s reward pathway...Some are born with a reward pathway that is easily activated. For the rest of us, there are a number of simple techniques that can be eff...ective in triggering a focus on reward. By learning the ins and outs of our own wiring, we can start getting out of our own way to become more skilled entrepreneurial risk takers." ~ Monica Mehta Even if you think you're not the kind of person who is instinctually entrepreneurial, that doesn't have to get in the way of achieving your dreams. A little bit of practice, or even having a go at entrepreneurship, can be a worthwhile experience in figuring out your style of business and leadership
