24.01.2022 Congratulations to the Victorian Touch League club Melbourne City Lions for winning mens, womens and mixed championships yesterday! It's fantastic that we had so many Deakin touch players represented in those teams. Our own club will continue to go from strength to strength with the extra training and mentoring from MCL. Also congratulations to the following players who won individual club awards as well- Sarah Alexander: Rookie of the Year & Coaches Award, Sammi Homewood: Mixed Players Player Award, Tom Lindsay: Mixed Players Player Award, Lizzy Motteram: Leah Percy Award of Excellence & VT League Womens Best and Fairest, Andy Yon: Officiated Mixed Grand Final. Another fantastic championship to add to our collection for the year!! What a way to top off the year!

23.01.2022 Congratulations to Trent Cornish and Kevin Monaghan from our Uni Games team who last night received awards at the Deakin Sports Awards night. Trent received a Half Blue Award for outstanding performance in our gold medal winning SUGs team. Kevin received a Full Blue Award for outstanding performance in our silver medal winning AUGs team and being selected into the Green and Gold All Australian Mixed Team. Fantastic effort by both and the awesome teams we took away to win those medals. It was an amazing night and a great way to end my Uni sport experience!

19.01.2022 Congratulations to our Deakin Uni mixed team on their killer week up at the Gold Coast playing in the Australian University Games and winning the silver medal! They won 3 from 4 of their pool games and so went through to the quarter final against Western Sydney and won 10-6, to then go onto the semi final against Australian National Uni and won 7-5. In the gold medal match against Sunny Coast Uni they fought hard and were 3 all at halftime! However with some bad calls they u...nfortunately went down 6-5 in the end, but fought so hard and never stopped working for it!! Well done on the silver medal guys, it's a credit to all the hard work you've put in for the year and the way we've bonded as a team. Couldn't be prouder!!!! Also big congrats to Kev Monaghan on being selected for the Green & Gold Australian Uni Games team. You had an awesome week running your heart out, and it's a credit to the teams work rate also!

17.01.2022 Big day for Deakin Touch Footy with our first comp for the year! We had two teams competing in the 2016 Affiliates Cup at Elwood. Both teams came together really well and competed at a high standard! The men's team 'PIGEONS' played 6 X 25min touch-down-turn-around games and finished the day as runners up, only coming down to two try's difference from the top team. The mixed team 'DEAKHEADS' (combined with a lot of the men's players) played 5 touch-down-turn-around games and ...finished third in their pool for the day. Great day out in the sun and good to see we can still play some great quality touch without training beforehand! #deakintouch #deakheads #pigeons #affiliatescup #familia

07.01.2022 A wrap out of the weekend at the Sale Knockout by Ted James DEAKIN SALES TO SALE Last weekend, the dragon flew once again in the Sale knockout tournament. Under the name Big Deaks, the crew filtered into the campsite throughout the day. Once enough had arrived, the tent was erected in no time and banter began to flow. Under the stars Deakin's brightest touch players had a ball. Before long it was time to head out. ... Special mention to Sam 'hard tag' Williams who took out best dressed with his triple threat denim attire. The next morning all a bit dusty, we got up packed and headed to the fields. Down a few from the regular crew, the Deakin's were already on the back foot with the loss of Ted 'The Stig' James to another heart string injury (hamstring). The team started well knocking up some easy wins early in the day. Kevin 'wheels' Monaghan, was having a field day scooting through with strong backing up from Louis 'the stats man' Coad and Andy 'whistle Blower' Yon. The girls held up their end of the bargain with some incredible defence and catching from Tarryn 'Tarun' Hurst, Britt 'acid drop' Kilner and Meghan 'Shut up Meg' Keast. Late in the day we lost our spiritual leader Sammi 'Frodo' Homewood to a suspected broken ankle. After a trip to the hospital, it was luckily a badly sprained ankle. Deakin progressed to the final where they came up against a very well drilled out fit. The game was tight from the outset with deakin taking an early lead. However, the opposition turned it on and ran out the victors. All in all Deakin had a great weekend of banter and touch, with great atmosphere and friend to boot.

The alteration of the competition now allows for teams to submit a division 1 & 2 team in both Men's and Women's. All clubs are seeking new players and anyone is welcome at trials. Georgia Walker and Izayah Ropata have been elected as your new Team Managers going forward this year, being passed on by the great Andy Yon. So if you have any questions about anything Deakin Touch related please get in contact with us!... Just a quick run down of a few important dates for 2017 so far.. - Sale Knockout (Mixed) - April 8th & 9th - Fawkner Park Winter Comp (Mixed) - May til August - Southern Uni Games in Geelong (Mixed) - July 2nd til 6th - Australian Uni Games in Gold Coast (Mixed, Mens, Womens) - September 24th til 29th With plenty of social bonding sessions in between! Trials for SUG's will be held on the 3rd week back, with more details to follow soon. Please let us know at your earliest convenience wether you are available/unavailable for any of the above so we can start putting plans in place.
