25.01.2022 Another test of my strength today after turning 47 years old 3 days ago. Todays workout was chest, back and abs done as a superset circuit. First superset... Bodyweight Chin-ups, 80kg Bench Press & Leg Raise for 4 rounds of as many reps as possible (20 for abs).... Second superset... 70kg Seated Row & 90kg Chest Press Machine for 4 rounds of as many reps as possible. Tough workout on my muscles & on my heart rate. At my lunch break today Ill also do a non stop 1500m swim which takes me about 33 minutes to complete. #feelingyoungtoday
24.01.2022 After not running for over 25 years and blaming my knees as the reason why I cant run I have now managed to strengthen them to point where I can run quite comfortably. Here is a video of me running at 14kph for 1 minute. This is at the end of my 30 minute interval walk/run workout. I feel quite comfortable and strong in my knees when Im doing this run however to look at it on video I seem to run in a very upright straight back position, which I think looks funny ... Im not sure if I need to change to way I run to lean forward more or just accept that as long as it feels good who cares what it looks like. Any advice from fellow runners is greatly appreciated
24.01.2022 I turned 47 years old yesterday so at this time every year I like to test my fitness and strength just to see where Im at. The weight lifting sets in this video are done after doing a 30 minute treadmill workout with 1 minute at 6kph then 1 minute at 12kph for the full 30 minutes.
24.01.2022 Ahaha I had an almost exact moment when I first started training in my bedroom 28 years ago. I managed to just get one side up on the rack but that made the bar slide down trapping my left hand between the weight and the rack. I had to call..Mum!...Muuuuuuummmm!!! And when she came in she couldnt lift the other side up cos it was too heavy, so she had to unrack the left side which forced me to roll the bar down my body to the floor to get out.... Ah the good old memories of the early days
24.01.2022 I still can't believe my luck with getting a forecast for Sunday 17th December in Summer as 23 degrees with a chance of a shower. This would normally be a crappy day for Summer, but when it's the day of your first ever triathlon and you get stinking hot running at the best of times, 23 degrees could not be more peeeeeerrrrrfect!!!!!!!!
24.01.2022 I will always fight to make sure I keep up my regular exercise routine. There will never be a 'too busy' time in my life when I can't fit it in. I would rather sleep less, socialize less, and work harder to make sure I can do it. That way I can continue to reap the full benefits of living a fit & healthy lifestyle... but that's just me!!

22.01.2022 Super happy today When I turned 47 on January 5th this year I was too scared to try to do my annual bench press strength test on 100kg because I just knew I wasnt going to be able to lift it I had a shoulder injury which has been ongoing for a few months so conceded that maybe at 47 I was just too old to bench press 100kg any longer ... But over the last few weeks I have rehabilitated my shoulder and kept training around my injury and felt confident enough to give it a go today, and heres the result...
22.01.2022 A Workout For You To Try If You Dare!!! Today for my chest workout I thought I would try something I have never done before, and only just developed the idea recently based on what I know about how many exercises, sets & reps a muscle needs to work it adequately. Instead of doing a typical chest (or any other bodypart) workout where you choose 3-4 exercises and do 3-4 sets of each, adding to a total number of sets (say 10-12 sets total), I decided to do just ONE sets of 10 di...fferent chest exercises!!! This still included doing 2-3 warm up sets first, but after the third set/exercise I went 100% effort for the remaining 7 exercises doing only 1 set for each to failure. Sometimes this was higher reps & sometime lower reps due to choosing a weight that I knew I could handle for at least 6 reps but not being too sure how much fatigue I had from the other exercises so far. What an awesome workout it turned out to be!!! I'll wait to see if my chest is sore tomorrow (the way I am normally sore from my chest workouts) before deciding fully if this is a good new method of training, but so far I am very happy :) These are the exercises, reps & weights I did today... Chest Press Machine - 60kg for 20 reps Standing Cable Flyes - 3 plates each side for 15 reps Incline Dumbbell Press - 20kg Dumbbells for 20 reps Pushups on barbell with feet raised for 10 reps (this was hard!!) Incline Machine Press - 75kg for 10 reps Barbell Bench Press - 80kg for 6 reps (this was hard!!) Incline Smith Machine Bench Press - 60kg for 12 reps Incline Dumbbell Flyes - 12.5kg for 10 reps Flat Dumbbell Alternating Press - 20kg Dumbbells for 15 reps Incline Barbell Bench Press - 60kg for 12 reps Awesome workout. 21.01.2022 WTF?!?! Its gone from saying this to myself 3 months ago... I bet its a stinking hot Summers day on Sunday 17th December for my triathlon ... ...to just hearing this today as the weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday... The storm will roll in at around midnight Saturday and stay with us for approx 48 hours, bringing with it low maximum temperatures around 20 degrees and almost a months worth of rain. SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
19.01.2022 Just found out my actual start time for my team category in my triathlon this Sunday is 8.53am. Thats a lot later than I expected. I was thinking more like 7.30am or thereabouts. Good job its only forecast to be 23 maximum because by the time I get to the run at around 10am it could have been very hot. Fingers crossed it stays that way or drops even further. I love a cool run With such a late start hopefully more people might be keen to come down and watch us? ... Anyone? .... Anyone? .... Bueller???
18.01.2022 I was super happy to complete a full 60 minutes on the treadmill which included 30 minutes straight at 10kph plus intervals of 1 minute walks then 2-3 minutes runs of 9-11kph. Totaled 9km by the end of the 60 minutes. Then I saw the guy next to me who had already done 40 minutes at 8.9kph when I started, who was still going at 8.9kkh when I finished my 60 minutes He ended up doing a full 120 minutes at 8.9kph uninterrupted which was a total distance of over 17.5km. Well ...done to my gym member Jayaprakash Pendem. I had no idea your fitness was so good. A very impressive effort. Im sure at one stage during my run I looked over at him and he was asleep while running?!? He looked so zoned out and peaceful. Im sure I heard snoring noises
17.01.2022 Exactly 4 weeks today until I do my first ever triathlon Almost 12 full months of training has gone into this. Ive surpassed what I thought was an almost impossible thing with my running. I can now run a solid 30 minutes at 10kph and can even now get 12 minutes straight at 11kph. Well on track
15.01.2022 Here is the run sheet for my first ever triathlon which is only 8 days away now. It would be great to see some supporters come down to help us get across the finish line. We are doing the Pursuit category so our start time will be at 8am. Thats a fairly reasonable time on a Sunday morning for you to still get a sleep in, I think?! Any support would mean the world to us. You may even enjoy it so much youll consider entering the next one we are thinking of doing on 15th April next year.
15.01.2022 Here is a video of me coming in after my first run during my Triathlon that got changed to a Duathlon, meaning instead of a swim first it was a 2.5km run first, followed by a 20km ride, then another 5km run. It has taken me 12 full months to go from not running for the last 25+ years & not being able to run more than 30 seconds with bad knees to be able to do this run of 2.5km in 14 minutes & 41 seconds (i.e. average speed = 10.27kph). I know that my running style doesn't look the best, which annoys me far more than it will entertain anyone else, but when I am running it actually feels good and it is comfortable and i feel like I am running with style (hehehe :P).
14.01.2022 Its now only a Duathlon due the the wind and massive waves. Im not too upset about that on this crappy day. Oh well, Ill just have to smash the ride and run
14.01.2022 Sometimes I get frustrated hearing people explain what they believe are the reasons why they can't exercise regularly, when the reality is that their reason is 100% an effect of NOT exercising regularly. If they would just be honest with themselves they might realise that the solution to their problem lies within the problem itself. Regular exercising will cure most of the problems that you think are what is stopping you from exercising in the first place :)

12.01.2022 Never thought I would ever be so happy to see a weather forecast of only 24 degrees for a December Summer's day, as I am for this Sunday. I will be doing my first ever triathlon on Sunday at 8am, and I have realised that not only do I need to battle my cardio fitness & my knee issues, but I also have to contend with running on these stinking hot Summer mornings, which I have been doing for my training over the last few months. Well luck is definitely on my side, because at ...this stage the weather forecast for the day of my triathlon this Sunday 17/12 is... 24 degrees with a 40% chance of rain!!!! YAY!!!! I would much rather run on a cool morning with some light rain than a stinking hot morning like my workout yesterday. Thank you weather Gods!! :)

12.01.2022 Today is my 46th birthday, & every year since I was about 35 I have tested my strength on my birthday just to see how much I have lost (if any) as Im now getti...ng older in weight training terms. I know I wont be able to bench press 100kg for much longer, & for the last 5 years I have said I think this is the last year. But today I was able to just squeeze out 1 rep on 100kg at a body weight of 85kg. Woohooooo!! Plus I still did bicep curls with 20kg dumbbells, plus at the end of my weights workout I did an interval run on the treadmill for 20 minutes getting up to 12kph for 1 minute. I actually feel younger now than I did when I hit 40. Im putting it mainly down to getting into cardio training for my triathlon. I now love running & riding & swimming. I never thought Id ever say that Bring on my looming 50th I say
10.01.2022 My weight on 22nd December = 84.0kg My weight today 8th January = 86.6kg You could say I enjoyed Xmas up to my birthday on 5th January. But now it's time to get... back on track with my eating & exercise to get my weight back down to approx. 82kg. If you are planning on losing weight as a new years resolution, but you haven't already started your diet & exercise routine, you need to start TODAY!!! If you leave it any longer you are greatly reducing your chances of success.

08.01.2022 As part of my annual strength testing on my birthday every year, here is my attempt at doing flat dumbbell press with 40kg dumbbells. Im very happy with this at 47 years old . I may have done a little pee pee in my pants on the last rep though?!

06.01.2022 You just need to wear your shirt backwards during the bike ride she said!?!?! So after picking up our entry packs for our triathlon on Sunday, my fellow teammate Holly was told that we need to wear our number on our back during the bike ride, but then it must be on our the front of our top during the run. But instead of providing us with two placards with our number on it so we could have it on both our front and our back, this highly organized event chose to only give us O...NE placard with our number on it, but told us to attach it to the front of our running shirt and then just ...wear your top backwards during the bike ride?!?! Are you kidding me?!? You cant just provide two placards to each competitor? Youd rather every single person look like idiots wearing their shirts backwards during their bike ride? Well Im not up for that, so I photocopied and laminated a second version of mine There will be no backward shirt wearing for me... suckers!! Oh, and as a good teammate I also made a second one for my two other teammates

01.01.2022 WIth only 3.5 weeks to go until my first triathlon, for some reason I am soooo nervous before each of my workouts the last few days?!?! I am right now about 1 ...hour away from doing a 10km ride followed by a run of 3-5km and my stomach is currently churning like a dishwasher. :( I understand this is all probably just part of the preparation process, but I hope I won't be like this for the next 3.5 weeks :(
