12.01.2022 Divorcing or Separating couples are just a fact of life, with some statistics pointing to a 45% split rate of matrimonial pairings.... When a couple owns a share in a property, it is common for one person to want to keep the property and the other wanting to be bought out. A word of caution here Do not just call your lender and ask for the other person to be taken off the loan!... To buy out the other person, the loan needs to be refinanced, with a payout (if available) to be made to the exiting person. I can also assure you that refinancing with the same lender may not be the best move either. Inevitably, when relationships fall apart, payments are sometimes missed and credit card balances are maxed out. These factors all form part of the "historical conduct" of the account that your existing lender must consider when they are refinancing. Sometimes it's best to go to a new lender, explain the circumstances and submit a new application. If you or anyone you know is looking to buy out their former partners share in a property, the best advice you can give them is to use the services of a FinanceCorp Mortgage Broker.
