23.01.2022 The Deans Marsh Trials are going ahead this year!! 22nd 23rd & 24th January, 8am start each morning. The Open will start on Friday morning, followed by the Novice after lunch. Saturday will be Open & Improver, also Sunday morning. The finals will be after lunch on Sunday.

21.01.2022 This year because of COVID restrictions we will not be offering catering at the grounds. There will be Tea & Coffee only and it will be bring your own cup! We dont want to use disposables, because they're not! Cold drinks will be available for purchase at the grounds. Deans Marsh Store will be open and the New Salt Brewery will also be open for Breakfast lunch & dinner. These are both a 3 minute walk from the trial. Otherwise bring a picnic and make a day of it!

18.01.2022 Look out for our local chef extraordinaire (Lloyd Phillips) who will be doing some catering Fri & Sunday of the trials. Friday night: there will be Slow roast dinner - Beef & Pork, and vegetarian lasagne. Community members are welcome $15 a head. On Saturday the Hall committee will be providing breakfast: sausages, egg & bacon rolls, Lunch will be a barbeque. Dinner at Martians cafe. Sunday lunch: roast pork & beef rolls & falafels... Look out for Leah Bakes: cakes, slices & biscuits with tea and coffee over the weekend. See more

17.01.2022 Deans Marsh Dog Trials - 3 day event running Friday - Sunday Jan 19-21st at Deans Marsh Rec Reserve 10-4 each day Brilliant family outing, place for a picnic and a chance to admire the skill and unspoken partnership between dogs and their two legged partners as they compete to move three sheep around a course of obstacles and yards- all within a set time and without losing points for going off course.

The obstacles are up the yards are all set and the sheep are looking great. The grounds are beautiful! 12.01.2022 Here is an example of some good handling by woman and dog. The sheep are moved to a perfect position in front of the gap. If the dog was left to continue it pro...bably would have pushed them past the obstacle. The dog was told to lie down which settled the sheep and gave them time to find the gap. To send the dog around the sheep would have spooked them. However a minimun amount of pressure was all that was required to move them through the gap. A cool head and a well trained dog did the job. 11.01.2022 Registrations have closed and we have 30 competitors & 130 dogs from all over Victoria, SA, WA, NSW & Tasmania. Its going to be three incredible days of demonstrating what the dog and human partnership can do. Dont miss out!
11.01.2022 The dog trials started today at 7am and around 60 dogs were put through their paces. Starting with the Open & Improver before lunch where a few scores in the 90s were made. After lunch followed the Novice dogs. Saturday morning we will resume with the Open & Improver Event and finish with rest of the Novice dogs. On Sunday the Open & Improver will continue followed by the finals. If you would like to see some top dog s and their handlers come along and have a look. Catering supplied tea coffee yummy cakes and beautiful lunches available for purchase.

11.01.2022 Day one was a hottie... Day two was cooler but the sheep were not making it easy! Great competition and persistence in the open comp- including a few face-offs.
10.01.2022 A beautiful morning for the second day of the trials today. We have started with the Open & Improver the sheep are being pretty cooperative and we have some good scores up already. Today will go to about 6pm.

07.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE RE HEAT: The Dog Trials Novice event is now beginning tomorrow at 6.30am because of the heat. We will stop when the temperature gets hot and be breaking until the cool change comes through in the afternoon. (Forecast to be 2pm). This is for the welfare of the dogs, sheep, participants and organisers! The fire danger index for tomorrow is severe if that changes up we will be cancelling tomorrow and resuming on Saturday. We will keep you updated.

06.01.2022 Day Three of the trails is where excitement builds . There's the Open and Improver Trials and of course- the finals! They look calm under their hats ( that's the handlers not the dogs) but inwardly there's anticipation and keen friendly rivalry. Skills are tested and the partnerships between human and hound are strengthened. What a terrific chance for us to be part of this very Aussie competition! Trophies and prizes presented in the afternoon.

05.01.2022 Things are heating up for the Dog Trials this weekend, we have over 30 competitors and 102 dogs competing , every state is represented. If your looking for something exciting to do, come down to the Marsh and have a peek. The Open and Improver is starting at 7am on Friday morning, the Novice will be on after lunch and continuing on Sat & Sunday with the finals on Sunday afternoon. Food will be available for purchase everyday, beautiful Leah bakes cakes and slices available all weekend, the Hall & Rec committee are doing a BBQ lunch on Saturday, and on Sunday the baked potato van will be there! Gold coin donation at the gate.

04.01.2022 The grounds are quiet and a beautiful sunset at the end of the second day of the Deans Marsh Dog trials. Our Novice final results were Eddie Thompson with TK Finito on 178, 2nd Carmen Blyth with Sommerville Poppy on 172, 3rd Colin Cosh with Marong Debbie on 153, 4th Bill Paton with Romlee Queen on 149, 5th Geoff Gibson on 148. 01.01.2022 We are soooo happy the Deans Marsh Dog Trials are going ahead this year! We will be happening on the 22nd 23rd & 24th January. 8am start each morning. The Open event will be run Friday morning until lunch time, then the Novice will start after lunch. Open & Improver will be also run on Saturday & Sunday morning with the finals after lunch. This is a little documentary put together from footage taken over the years.
