25.01.2022 Council’s agenda for their first meeting reveals it’s more of the same old same old..... the highly flawed practices of the last 12 years for managing the business of Council continues The only difference being that the organisation has now clearly outlined just how ridiculous the whole charade of portfolios actually is.... What a wasted opportunity to make our Council better. #MoreOfTheSame #MoretonBayRegion

20.01.2022 Some call this economics.......probably not the economist though? This quote probably best encapsulates Moreton Bay Regional Council Draft Regional Economic Growth Strategy. The strategy isn’t a strategy at all. ...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Limitations within the regions own tourism sector are becoming glaringly obvious..... now there’s a need to contract tobowfins from outside the region. Yes apparently it’s time for consultants from say Brisbane to come and tell Councillors what they have no clue as residents already exists in their own backyards... The question is how much will this sort of quest to fill the obvious vacuum of leadership and strategic thinking cost ratepayers over the next four years. Moreton Bay Regional Council is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced consultant to develop a Regional Tourism Infrastructure Priority Project Plan (the Plan). The Plan is to identify tourism infrastructure opportunities in the region that will help to support further growth in the region’s tourism sector and support more private sector investment. The implementation of the Plan will identify the Region’s untapped tourism offerings, improve the utilisation of these areas as well as increase the economic benefits for the region. The hinterland region of Moreton Bay is an untapped resource, a sprawling natural beauty with unique views of Brisbane city, Moreton Bay and the Glasshouse Mountains that are not fully utilised or recognised by residents* or visitors. So there you go, residents of the Moreton Bay Region, if you only knew that there was a hinterland and how to use it then partly this rather embarrassing consultants report wouldn’t be required to being with. Really got to wonder where the millions Council has already been spending on tourism in this region have gone. Maybe the limitations have become glaringly obvious that the existing arrangements ain’t that beneficial to Council at all. One of the key objectives required of the consultant will be to identify opportunities to create/integrate complementary private tourism investment/activities on council land and on land adjacent to private facilities Wonder which mates sites that will target. Council wants to explore a mixture of project opportunities to ensure that it can mobilise rapidly to get easy wins immediately and to build community and stakeholder confidence in the industry. Great objective..... not so sure about this exercise engendering any confidence in Council though if these sorts of initiatives are required to be repeated time and time again at great cost to ratepayers over the next four years. It’s all about when the consultants, layers of mid-level managers and reports take the place of leadership and strategic thinking.....its costly. #moretonbayregion

16.01.2022 News for Dolphins but what about the Turtles? The print media advertising industry is in retreat with even major retailers like Coles abandoning dumping weekly catalogues in our suburbs in favour of more sustainable digital forms of communication. Not in the Moreton Bay Region which is apparently at the same time the new silicon valley of the world on the cutting edge of innovation.... The Dolphin News has emerged from the peak of the ruins of the advertisers in QuestNews and it’s wrapped in plastic to be distributed fortnightly. 50,000 of those plastic bags floating around every second week along with tones of paper. Just when our footpaths were looking so much better for not having the additional waste now we’ve got more plastic bags to float around the bay too. It’s 2020 but the same old same old continues. Our environment will suffer because our local small businesses are continually held back by misdirected spending which fails to transition our region to a digital economy. Small Businesses should be encouraged to contribute less to landfill and the degradation of the local environment and not more. The Dolphin News beings life even without the need to mention the degradation that blatant self-serving content and promotion does to our region. Nothing to celebrate here. #SameOldSameOld

08.01.2022 All Smiles - Road Safety Week We should be targeting zero, but in the last two months alone Moreton Bay Region’s road fatalities are nearly 50% higher than the twelve months prior. It’s a shocking statistic and Mayor Peter Flannery is using Road Safety Week (Aug 24-28) to say enough is enough.... Police will tell you there’s no such thing as an accident, driver error is always a contributing factor, he said. So put your phone down, slow down, and pay attention. It will save lives. Queensland’s laws are now the toughest in Australia for people caught using their phones, with the state government now jacking up fines to $1000 and three points, as well as rolling out new enforcement cameras. Honestly it’s getting to the point where there’s not much more governments can do, this responsibility is on you. Talk about honesty.......seriously. How about Council fix the roads in the region and do it’s part as a Local Government rather than just lay the blame on distracted drivers, victims as innocent passengers and other road users. Moreton Bay Regional Council can do plenty more. What a joke! #MoretonBayRegion

06.01.2022 The Moreton Bay Region is one of the fastest-growing regions in the Country..... but one of the first acts of the new Mayor/Councillors is to halve the number of meetings that they have to attend. Can ratepayers halve their wages too? ... The last Council was terrible but at least they did double the work for the same money. #MoretonBayRegion

03.01.2022 This sort of a social media comment from a Councillor really doesn’t meet the communities expectations of that role. #MoretonBayRegion
