22.01.2022 APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2021 NATIONAL STUDENT COMMITTEE ARE OPEN If you are a medical student with a passion for advocacy and the link between the environment and our health, we want to hear from you! We’re looking forward to an incredibly exciting year of planet-saving on the DEA NSC in 2021 and would love you to bring your passion, enthusiasm and skills to the team! ... Click the links below for more information: a) Position descriptions https://bit.ly/30QiDgG b) 2021 NSC Application Form https://bit.ly/2PGyVCm Despite COVID, 2020 has been a fantastic year for the NSC. Read what Rose has to say about their experience this year on the NSC: It has been an amazing year being a Project Officer for the NSC. It is one of the few organisations where I get to contribute to something bigger than myself - to be part of a greater movement. In the ‘Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power’ documentary, Al Gore said: Anybody who decides to be a part of helping to solve the climate crisis has a constant struggle between hope and despair. This statement perfectly captures my journey in trying to fight climate change, to educate myself more about our world and recognise the importance of leaving the planet in a better place than when I arrived. There is nobody else other than the NSC that I would like to work alongside, an organisation that is comprised of passionate and dedicating individuals who share the same ambition.
22.01.2022 Recently two of our DEA committee members, Mi & Mike, got out and about exploring at Seal Rocks, on the beautiful NSW coast . For some of us, our capacity to go exploring is limited at the moment, so we thought we’d share a snapshot of their trip. We hope it can serve as a reminder of the incredible world that still exists out there, even if many of us currently can’t enjoy it as we usually would. It’s out there waiting for us! Also, don’t forget there are many small ways we can connect with nature and reap the health benefits tune in to our Nature Prescription posts for ideas!
22.01.2022 Are you in need of some motivation for climate activism? We have an excellent opportunity to share with you! The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY Australia) is taking place online from 6:30pm Friday 5th February-12:45pm Sunday 7th February, the theme for which is: Restoring the Climate:... I am the solution. This event is for young adults who want to learn, hear from experts and discuss the climate change issues Australia is facing, network with like minded individuals and organisations, share knowledge, hear stories of success and failures from others, learn how to find common ground to make changes in behaviours, and learn the importance of community and supporting others within our community. The conference is free to join, and under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the official Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). If this sounds like something you might be interested in, you can learn more at https://tiny.cc/lcoy australia 2021, or go right ahead and register at http://tiny.cc/RegisterLCOY21au.

01.01.2022 26th January is a day of celebration for many Australians, but it marks the anniversary of the beginning of dispossession and colonisation for Aboriginal and To...rres Strait Islander peoples. As doctors we are deeply concerned about the high levels of disadvantage that First Nations peoples continue to face and the impacts this has on their health and wellbeing. This long-standing inequality is also at odds with the values that make us proud to be Australian. Today and every day we must all work together to achieve just and equitable outcomes for Indigenous people, so we can all celebrate a future we can be proud of.
