25.01.2022 Sept 10, 1897 - First person ever arrested for drunk driving (Taxi driver in the UK) AND Sept 10 1977 - Charlene Williams meets Gerald Gallego at a poker club in Sacramento, California, resulting in one of the worst serial killing teams in American history.... (These were done on a lovely pair of Spanish backpackers who met here in Aus, so kinda similar. Idk about about the killing side of things though) #funtfacts
23.01.2022 Wrapping up my final artist talk this Sunday! These have been a lot of fun and I have really enjoyed getting direct feedback, hearing all the different thoughts about my exhibition as well as considering really interesting questions! Big thanks to all that have made the effort to come out so far, it is truly appreciated There are only a few spots left, but you wont be turned away if you turn up (and usually someone is a no-show anyway).... 10am downstairs in the main foyer of the Eddie 'Koiki' Mabo library. See you there! (Link to reserve) https://libcal.jcu.edu.au/calendar/events/ #drawntothemabolibrary #artistinresidence
21.01.2022 "The Pond" View of the NE corner of the Eddie 'Koiki Mabo Library. The original A3 and resolved work from my residency exhibition. The larger works allowed for greater tonal range and more detail that I just wasn't getting on the A3. #sizematters... Note in the top left corner is a shooting star, that was a done in recognition of the James Cook University being built on Bindal land, a sign in their culture. #alwayswasalwayswillbe The white ink on black paper was a deliberate choice as a metaphor for colonisation of Australia. #NAIDOC2020 All of the white ink on black paper works sold! A medium and style I will be pushing further next year. The larger work is now part of the JCU collection so you may see it on the library walls in the future! #drawntothemabolibrary
20.01.2022 Decided on this gorgeous antique gold frame for my latest work for the 'Future' exhibition at the Umbrella Gallery next week! Do you love it? Thanks Geoff from Top Frames for the advice.... #future
19.01.2022 The leg is apt for a moving piece... #mangamonday
16.01.2022 3 Oct ’42. Germans launch their first successful V2 rocket. Unique and deadly, it was virtually impossible to intercept falling on its target at a speed of almost 4,000 mph. They rained the pain on France and England sending more than 1,100 rockets, killing more than 2,700 people from Sept ’44 until the end of the war. Post WW2 both the United States and the Soviet Union captured the German scientists and they made the ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles). #gamechanger
14.01.2022 Dr Seuss died today in 1991 at 87 years old Loved all of his books as a kid. Fascinating to find out he also drew anti-fascist war time propaganda in the same style as his beloved cartoons and was a Captain in the Army during WW2. His first book was rejected 27 times! ... Glad he stuck with it, a lesson in resilience and determination. #rip #otd
12.01.2022 Last year I hosted a team from the Australian War Memorial at my tattoo studio in Townsville where they interviewed veterans about their military tattoos. They travelled all over Australia doing interviews and now this project has finally come to fruition and will be presented as an exhibition - "Ink in the Lines" - at the AWM in Canberra soon. Fingers crossed, it will tour nationally one day! Here Stephanie speaks with Paul "Warlord' Warren. A former 1RAR soldier who lost ...a leg to an IED in Afghanistan in 2009 in an incident that killed his mate, Private Ben Ranaudo. I was in Afghanistan at the same time and remember wondering if it was any of the guys I had served with before. Paul has done amazing work in overcoming adversity and continues to be an inspiration both personally and professionally to myself and many others and is doing great work in the veteran community. I feel privileged to have heard these quite personal stories first hand assisted in getting them into the national archives. As an artist, tattooer and veteran myself, I can't wait to see this exhibition! If you are a veteran, serving member or perhaps have military pieces in remembrance, you can still add your tattoos and their story to the AWM by filling out this form. https://www.awm.gov.au/.../exh.../tattoos/TattooStories-form #inkinthelines #australianstories
11.01.2022 Stoked that Aunty Grace purchased my major work "Terra Nullius (Strikethrough)" at the opening of my exhibition. Dr Gracelyn Smallwood AM, has been a life long activist for indigenous rights and became a member of the Order of Australian for her work around Aboriginal health and welfare. She has a book coming out soon about her travels around Australia. ... The turtle has been a reoccurring motive with her family and the story behind this work really resonated with her. I look forward to seeing this in its new home. It is the last week to view the exhibition! About 85% of the artworks have sold which is awesome! I will post some pics of the art work shortly, but if you can, drop in to the Eddie ' Koiki Mabo Library and have a look for yourself. Thanks Aunty Grace! #drawntothemabolibrary #artistinresidence
10.01.2022 Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD! Actually it has erupted 50 times, but that was the big one. It last blew in '44 and we are overdue for another big one... end the year with a bang perhaps? I love apocalyptic natural disaster movies, are you ready to bug out? ... #bonvoyage
09.01.2022 September 6, 1522. Only one of the five ships that set out in Ferdinand Magellan's trip around the world makes it back to Spain. After 60,000 miles only 15 of the original 265 men that set out survived. Considered a hero and celebrated in Spain and Portugal (and more widely as an significant explorer), Magellan was killed by the indigenous natives of the Philippines whilst he was attempting to colonise and Christianise them after claiming some of the islands for Spain. Lapu-...Lapu was the Mactan ruler credited with the kill is widely commemorated as a symbol of Filipino resistance and pride. Do you know the name of the surviving ship? #howgoodisstealing
08.01.2022 Bibliochor and Penropsia. These are part of my exhibition for the "Drawn to the Mabo Library" residency. Did you see them in the stairs? They are charcoal on pages from century old old German medical books about infection.... I am really interested in what you see, what do they say to you. They also need a good home!! #drawntothemabolibrary #artistinresidence
07.01.2022 The first time I read a Roald Dahl book, I was hooked. Loved the stories and the style of the illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake. Did you know that before becoming a famous writer he was a Fighter Pilot in WW2 and had 5 confirmed kills and that his first book, The Gremlins, was inspiration for the 80's movie? What was your favourite childhood book? ... #HappyBirthdayRoaldDahl #RIP #thankyou
07.01.2022 "Float like a butterfly and...?" Today in 1978 Muhammad Ali wins his 3rd world heavyweight title, the first fighter to ever have done so. In 1966, Ali refused to be drafted into the military, citing religious beliefs and opposition to the Vietnam War. Found guilty of draft evasion he was stripped of his boxing titles, including Olympic Gold.... "Man, I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong. Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go ten thousand miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights?" A good mate of mine was an amateur boxer and wrote to Ali as a kid and Ali wrote back! I have read the hand penned letter and it is not hard to see that he truly was 'the Greatest' and why he continues to be an inspiration. #GOAT #OTD #wordsofwisdom
04.01.2022 Today in 1940, a prehistoric cave full of ancient paintings are found in France. The walls of the Lascaux grotto are decorated with some 600 animals and symbols and nearly 1,500 engravings depicting animals, including horse, deer, stags, bovines, felines, and what appear to be mythical creatures. There is only one human figure depicted in the cave: a bird-headed man with an erect phallus. How cool is that??? There are some caves around home that we drew in as kids, wonder i...f someone will find them centuries from now.... Do you know how the 15,000 to 17,000 year old paintings were discovered? #history #dyk
03.01.2022 How do you express your commitment to the 'Dark Side'? #mangamonday

The launch will be a live stream event and you can register to watch below a...nd the 2nd link will be for the viewing. (I think that is how it works?) Big thanks to all the veterans that participated in this project and sharing your stories. Super excited! https://www.awm.gov.au/form/ink-in-the-lines-rsvp https://publish.viostream.com/app/s-n9fwuit
