22.01.2022 A birdbath is the obvious meeting place for birds in any garden - surrounded by flowers in Spring, what a magical place! Be sure to top up your birdbath before the hot weather hits! I've been busy working on a few items in my studio at North East Artisans in Benalla. I'm hoping to have some new pieces in the gallery shop within the next few weeks. 21.01.2022 'Cup Stack' wall hangings can be tricky for me because I only use hand tools for cutting my crockery. I feel a real sense of achievement though when I have success with splitting the cups and saucers. The ones that completely fail are never wasted, they just become pieces for other projects! These mosaics are a bit time consuming because they need to be completed in stages with several grouting sessions throughout the process rather grouting the entire mosaic at the end. 21.01.2022 I'm not taken by fishing myself but I enjoyed making this outdoor wall hanging. I really love the background tiles - pretty much used the last of my green stash of this type. Fish is crockery and glass. The fishing line is just a straight grout line. Letters are in tile and sit slightly higher than the background. 17.01.2022 Silica dust is starting to be discussed within mosaic groups. I have always encouraged covering tiles/crockery etc with a towel when cutting with wheeled nippers/cutters to contain the dust (and it also helps to stop shards flying about) and of course wearing a mask when using cement based adhesives or grouting. I still think the towel method is a good idea, but I am now adding water into the mix and wetting my tessera before (and sometimes after I snip). This is especially helpful for me as I work quite quickly and often snip the pieces into my cupped hand rather than under a towel. There are also appropriate masks which are recommended to be worn to protect against silica dust. So, if you are a regular, casual or potential mosaic maker - do the research and look after yourself.

15.01.2022 I've had a bit of a wander down mosaic guitar memory lane after my latest guitar "Made on Earth" sold on Saturday to a lovely gent who popped in to NEA just on closing. I happened to be on customer service which was a real treat to meet the purchaser. I don't mosaic guitars often, but I was surprised to discover "Made on Earth" was at least my 8th! Each one unique, special in some way - I love them all! Hopefully all still in happy homes! 12.01.2022 I have been creating planter tubs for my front verandah over the last couple of weeks. I'm hoping to add to the collection over time. I'm working on an old kitchen boiler/steriliser at the moment. Keeping the designs simple and cost effective - my plants aren't too fussy! I finished the washing tub last week. I only did the front half - because I wanted to keep the look of the old tub and is unnecessary when up against a wall. I could always mosaic the back at a later date. ...I did all around the bucket and I grouted it today. I had a tin pot full of succulents which was looking very worse for wear (the pot) so stuck it in the bucket before I had given the mosaic a good clean but then I couldn't get the pot back out again so voila! Complete! I can change the plants out if I want to at a later date, but to be honest, succulents make life so much easier! I also have two cut off pillars at the front of my house. I decided to add matching plates to the top of each. I glued the broken plates to fibreglass mesh first and then adhered them to the top, filed off any sharp bits and then grouted. #mosaic #debdoddmosaics #gardenart #planters #gardenplanters #stanhopevic #recycledart Deb Dodd Mosaics See more

04.01.2022 It's been a while since I've made a rooster. I have 3 little bantam hens; all are somewhere between 12 and 16 years old now! They were moved several times to get here and seem to love their town backyard best. I don't always find their eggs but that's ok (except if they start popping in Summer ), it's not about the eggs - just a happy life. Of course I don't have a rooster but I reckon my hens would fancy this little fella.
