10.01.2022 Welcome to Debbie's Art Classes, coming to East Bentleigh this summer!
10.01.2022 Lesson 1: Rubbings Required materials Six pieces of white A4 paper Crayons... A pair of scissors Glue stick Optional: any other drawing materials Method Step 1 Walk inside and outside your house and use your crayons to do rubbings of a number of objects with different textures, filling at least two A4 pages. I wanted a birds fanned out tail, so I did a rubbing of a shell. You might prefer to do random rubbings and then get an idea from looking at your shapes and textures. Step 2 Back at your table, think about what shapes you would like to cut out. I am going to make an imaginary bird. Cut out individual shapes like a head, a neck, a beak and a body. You might have to trim shapes so they are aligned correctly. Place them on the white piece of paper and move them around until you are happy with the composition. Glue them down. Step 3 Place another of the A4 pages over the collaged bird and do a rubbing. Remember to change the colours if you want to. Make at least three different sheets of rubbings, trying different combinations. I experimented with mixing colours and materials, using both oil and hard chalk pastels. Step 4 Remember to store the original pasted-down rubbing and these examples in a safe place. You will need them next week for part 2 of the lesson. Enjoy, and I'll see you next week!
06.01.2022 Lesson 2: I am flying over the city Required materials A4 paper Writing materials like a pencil, pen, fineliner or a pointed permanent marker. You might also need a sharpener and eraser. ... You’ll also need additional materials for the colouring stage: textas or coloured pencils, or paint and a brush set. Step 1: draw basic composition Use the bottom half of the page to draw a series of funny and imaginative buildings. Start off with rectangles, squares and other shapes, and add mountains, parks, birds, gardens and clouds. Step 2: add detail to the street scene Add texture and other linear detail to your drawing. The buildings are zany and crazy; the detail of the buildings should match this. Think about how you access buildings. Does your drawing have windows, aerials or a stairway? Step 3: where are you going to fly? Draw yourself in the sky above the buildings. Do you want company flying in the sky? Perhaps your sister, brother or your friend is soaring through the air with you. Step 4: detail and colour Ask yourself the following questions: Do the clothes need patterns? Are there fruit or flowers on the tree? Go over all the lines with a fineliner, pen or permanent marker. Make some lines thicker. Start to introduce colour to some or all sections of the picture. Have a wonderful week; I’ll see you again soon!
