25.01.2022 Today is World Head and Neck Cancer Day! Follow the link for the video series.

24.01.2022 Largs Bay workshop update! There are some places left so the Early Bird price has been extended for the workshop on July 27-28. Check out previous posts on this page or head over to the website for all the details! Please share this post if you know any therapists who may be interested, thank you!

24.01.2022 Planning your CPE events for 2020? Consider learning how to adapt your treatment for clients with a complex health history or a history of cancer treatment. In SA there are two workshops at the lovely Largs Bay Health and Yoga on June 27-28th and November 7-8th. This is a great 'home' for this workshop with a very comfortable feel, fabulous amenities and just a short walk to the beach at lunchtime. In country NSW there will be a workshop in the Clarence Valley on August 8-...9th at the beautiful Clarence Natural Therapies clinic in Grafton. If you are a fire affected therapist or are a therapist in a fire affected town please get in touch for a special price. Statistically one in two people are expected to receive a cancer diagnosis by the age of 85 according to the Cancer Council so the likelihood of your new client having a history of cancer treatment is surprisingly common. If you'd like to see a workshop near you please get in touch. Generous incentives apply for a local coordinator. CPE recognition applies with ATMS, many massage associations and both Bowen therapy associations. Check with your association for point allocation.

22.01.2022 There are still places left on the next workshop at Largs Bay Health & Yoga on November 23-24th. 16 CPE/CEUs apply with ATMS, BTFA & BAA! Through a mix of hands on and theoretical sessions we cover the following and more- Details of common medical treatments including cancer treatments How common medical treatments can create lasting changes to the body... A detailed overview of the lymphatic and nervous systems The important questions to always ask on your intake form How to use a variety of positioning techniques to ensure comfort and safety Find out how to source reliable information on any condition Adapt your treatment for any client at any stage of life Recognise when you need to refer on to a specialised provider Keys to developing your network This workshop is held regularly at Largs Bay Health and Yoga in South Australia and around Australia for any group of therapists interested in extending their skills to work more confidently with an increasingly ageing client base. Full price is $550 with an Early Bird price of $495 if booked and paid one month before the workshop. A $100 deposit secures your registration. Call, email or message now to request a registration form or head over to the website for more information. Contact information is on the flyer attached.

22.01.2022 It is with excitement that this workshop at Theta Counselling at Coolangatta on Aug 31st - Sept 1st is confirmed. There are still spots left and if you are a qualified Bowen, massage or other touch therapist this maybe a unique CPE opportunity for you. Both ATMS and BTFA allow you to claim 16 CPE points. Please share this post if you know others who may be interested. Would you like more confidence when treating clients with complex health histories or a history of cance...r treatment? Would you like to have a deeper understanding of the lasting changes to fascia and the nervous and lymphatic systems which come with many common medical treatments? Would you like to know how to adapt what you already do to work safely and more effectively with complex clients. Would you like to understand what aspects of your treatment you need to adapt to reduce the likelihood of triggering lymphoedema in at risk clients. Beyond just cancer treatments there are a myriad of chronic diseases which your new client or an existing client might present with, from neurological disorders to autoimmune conditions and everything in between. See more details on this page or head to the website for more information.

22.01.2022 Heart of Bowen & Touch Therapies has been accepted by the Bowen Association of Australia for 16 Category 2 CEUs for the 2 day workshop! A big shout out to them also for donating the full accreditation fee to either the Tom Bowen Legacy Trust Fund or the Research Fund. Luckily they are happy to split it across both very worth while causes, who could possibly choose? So that is 16 points with ATMS, 16 points with BTFA, and now recognition with BAA! How very exciting! Next workshop is at Largs Bay Health & Yoga on November 23-24 and is confirmed! See other posts on this page, flyer attached or head over to the website for all the details. https://heartofbowentherapy.com.au/about-the-workshop/ Please share if you know other Bowen or massage therapists who may be interested. Many thanks

22.01.2022 This short video from a well respected US site outlines some of the considerations that need to be made for someone who is at risk of lymphoedema. While this video discusses lymphoedema in relation to breast cancer, lymphoedema can result from prostate and other cancer treatments which involve radiotherapy, sentinel node biopsy or surgical removal of lymph nodes. This video is made for patients, but as therapists who may be unfamiliar with the risk factors it is well worth watching. The life long risk of lymphoedema is the reason that therapists need to take a detailed health history including the question "have you ever had...?" rather than "do you have...?"

21.01.2022 I can't believe it has been 3 years since I launched this workshop! Time flies! 2020 as we all know has changed how training is delivered. 19.01.2022 "Healing means becoming more whole no matter where you are in this process..." - William Collinge This video is just long enough for a coffee break so take some time out today to be totally inspired by the power of touch for those with medical challenges and their care providers.

19.01.2022 What a pleasure it was to spend the weekend with an amazing group of therapists for the last workshop of the year! A big thank you to everyone who has supported relaunching these workshops this year. I am so grateful for all the positive feedback. 18.01.2022 Much of the focus of cancer related lymphoedema is on breast cancer however it is relevant to many other cancers including prostate cancer. Follow the LSGSA on facebook for the latest events.

17.01.2022 Hi Everyone! The new website seems to be up and running so please check it out. You can even see this page from the home page so you won't miss anything!

17.01.2022 We spend a bit of time in the workshop discussing fascia and the implications of many common medical treatments on it. I love this video, I think I need to invest in a fascia suit for the next workshop!

16.01.2022 We're 10 days out from this unique CPE opportunity for Bowen and Remedial Massage Therapists and there are still spots available. If you'd like to join us I would love to hear from you. 16.01.2022 This is some of the amazing feedback from the first two workshops in Largs Bay and Coolangatta. Thank you all for your kind words, it reinforces the value of this workshop as quite a unique CPE opportunity. Upcoming dates are Sun/Mon October 27-28th in Williamstown, Vic then I'm back to the beach at Largs Bay on the weekend of November 23-24th. There seems to be a theme with beach side venues! If you know any therapists who may be interested in this workshop please share this... post or the flyer below. CPEs apply! Many thanks "It was so enlightening to be there and be able to be much more aware of how I am doing things. But also to get the assurance that a lot I was doing correctly. To revisit fascia again was amazing. I think I had lost a lot of my awe of this amazing system. " C.W. "More aware of the information on client history and intake forms. Research - medications, types of conditions, and adapt my treatments accordingly. Be present" J.D. "Learning about new conditions, new approaches to client interactions, different ways of positioning the client. Good balance of power points, notes, discussion and practical. Much food for thought even for experienced therapists." N.C. "Being able to work with the elderly and people who have cancer or other illnesses with more confidence." K.M. "I enjoyed the sharing of stories and experiences, notes and videos were all very relevant and quite moving... Learning about different cancers and care types available to clients. It also confirmed to me that I am going down the right path." K.O. "Awareness, positioning clients, readdress my client intake form. Great information for referral and support services." S.C. "Well paced and appropriate for therapists new to this field of work. " R.R. "Great work Deb! You bring an approach that incorporates your personality, knowledge and experience. Refreshing, revitalising my approach to clients especially those ageing and with increased health issues." P.P. "All the knowledge on caring for our clients. Great to get more information on cancer and treatments etc. Hearing other's stories." Sonia "Knowledge, practicality, revelation, care and thoughtfulness" Y.C.

15.01.2022 There have been some fantastic stories on this over the years so it's good to see the $40 head phones finally getting out there. Such a small price to pay to bring comfort and even improve memory and the ability to communicate!

13.01.2022 Workshops in Largs Bay and the Clarence Valley in June and August are now cancelled. It is with optimism that I leave the November workshop as scheduled! This is a tough time for all therapists but as they say, tough times never last, tough people do! Good luck and stay safe everyone!

04.01.2022 So lovely to see this message reinforced!

02.01.2022 Anyone who follows this page or has attended one of the workshops understands the focus this course places on lymphoedema risk particularly for those clients with a history of cancer treatment. Over the last couple of months I have had the pleasure of reviewing some online modules for patients with or at risk of lymphoedema. Lymphoedema physiotherapist Andrea Mangion has self funded this project in an attempt to ensure quality education is available for anyone who needs an un...derstanding of how the lymphatic system works and to understand their own risk factors following cancer treatment. Prof Neil Piller from the Flinders Lymphoedema Research Unit features in the lectures all the way through and explains all concepts in easy to understand terms. The modules are heavily discounted until the end of May and every purchase results in donations to the Flinders Foundation and other cancer and lymphoedema support services. If you are aligned with such services get in touch with Andrea through the website to see if that organisation can join the affiliate program and receive a percentage of sales. This is also a great resource for therapists to help you explain these issues to your clients! Wishing Andrea every success with this project.

01.01.2022 In all aspects of life, whatever the illness or circumstance, consider yourself the victor not the victim. Loving, laughing and lifting each other up is what life is all about. They are two of the messages from this humorous and insightful Ted Talk from Karen Mills and the story of her diagnosis and subsequent cancer treatment. Take a short break in your day and I hope you enjoy it too!
