25.01.2022 So .. like most people, I can get hectic with the admin side of my job and tired and stressed about this or that .. then in the midst of all that, my client consulting days begin. I am still in AWE of what happens in the room, of the various ways the authentic self makes itself known in the space, when there is enough safety to support that. Through a movement, a gesture, a constricted breath, a light in the face when a happy moment is touched on, even for a second o...r two .. How much that life within us wants to be seen and met and nurtured and supported in all the ways it missed when we were younger. How it delights in having clear, open, held space to explore and move and breathe and be curious, take in something new and better In session, we will always relate this deep, inner and somatic work to the people, events, challenges and opportunities in your life now and how they are creations and sometimes adaptations that began way back then. We will usually also bring in a bit of developmental brain science. But such heart expanding, deep grounded, rooted JOY for me to work with each person or couple or little piece of family unit in these ways, at the level of soul-self and life force, expressing this way and that through a human body and energy field. Brimming with the LOVE today and wanted to share. Currently the diary is booked until 11 Dec, however I am taking a small number of new clients for bookings after that and in early January. Call or text 0423 167 376.
25.01.2022 Somehow theres peace in this .. this even though most of us will have to get up and act through our lives in some way, theres peace in the concept ..
25.01.2022 Healing trauma is a lot about working with the bodys natural rhythms, creating an environment of warm attunement, where safety is felt and a kind of natural alchemy can happen between body based trauma memory and more resourceful states. It can be helpful to use tools and processes that directly access non-verbal brain domains and felt sense present moment experiencing. Coloured crayons on a blank page can help ground and strengthen an internal shift. ... A drum beat or the movement of banging it can regulate heart rhythm and bring a sense of safety and containment. Therapy can be a very beautiful multi-layered experience of freeing, grounding and expressing your true self.
24.01.2022 Do you agree #WOARRIORS? What didnt happen to or for you that was traumatic? What outcome would you have wanted to have happened?
23.01.2022 Some of us are biologically wired to suppress our needs and feelings in order to prioritise those of people we seek attachment with, often people who mirror early family dynamics .. https://letsqueerthingsup.com//01/fawning-trauma-response/

22.01.2022 An excerpt from this book by Dr Diane Poole Heller on attachment and trauma. Complex Trauma is created from an unrepaired rupture to secure attuned attachment. If this has happened to you, you might find yourself SUPER-ATTUNED to whether the people you are relating with get you and accept you. If you dont FEEL FELT by at least some one you trust, its going to be difficult to heal, function and integrate into community. ... Attunement is a powerful skill to cultivate and gift to offer others and frequently the best medicine for helping people cope with triggers and trauma adaptations. Maybe youve been told in the past that youre too sensitive. Perhaps in fact you are super attuned to detecting genuine sources of attunement that are resourced and resonating at a frequency that can help you. I cant recommend this book enough as a synthesis of somatic and attachment theory approaches to understanding and healing Complex PTSD. Here she is quoting Dan Siegel .. Dan Siegel, clinical professor of psychiatry and founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA, says that were natural born contingency detectors. 5 We instinctively know when someone gets us and when they dont. Our brain is finely attuned to this; its hypersensitive to inconsistencies and authenticity. For example, youve undoubtedly experienced times when you tell someone a vulnerable personal story and they respond with something like, Uh-huh, I get it. I know where youre coming from, but you can tell that they dont. They might believe that they understand you, but you can tell they dont quite get you.
21.01.2022 What does mental and emotional abuse look like in practice? I think personally it can be a lot more subtle than whats described here. But this could be a handy list if you have a friend going through stuff in a relationship that you just know is not right. Or it could be resonating with you. It can literally cause brain damage and needs treating and support by someone who understands about the kind of Complex PTSD that can get formed in these bonds. ... https://www.healthline.com/health/signs-of-mental-abuse

20.01.2022 #Climatestrikes What a big and important expression from young people around the country today. For me its a very important demonstration that as individuals, we can only be as emotionally and physically healthy as the broader environments we find ourselves in. ... This is nature, community, nutrition, water supply, music, art and rich environments. Mental health and wellbeing is not an individual gig. Below some photos from a beautiful community art project I participated in at Fingal Beach yesterday, led by local artist Linda Angledal Creative. #soulsneednourishment
18.01.2022 Yes. The safety of feeling understood allows our soul to rise.
18.01.2022 I love this happy little mantra to sing. Music Therapist, Allison is suggesting its a great one to sing with your kids at this time. Ive also heard lots of adults have fun with it! Go to 1:20 in the video to hear the song! ... * Melody activates the limbic system which allows us to feel, experience and move our emotions through us. An essential process for anyone experience uncertainly, anxiety, grief or fear. * Melodic mantras have a greater impact on neuro plasticity than spoken or written affirmations as the music leads to dopamine release - which is essential in the motivation to repeat the mantra. This means singing this mantra will be the most effective way of us believing the words. * The repetition of this song creates a sense of predictability within the environment which the brain perceives as safety. A brain that can predict whats coming next feels more in control and a brain in control is not a Brain in survival mode. * Singing out loud is a fab controlled breathing exercise - every phrase we sing is a nice long out-breath! * Singing activates the parasympathetic nervous system which reduces the heart rate, reduces our respiratory rate and brings out of anxiety experiences. * Children still believe in their musicality (unlike us adults who think only musicians are musical) so expressing in this way brings them joy, and creative fulfilment * Music stimulates the pre frontal cortex which will help them to think more clearly, focus, make sense of and cognitively process their current state of events. Basically, children need music but they dont need to be at school to be making it. Music For One (music we make by ourselves, for ourselves) is just what the doctor ordered! Enjoy! 17.01.2022 Is COVID 19 triggering old trauma for people? Hell yes!! I have been aware of this from the start. Im taking a little time out to nurture myself and complete development of some online trauma healing materials. ... For those with complex trauma impacts and less life resource, regrouping and finding or recovering a sense of safety and trust and personal agency may be more a medium term journey, something we build on each week, rather than a quick snap back. In fact as a global society there are many ways it needs to be a new create forward rather than a snap back and well need access to personal safety, flow, creativity, inspiration, wisdom and confidence to make that happen. So I am preparing for this longer game. Meantime this article has some helpful suggestions. https://blog.imagorelationshipswork.com/coronavirus-pandemi

14.01.2022 Dancing weekly slows down brain aging, even more than strength and endurance training, halting the decline of the hippocampus and improving balance. I cant help wondering if the group of seniors who me weekly for 18months for such things as Latin American style and Square Dancing benefited from some nice interpersonal stuff as well, eye contact, touch, intimacy and movement together ... https://medicalxpress.com//2017-08-reverse-aging-brain.html

12.01.2022 I have many clients come to me feeling shamed, hopeless and even more despairing, from this practice of spiritual gaslighting. Using spiritual concepts to drop a person right back in their trauma symptoms as a reality they created for themselves and are learning from, rather than providing the simple human meeting, empathy and compassion that could help heal and complete a triggered implicit (body based) trauma memory. Many people do this unconsciously, unaware what ...they are doing and the impact its having on another. Some do it because in some way these spiritual concepts are helping them and they misread what is most needed by the other in that moment. Many people do it because its less demanding on them personally than having to slow down and truly be with anothers pain and suffering. (Its OK not to be resourced to help if thats the case, just be clear about that to avoid shaming the person whos suffering or reached out). Some do it because they like to be right, perhaps because in their own early life there was chaos or shaming or blaming or judging and so being right became important. I always feel that any spiritual insights I might have about whats happening for a person could help to create a very gentle window for lovelingly exploring whats contracted or emerging with the other person collaborating .. not for providing lessons. I feel strongly about this. So much damage and retraumatisation can happen this way. Lets use our awareness gently and powerfully in communion with the other. More on how to do this to follow. https://www.elephantjournal.com//spiritual-gaslighting-t/

09.01.2022 Whether we are dealing with intrapsychic confusion, interpersonal conflict, or climate catastrophe, we are all interconnected. Nothing is healed, resolved or re-imagined through systems in isolation.

05.01.2022 I was sitting on the sand watching the ocean .. it was mesmerising, slow waves rolling in, flat surface, hazy sun. I ran home and got my camera, but by the time I got back, the ocean had changed, as oceans do ... I took some photos anyway, just to run around inside the beauty of it and take it home with me. 02.01.2022 Should I go with Picture 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6? ~~ I have been learning something over the last 10 years or so. Ive been learning that most people with Complex PTSD dont know they have it.... When you dont know what youre dealing with, it can be hard to get the right help, know how to best support yourself and to communicate with others about what you need. It can lead to shame, despair and hopelessness, giving up, feeling unable to be helped. And sometimes spending a lot of time and money on therapies of all types that miss the mark, re-traumatise or dont sustain. As a start point to help people know if the challenges in their life now could relate to autonomic nervous system adaptations made in early life .. and then how to support rewiring from that .. Ive prepared a checklist. The Complex Trauma Impacts Checklist. 67 pages and 4 videos of good information to help you see if you recognise the pattern in yourself or someone you care about. It will be launched next week and I want it shared as widely as possible. The task today is a simple one .. which picture should I use on the cover of the Checklist .. my own little piece of market research ... which one would make you want to open the document and read and trust whats written .. and ideally feel some warmth from the person writing it ... ?
