21.01.2022 Natural light has been proven to contribute to improved mood, increased energy, and higher morale (Edwards & Torcellini, 2002). Aim to increase the amount of natural light in your home to produce restorative qualities such as reduced anxiety and depression. 4 ways to increase the amount of natural light in any area: 1) Removing overhangs over windows 2) Place mirrors on walls to reflect light into the room... 3) Changing window coverings 4) Using light and bright colors for fabrics and walls. Artificial light sources, which include white florescent and incandescent, have shown to deplete physical and emotional energy (Edwards & Torcellini, 2002). . . . ##increasenaturallight #frenchwindowslove #askadesignertohelp #naturalligh #naturallighting #naturallightmood Image Source Jimmy Dean- Unsplash

17.01.2022 You may be wondering what it is like to work with an interior designer. When I start working with a client, from our first meeting, my intention is to help put them at ease, & build a connection with each other. I believe it's so important that we feel comfortable with each other. Designing the spaces in someone's home is an intimate activity. By that I mean, I find out how they like to live, what's their lifestyle all about, how they interact with others in their home, & w...hat dreams they might have for their future home interiors. As a wellbeing focussed interior designer, I ask lots of questions to discover what a client might need to enhance their wellbeing, & I make this the foundation of my design, the building blocks, well before I even start thinking about colours, materials and furniture selections. Listening and empathy are important skills for an interior designer, & as a former health coach to 100's of clients, & past registered nurse to 1000's of patients, I have developed keen communication skills that benefit my clients. This sets me apart as a Wellbeing Interior Designer. We begin our journey together with Phase 1: A 30min Free Discovery Call. This is an important first meeting as we find out if we are a good fit, & if I can help you with your unique project. Phase 2: a paid Design Consultation. What I do for you during this appointment (usually held on site) is find out more about your project, review your requirements & needs, find out more about your budget, your preferred design style, view any collected image/ideas, project timelines, establish a brief outline of the scope, & advise what service I think will best match your needs. This typically takes around 2 hours. I then send a proposal which includes the brief & a quotation. Phase 3 is the Design Plan. This concept design stage can include space planning, furniture & lighting plans, mood boards, and/or elevation drawings, list of sourced items, revisions & presentation meeting. Phase 4 is Design Implementation if required. 09.01.2022 Do you feel a bit overwhelmed about pulling it all together? A client used these exact words today as we chatted. Furniture, rugs, lamps, accessories, paint colours, lighting, flooring, storage, finishes, window treatments...and what if you purchase a key item and it doesn't look right with everything? What a huge waste of money, time, effort and sometimes heartache. You probably know what you like most of the time, but perhaps it's the pulling it all together that is the tr...icky part for you. If I had a DOLLAR for every time I heard that common problem expressed then I would be a very wealthy woman. Well the good news is..it is a problem I have a solution to! I can remove some of your overwhelm. Today, I met such a lovely couple on their Discovery Call, retired and downsizing from a large home they had lived in for a long time to a large apartment that needs a remodel. A huge transition that they dearly want my help to traverse, to smooth the waters so to speak. I could sense the overwhelm at times during the call, and I leaned in, as I genuinely love to help folk in this stage of their life. It's a special time of life, and I consider it a privilege to be a small part of it. I have a special place in my appointment calendar for Emptynesters, Downsizers, Retirees and those people going through a life transition. Here's a personal story...Last week, I wrote a list of the number of homes, flats, apartments, and houses I had lived in since I was 18...I counted 31 !!!! I was AGHAST. So, I do appreciate what some of my clients might be feeling, as I have lots of experience uprooting and moving and starting a new beginning in a new home, creating new spaces to dwell, whether it be temporary or semi permanent. I am trusting the house my hubby and I bought 1 year ago in Eden Hills South Australia will be our home for a long long long time! 05.01.2022 Here is a lovely lady's initial inquiry when she reached out to me: "Hi, im not sure how this all works as iv never used any service like this before . I live in a small unit and my floors are being updated from carpet to hard floors a big change for me ,as I have lived here for past 16 yrs with carpet )I love my little unit (even though it is a little dated now ) not having the carpet is going to change the whole feel about it for me .... Which is where I’m needing help . I don’t know if you help with styling but im looking for some one to help me make it into a place I love to be My son got married a few years ago so it is just me here and I want to make some changes but not sure where to start." We all want a place that feels like home, a place we love to be, and sometimes people respond to a change in life, or circumstances as an opportunity to makes some improvements to their living spaces in their home. Most of my clients have never used an interior designer before and feel a bit unsure and apprehensive about it. You might too. Clients say they find me friendly and approachable and helpful. I love hearing that, as my aim is to be me, (I bring my strengths and weaknesses), and to put my clients at ease. #newseasonoflife #emptynesteradelaide #adelaideemptynester #justmenow #homeforone #interiordesigneradelaide Image by Hutomo Abrianto on Unsplash
