05.01.2022 Vitamin K = Kindness In a world where ‘kindness’ is often confused with ‘nice’, how many of us prioritise the comfort of others, with a focus on being liked and accepted? ... Fiona says, ‘Demands for ‘nice’ are rooted in oppressive structures where specific people - such as people who identify as female and anyone who has been marginalised or whose experiences have been devalued - are expected to ‘play along’ or ‘smile’ or ‘be nice’ to please someone else or avoid making others uncomfortable.’ ‘Sometimes kindness is comfortable and sometimes its not, but prioritises doing what’s right/ best (for us, or others, even just for now) over what’s easy or comfortable.’ Being kind towards ourselves requires being able to recognise and accept our own pain and suffering, with a willingness to turn towards ourselves gently, in the same way we would for someone we care for. And that, is an act of courage #DBVitaminAtoZ #FionaSutherland #DBMiniCollection . #MindfulDietitian #HealthAtEverySize #WeightInclusive #HAES #AllBodies #AntiDiet #AntiDietCulture #AllBodiesMatter #NonDietDietitian #IntuitiveEating #MindfulEating #FoodFreedom #NonDietApproach #IWeigh #AllBodiesAreGoodBodies #SelfCompassion #ChooseKindness #Kindness #CoverReveal #Preorder #DebutBooks #WeChangeTheStory #WeNeedDiverseBooks #SmallPublisher #ReadLocal #RepresentationMatters #FullyBooked

02.01.2022 Remember the Pozible writer packages? They're here to stay! Since the campaign, Katherine and Amy have been working with the emerging writers who purchased a manuscript assessment or an ‘Ask Me Anything' session. They’re absolutely loving it!... The Australian publishing market is small and highly competitive and investing in yourself and your writing - to the best of your ability will go a long way in setting you up for future success. Have you reached a point with your manuscript where you don’t know what comes next? Or perhaps you have a list of questions about how to pave your path to publication (or a career in publishing)? Debut Books is offering you an exclusive opportunity to purchase our writer packages, enabling you to spend time with the Publisher AND the Editor at Debut Books. Usually, a manuscript assessment is with an editor, alone. These packages are designed to provide the writer with two valuable perspectives on their piece with twice the insight, support and motivation! The ‘Ask Me Anything’ sessions are designed to answer any questions you might have about the publishing process, possible pathways to publication (or careers) or general publishing advice. These conversations will be shaped by you and everything you want to know! @secretbookstuff #WritingWithDebutBooks #AskMeAnything #ManuscriptAssessment #StructuralEdit #CreativeWriting #WritingClass #AusWriters #AustralianWriters #AustralianAuthor #EmergingWriter #YoungWriters #AussieWriter #AussieWriters #AustralianAuthors #DebutBooks #WeChangeTheStory #LoveOzYA #YALiterature #YALovin #AusLit #AusBookstagram #AmWriting #IndiePublisher #SmallPublisher #AussieBooks #AussieBook #YALit #AussieBookstagrammer #AussieBookstagram #SecretBookStuff
02.01.2022 Introducing Fiona Sutherland! I came across Fiona on Instagram many moons ago and found her content and messaging to be accessible, impactful and most importantly, it hit me hard in the feels. I knew that Vitamin A to Z was going to be a powerful book and this was cemented during the proofreading stage. I was meant to be looking for spelling mistakes and incorrect punctuation but instead, Fi’s words were so impactful that I forgot what I was meant to be doing, and saw just ...how much personal work I still have to do. Breaking away from the constant messaging about diet culture takes time. It is not a straight line journey but a tangled one, a worthy one. I am so proud of Vitamin A to Z and you can read more about it from Fi below: I’ve listened to literally thousands of people’s experiences with food, eating and their body during my 20-year career. I spent my early years being a ‘good dietitian’, dutifully performing what I thought and was led to believe through my lived experience and training was the ‘right’ thing to be doing: writing out meal plans and enthusiastically supporting people with personal goals, including dietary restriction for weight loss. It was only when I really paid attention to the deep, visceral pain embedded in people’s experiences with food, eating and their bodies, really listened, that I had a minor #existentialcrisis and realised, in fact, not only was I probably not helping people, I could possibly be harming them. Cue the ‘huh?’ emoji, a dreadful shame spiral, and more than a few WTFs. In Vitamin A to Z, we step through some of the most important foundational concepts which can support us to identify where we’re getting stuck, and steps we can take to get unstuck and move into courageous living, as we and are bodies are at any one point in time. This is a no-BS read; there’s nothing magical or quick-fix-y here, just real talk and regular opportunities to pause, reflect and more deeply understand how we might take steps to extricate ourselves from diet culture in ways which feel personally meaningful. Vitamin A to Zis publishing on 1 February 2021 and we cannot wait to share it with you! Link to blog post in bio!
