25.01.2022 I have a family history of bowel cancer and was told to have a colonoscopy when I turned 40. At 39 I developed a lump on my chest. Knowing that men also get breast cancer I decided to have it checked out and my other checks early. The lump on my breast turned out to be a silly ingrown hair. My colonoscopy showed bowel cancer.... Further tests also showed a kidney cancer. I had two separate primary cancers. About a month prior to my 40th birthday I had surgery that removed one kidney and my ascending colon. Both cancers where on the verge of breaking out but were contained. If I had waited as first planned, to well after my 40th birthday, I probably would not be alive today. I am now about to celebrate my 53rd birthday. ~ Steven Steven shares his person story to help launch our annual Decembeard campaign and raise much-needed awareness that you’re never too young to have bowel cancer. 21.01.2022 My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer in January of 2019 after having toilet problems for a couple of months leading up to diagnosis. Men are usually too proud and somewhat scared to admit there is a problem and unfortunately the ending was not good. He became bed bound at home while our family cared for him which we are proud of every day.... Dad spent Christmas at home, and it was one I will always remember. He passed away on January 1st of 2020, nine days before he turned 51. Life is so different after losing a parent. Three kids, 27, 24 and 21 and our mum 49. We deal with it in different ways but one thing we have in common is we miss him every day. ~ Bethany Bethany shares her family’s personal story to help raise awareness, as we launch our annual Decembeard campaign. Grow a beard and raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia this November and/or December and help beat bowel cancer! Women and children are also encouraged to take part by making or faking a beard or hosting a Decembeard themed fundraiser. 19.01.2022 "My story is not that different to many others. In 2014 there were changes in how my body was working and although not drastic they were persistent. The statistic is that one in eleven men will face this in their lifetime. It is for this reason that I want to raise awareness of the issue and to raise some money to help research - to develop better treatments and to hopefully beat it." ~ Keith http://bit.ly/2Em0n2t... #DecembeardAU #BowelCancerAustralia @BowelCancerAustralia

19.01.2022 "I never thought this would happen to me - cancer at age 43 Having been diagnosed with a bad bout of food poisoning on October 24, 2019, I began to vomit daily and have ongoing diarrhoea. I went on and off to the GP for several weeks, I then began to lose my appetite, weight and towards the end was overwhelmed with severe stomach cramping. Finally, my normal GP (who I hadn’t been able to get into) said 'I don’t like this let’s get some tests'." ~ Chris http://bit.ly/2LFxFhi... #DecembeardAU #BowelCancerAustralia

19.01.2022 "In May 2019, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer at the age of 35. After having a colonoscopy to investigate some bleeding and abdominal pain, a tumour was found in my rectum. I was sent for scans that afternoon, and they showed that it had already spread to my liver. I want to raise money and awareness for Bowel Cancer Australia so that they can continue to support those in need, and to fund research into bowel cancer." ~ Dean http://bit.ly/36ywGrh... #DecembeardAU #BowelCancerAustralia

12.01.2022 "My husband Ian was diagnosed with advanced Stage D cancer at age 32. He was officially diagnosed in Feb of 2018 (when our daughter was 18 months old), after over 18 months of debilitating pain, seeing doctors and specialists who all kept dismissing him telling him nothing was wrong with him, including his regular GP, who knew him better than the rest, as he’d been going to this GP all his life." ~ Naomi http://bit.ly/2EhRUxp... #DecembeardAU #BowelCancerAustralia

01.01.2022 It was the summer of 2009 and was living with the love of my life. She was having some stomach pains. The doctors kept telling her it was just constipation, but sent her for a scan just in case, most likely diverticulitis. Two days later we were told its Stage 4 bowel cancer. Not a happy New Years for her at age 29. She fought so bravely but passed away at 32. I’m bad at growing facial hair but I participate each year in a hope that one day stories like mine will be history.... ~ Nathan We’re incredibly lucky to have had Nathan support every single year, since Decembeard Australia began seven years ago. It is not too late to sign up to grow a beard and help us beat bowel cancer.
