18.01.2022 To the DBFLC community, tomorrow we will be having our Community BBQ, we have requested that Young people enrolled at DBFLC contact the school to inform us if family wishes to come to our BBQ tomorrow. We are gathering in the hall first with from 9.30 am for the Ubuntu awards plus boomerangs thanks to Angie and her assistants for organising that. We will be showing our end of term video, handing out the newsletter and and there may be small Easter eggs to say thank you, i...nvolved as well. Easter is a time of gratitude and forgiveness and we wish to thank our community for working with us. There will be a BBQ lunch after the ceremonies are finished. Please see the information below. If you have some queries please see the website or ask at the DBFLC office if you need assistance.... www.humanservices.gov.au The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) commenced on 1 January 2014 and provides access to benefits for basic dental services to around 3 million children aged 2-17 years. The total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,000 per child over a two calendar year period. The CDBS has a means test, which requires receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) or a relevant Australian Government payment. The CDBS provides individual benefits for a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital. 11.01.2022 12th October 2015 Dear Young People/Parents/Caregivers, Welcome back to Term 4. Flexi life never stops and over the holidays Dan G accompanied David, Casey F and Darwin on the South Passage Tallship for a 4 day sailing adventure from Manly to Hervey Bay. The life skills learnt and sense of community gained was invaluable. Thanks Dan for helping our YP have such a great week. Thanks to Sam for making sure our crew got home safely from Hervey Bay. ... Words cannot express how amazing an opportunity it was to attend the first Youth + YP Forum in Alice Springs. We were humbled by the local elders welcome and being in community and sharing their stories. 5 YP Sam, Kieran, Taylah, Rhyannah and Shayann took up the challenge and went on the journey of a life time. These YP did themselves, their families and our community very proud. I would like to thank Mel for giving up her family time to join us on this cultural immersion. All of these YP from both opportunities will have lasting memories from these rich experiences. On the 19th/20th October YP in Year 11 have been invited to take up the opportunity to attend a two day leadership camp. Lots of fun activities involved including high ropes, canoeing, Information is out now and YP need to return forms ASAP. I would like to welcome Mark Vernon (Youth Worker) onto our team for Term 4. Mark comes with a wealth of experience working with YP in a variety of situations in both Scotland and New Zealand. He is passionate about YP reaching their potential and has been a Youth Worker for 17 years. A new program started today with Oz Harvest- they are doing a cooking, life skills course for the rest of Term 4, every Monday in our community. Thank you OZ Harvest for being such a wonderful supporter of DBFLC. Dont forget food care packages are still available every Monday. If your YP is a senior you will be receiving information about a Senior Jumper to order as a keepsake of their time with us. In addition we are booking our formal venue tomorrow and will be touch regarding costs for this special celebration. Term 4 is very short, please encourage your YP to come to flexi every day. There's information for parents and service providers assisting people to transition.... 09.01.2022 Hi all, on Friday afternoon one of our neighbours contacted the office and told us how some DBFLC young people were walking past her house and used her bin to get rid of some rubbish, she was happy for them to use her bins because "she had always had been impressed by the young people from DBFLC and had always had had a an excellent impression of our school from the young people she had met." Well done all, we are a community and we live in a larger community. Our nighbour s...howed appreciation of how we all try to live withing the principles. TAFE Queenslands new Scholarships program is creating oppor...tunities for students to access vocational education and training across Queensland. $500,000 worth of scholarships will be given out over three years across TAFE Queensland. There will be a career fair after the presentations where you can ask TAFE staff questions about programs. The focus of the evening will be on pathways for young people that want an apprenticeship or traineeship, those who have barriers to employment and learning through low levels of literac...y and/or numeracy, and those that dont yet know what they want to do. 06.01.2022 26 April 2016 It is great to see so many of our YP and their families engaging so well in our community. Term 2 is full of many amazing opportunities for our YP to challenge and engage in their leaning. We hope each YP decides to continue to cross the line of opportunity and go outside of their comfort zone. It is important for YP to remember that not everything in life is what we want to do, but by taking on a challenge we grow as a person. You may have heard about our... Gotcha awards - this term we are celebrating when YP are really demonstrating the principles (Honesty, Respect, Participation and being Safe and Legal) in our community. At the end of each day staff shout out to YP who have demonstrated these principles and had a positive influence on our community. It is lovely to see how much our YP love being caught doing the right thing and just how many YP are receiving Gotcha awards. Keep up this amazing work. This term we would like to trial an opportunity for Parents to gather as a community. We would like to offer the first of these gatherings on Friday 13th May. We will meet at the front gate at 10 am and we would love to offer you a cup of tea/biscuit and the opportunity to talk to other parents in our community. The meeting will conclude at 11am. It is open space so whoever turns up is most welcome, the aim is for parents to have an opportunity to support each other in our community. If your son/daughter is in Year 7 or Year 9 Naplan testing is coming up you will receive a letter detailing dates. If you feel your YP should not be doing this testing there is a form attached that we do need you to fill out and return ASAP please.
