25.01.2022 The amount you need may surprise you.

24.01.2022 Now is not the time to panic-sell. "If you did that at the bottom of the GFC, which is when most people capitulated, they missed out on essentially a tripling of prices in the market after the GFC," Sure, its been a rollercoaster week in markets, with sharp falls due to the impact of the coronavirus on the economy and an oil price war.... Its truly gut-wrenching to see thousands wiped off your investments or your super. But is now the time to sell or are there actually some opportunities to buy? Hear it from the professionals The Fund Manager - Roger Montgomery from Montgomery Investment Management The Investment Strategist - Fiona Clark from Merricks Capital. The Independent Financial Adviser - Financial adviser Kate McCallum https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-fears-stock-/12046096

19.01.2022 In times of uncertainty, Its all about TIME IN THE MARKET! Not TIMING THE MARKET! Ahhh what does that mean??? With trade talks between the US and China causing market volatility I thought it would be best to share some insights into the fundamentals of investing! In times of uncertainty our natural reaction is to protect what we have, when it comes to your investments this may mean converting to cash or defensive assets when markets start to fall.... The goal being to buy back in when the market starts to recover. The only problem with that is, no one really knows when that will be! This is essentially called trying to Time the market. The problem with this strategy is that if you miss the best days in an investment period i.e. the days that the share market rises the most, you can significantly reduce your return. As the image suggests A hypothetical investment of $1,000 in the S&P 500 made in 2009 would have grown to $2,775 by the end of 2018. But if an investor missed the 30 best trading days during that period, he or she would have ended up with just $918 less than the initial investment. Therefore the point being is we do not know when the best 30 days are going to fall over a 10 year period. In fact no one knows, therefore the safest way to ensure you dont miss the bounce back from when the market drops is to STAY INVESTED.

07.01.2022 During times of volatility its important to not react due to fear or greed and stay the course. There are often reasons to sell out of shares. The chart below shows a few different reasons over the last 11 years such as the Ebola outbreak or Brexit. The important message to hold onto is that over time the market has recovered and allows you to earn strong long-term returns. Since the global financial crisis, even after the start to this year, investors have more than doubled their money. If you panicked and went to cash however, assuming a starting point of $10,000, you would have only earned $3,650 over the last 11 years versus a potential $15,970 in Australian shares.
