25.01.2022 #rainbowbooks #homeeditstyle While I have never organised a clients books based on colour, I felt I needed to give this style of organising a try as my books are very much on display in my home. And I think I love it!... What do you want think??

24.01.2022 #ruok As part of my capacity as a mental health first aider and as a caring human Im asking R U Ok? Its RUOK day. But any day is a good day to check in and assess your #mentalhealth Its been a stressful year between bushfires, COVID and just regular life. It can feel easier just to soldier on and forget to check in with ourselves or each other. ... Its ok to not be ok. The first step is to ask for help. Be brave like my clients who call me and ask for help. Its not a sign of weakness but rather a sign of strength, insight, love and care. So if you need someone safe to talk to, Im here. Or reach to one of the amazing mental health support networks like @beyondblueofficial @blackdoginst or your GP.

23.01.2022 #adhdahamoment First session today with a new client who has recently been diagnosed with #adhd We discussed some strategies, decluttered the playroom and I have her some homework suggestions on how to keep on track throughout the day. ... We talked #time Did you know that for most people with adhd they struggle with measuring time?? Here are some challenges: they find it hard to estimate how long a task will take they find it hard to know how much time has passed whilst working on a task they find it hard to stay on task for a set time Here’s a trick to try. Use a analogue clock or timer. I like using the Time Tamer app. The physical viewing of time passing with the hands going around or the time wedge getting smaller helps you to see time. Did this just give you an aha moment like it did my client today? What strategies have you tried to keep you on track with time?? #adhdorganisation #adhdcoach #professionalorganiser #divaeffect #organisationwithadhd #adhdmum #adhdwomen #strategiesnotstigma

23.01.2022 And two minutes later. Stop procrastinating. If you see it and you have a minute, do it. ... You will feel better for it. :)

22.01.2022 #teenagers I have 3 so I was asked by @newideamagazine for some ideas on how to keep your teenagers room tidy. Here is the article. ... As with all organising goals, my biggest advice is #realisticexpectations Our kids have a lot going on and to expect them to keep a Pinterest worthy all the time isn’t reasonable. But to expect it to be nice once a week in exchange for phone privileges, that is reasonable. Secondly, listen to your teens and what they like. For example, they probably hate folding their clothes so let them hang as much as possible. They need to quick solutions so find them cute containers or hooks so they can stash their stuff, fast. Most of all #pickyourbattles #teenbedroom #tidyteens #divaeffect #declutteringtheworldonedraweratatime

21.01.2022 Love this. I so often find the things I Declutter from clients houses are either: plastic, overpriced ... or cheap and nasty Uni-tools (ie can only do one job) Broken promises Which if avoided could have had cheap and cheerful solutions like this #ecohack See more

21.01.2022 Working with clients using NDIS funding can be challenging There are several stakeholders The budget can be tight The clutter is often extreme... And the client has more complex issues than most But the team at Decluttering Diva loves it!!! And we love hearing from our clients (and their families) giving us positive feedback. #chronicdisorganisationspecialist #hoardingspecialist #professionalorganisersydney #ndisserviceprovider #progressnotperfection #divaeffect #ndis

21.01.2022 Excited to meet my new client today and help free her from the stigma and isolation her adhd symptoms have created. Its all about understanding how your brain processes things (or doesnt) and making systems work for you. Not your friend, your mum or how the magazines do it. #adhdorganiser

21.01.2022 #resetsunday What could you do NOW to help make your morning run smoother?? Heres a couple of ideas... check your calendar to see what the day has ahead make your lunch put on a load of laundry clear the sink have a pray/meditate Even doing just one of these will help you to feel prepared for tomorrow. And none of these tasks will take very long, so help tomorrow you by being a proactive today you. #divaeffect #professionalorganisertips #dontprocrastinate

21.01.2022 #organisinghack Went to my brother and SILs new place over the weekend and spotted this simple hack in the kitchen. No room for a caddy on the bench??... Add some some stick on hooks and hang your cleaning tools to keep your space organised and clutter free. #kitchenorganisation #cleaninghack #divaeffect

20.01.2022 A new game we play at our house Its not that we think #adhd as a joke but rather we try to make light of the quirks that adhd brings to our house - along with finger tapping, air guitar playing, post it reminders as well as more serious but sometimes still humorous symptoms like emotional regulation issues, consistent memory issues and lack of time management. I mean we could get cranky when someone says Im just going to go do this for 20mins and then disappears for hour...s or we could kindly help with strategies like timers and gentle reminders. Once you know what it is its easier to manage. #adhdorganiser #adhdcoach #professionalorganiser #chronicdisorganisation #familymanagement

20.01.2022 Totally!! Take it just a day at a time. Have a reasonable expectation of what you can do with your time (take a couple of things off your to-do list) Have a plan - whats for dinner? What has to be done? What can wait? Make sure you include some self care too. ... Lets do it

20.01.2022 #beautifulday I like it when I get a good trip to work and can catch a couple of minutes to myself before the day gets away from me. ... Just to stop and be #mindful Think of some things to be #grateful for Check the calendar and think ahead and plan my week a little - anything special/ unusual I need to be prepared for? Is there a space to lock in a walk with friend or someone for dinner? Being #thoughtful Part of being organised is being thoughtful of your day. Getting organised is not a one off event, it is a constant training game. It takes practise to think ahead, plan, make lists and execute. And it takes time. So make sure you fit in time to do the work to be organised, to be thoughtful of your schedule.

20.01.2022 It’s coming up to Christmas and at this time more than ever it’s great to think of how we can help others, to think of our community. As you all know my motto is changing the world one drawer at a time. It’s a statement to remind myself and my clients that we can all make small changes that with time can have a big impact. I would love it to check out my latest article for E-Bubble Life where I share some simple ideas on how through decluttering you could help those aroun...d you. #onemanstrashisanothermanstreasure #changingtheworldonedraweratatime See more

19.01.2022 #workfromhomezoom Sound familiar?? If you have struggled with your make-do covid office for the last nine months, use the Christmas break to make it work for you. ... I’ve heard that many companies are sticking with the work from home vibe permanently. Will you continue to work from home? How have you managed to hide the clutter for those dreaded zoom calls?

17.01.2022 It’s hot in Sydney today not the best for working in a storage unit but I did... and I filled my car so it was worth the sweat. It’s hot in Sydney today not the best for working in a storage unit but I did... and I filled my car so it was worth the sweat.

17.01.2022 Mums do you feel me??? Training can be easier when you have systems. Systems is just a fancy word for house habits (Ive made that up but it works) ... Would you like some help to create some house habits that could help your whole family be accountable and part of the process?? Have a session or two. Cause why should it always be Mums job??

17.01.2022 Dr. Morein-Zamir says a clue to answering these questions may come from what is already known about hoarding: that those who hoard have problems with inattention, planning, and organizing. These are also core symptoms of ADHD. So its not always that you CANT or wont let things go, but rather that the #adhd brain challenges you on knowing how to process your stuff to then know how to keep it manageable.

16.01.2022 Just got home from a weekend away camping and thought this post was timely (as I was unpacking ) No but seriously a good reminder to be in the now and think forward to the future. We have all made mistakes in the past - thoughtless purchases, insensitive comments, unproductive effort, and so much more but ALL these choices have molded us into who we are today. Wiser, more mindful and hopefully better than before. And if not, there is always tomorrow. So heres to a fresh start tomorrow and a new week ahead to make smarter choices.

15.01.2022 Wowsers where has this term gone?!? Only 3 weeks left till the spring break. So if you were planning on some decluttering before the kids are underfoot again, give us a call... Here the top 3 projects we have found common around this time of year... decluttering the playroom/ toys so youre one step ahead of Santa. Or maybe you still need to get your tax in and need some help in the paperwork department Decluttering the spare room in preparation for guests over Christmas period (the borders will open, I believe it!) Whatever your clutter struggle, the Decluttering Diva team can help you one drawer/shelf/ box at a time

15.01.2022 DD SPRING DECLUTTER CHALLENGE - Part 3 Our bathroom cupboards hide so much... prescriptions, first aid, cosmetics, hair care and accessories, cleaning products and more. So today the task is to edit. ... Retire the expired medications and safely dispose of them at your local chemist. Put the boxes in your recycle bin though to reduce bulk. Purge your old makeup and facial products. Did you know that its recommended that products like mascara should be disposed of after 6 months due to bacteria buildup? If youre not sure there is usually a symbol along with a number of months. and while we are at it lets edit the dust, toothpaste splatter and hair thats accumulate too See more

14.01.2022 You may be thinking how does doing something now have any impact on tomorrow? 5 minutes here, 5 minutes there? Whats the difference? The difference is stress. When we have time, have a plan, are doing with intentional action not out of reaction, we are more efficient. (Look Im no scientist but its whats Ive seen)... So if you can calmly make the lunches (and while your at it you might as well make the weeks worth as it really isnt much more time!) you can then feel calmer and more in control. I find when I get my kids to pack their bags the night before its better. Not only is the job done but if they have forgotten or need something there is time to fix the issue (like wash last weeks lunch box or complete that homework sheet - you know what Im talking about parents) Its about being in control and having a plan rather than rushing around, reacting and expelling more energy and angst. So if you can try doing a task or two to save you some stress in the morning - is your outfit ready, lunch prepared or maybe pack your bag. Those thoughtful efforts will have a compounding effect throughout your day and who doesnt need that! #professionalorganisertips #divaeffect #alittleorganisinggoesalongway #plantosucceed

14.01.2022 DD SPRING DECLUTTER CHALLENGE - Part 4 As the glorious weather of spring continues its a perfect time to #keeptheknitsthatfit Winter has come and gone so its fresh in your mind what you actually wore in that season. ... So lets declutter any knits, hoodies, cardigans, jumpers or sweatshirts and the like that dont fit, flatter or feel great when you wear them. While youre at it spend a little time de-piling your knits so they are in great nick for next year. Maybe even give them some love with a nourishing wool wash or good airing in the sun before they are stored away till the cooler weather returns. #professionalorganisertips #niceknits #springdeclutter #professionalorganisersydney #divaeffect

12.01.2022 #christmasparty Last night was our staff Christmas party - a lovely night welcoming in some new additions to the team, reflecting on the year that was and planning the year ahead. Good food, conversation and a couple of games including the classic how do you organise your lollies game. ... We feel so privileged to come into your homes, be trusted to help you achieve your goals.

12.01.2022 This is my tote. I bring it to every session. Its like my #marypoppins bag full of bits and bobs to help me do my job better. In my car I have a toolbox too - with extra supplies that are not needed as often. ... I love that as I grown in my experience so has the tools I use (Ive also decluttered some that just didnt get used) My job is to be prepared and make your life easier. #divaeffect #toolsofthetrade #professionalorganisersydney #declutteringdiva

11.01.2022 Woah its Monday again AND its November -where is this year going? I have to confess between living in and project managing my home renovation, working with my DD clients, I'm not finding much time for mindfulness. Now you may think that mindfulness just sounds like fluff but I now that when I'm being more conscious I feel more in control but also relaxed.... Last night was the first night in weeks that we as a family did our meal plan (was a challenge when you only had a microwave and electric frypan and constant builders!) and I feel so much calmer starting my week. I know the next 7 weeks or so leading up to Christmas may have similar feelings for you so I encourage you to find just one small way to feel mindful each day - brain dump a to-do list (kind of like journaling), meditate, be "present" while you do a task like making dinner or folding laundry - I find breathing or praying helps me , get some exercise in, or do a quick clean up of the kitchen each night so your benchtops are clear and you feel great to start each day. Whatever you do, remember #progressnotperfection.

11.01.2022 I hope my clients feel this too.

11.01.2022 So great to work with a new client today who had the winning bid on a DD Gift voucher, not once but twice. So not only is the client happy but St Ives PS and NSM Smiles 2 U benefited too. Now Im home and trying to keep warm whilst doing some more professional development through Institute for Challenging Disorganization.

10.01.2022 Its bring hubby to work day today!! Sometimes you just need some brawn and expert trailer driving skills (especial helpful with this client who has 1km long dirt driveway.

09.01.2022 Completed my Mental Health First Aid course today... And already putting it into practise with a great walk after dinner tonight. #selfcare is essential for good mental health. ... Whats your favorite way to self care??

08.01.2022 The weather is just perfect today and its inspired to host a spring declutter challenge starting this Sunday. A week of daily Declutter directives from the Diva. Small, achievable changes that will help you and your home feel refreshed and refocused. ... Whos in??? #dailydeclutter #divaeffect #spring

08.01.2022 There are no rules. There are no normal ways to organise or declutter. If you need to go through the box twice,... If you need to check the bag of donations a couple of times, If you need to tell your story about where, when and what happened when this item happened... Whatever you need we at Decluttering Diva support you to declutter your way. We organise the space to work for you, not to make us happy or look pretty. So if you need to run the dishwasher twice to get the job done, we get it.

08.01.2022 So good @organize365 keeping it real and practice as usual...

07.01.2022 Here are some of the cool vintage finds during today’s #estatecleanout Some retro patterns and craft supplies will go to @achievesewingbasket A stack more books to @lifelineaustralia ... And plenty of items put aside to be sent to auction @bargainhuntauctions And some treasures found including some hand embroidered placemats, vintage Christmas tea towels and some photos to be kept by client. It’s not so much about the stuff but rather being with the client today as they processed all the emotions of sifting through their parent’s belongings. #divaeffect #professionalorganisersydney #

07.01.2022 This is so funny - Im no influencer and Im pretty sure my family all give a good eye roll to what I do and say on this page. Im their mum/wife - and our house is far from perfect. And thats why Im great at my job - I live in a real house with imperfect people, imperfect storage and have a life!

06.01.2022 Puppy cuddles (angus is a American staffy puppy) is a great way to end two busy work days. Having this giant literally forces you to stop, settle and just be... What relaxes you after a hard days work?

06.01.2022 #motivation I love this client - she regularly books in council cleanup as a motivator. Just the fact that a date is in the calendar gets her to let go. It’s spurs her to make change. ... We’ve been going through her sheds out the back which unfortunately have been affected by mice (but it helps to make some quicker decisions) and clearing out things that have been in storage for years. For some #chronicdisorganisation clients they are only motivated to make big changes when forced to have a visit from a smoke detector inspector or landlord. Usually it’s quite traumatic. At Decluttering Diva we aim to reduce the anxiety and help you feel in control as you declutter. Some days it’s slow and steady while others are like yesterday’s client, fast and furious. Our job is help support you to reach YOUR goals, not ours. Our job is to be the physical and emotional muscle that you may be lacking. So wherever you are and whatever your motivation to declutter Decluttering Diva is here to help. #professionalorganiser #chronicdisorganisationspecialist #hoardingspecialist #adhdspecialist #cleanup #councilcleanup

06.01.2022 When you match your client! #professionalorganisersydney

06.01.2022 And so it begins!!!! I’m so excited to be taking on the challenge of becoming a CPO-CD (certified PO in chronic disorganisation) Once done I’ll be the first in NSW and one of only a handful in Australia. ... Some may think I’m a little crazy taking this on while my middle child completes their HSC but I think it will actually be bonding to go through the study challenge together. Kind of like having me in your home to declutter together, we always complete more, stay on task and see things with more positivity than when your work alone. And speaking of teamwork.... the DD Team has grown too!!! Carolynne and Jane joined recently and have jumped right in and have been busy. And next year, Kelsey and (another) Jane will be added to the schedule. I’ll get a photo of most of them at our staff Xmas party this Saturday and introduce them soon. Anyway better get some coffee in and get myself ready for another crazy day working with my beautiful clients. #chronicdisorganisationspecialist #adhdspecialist #hoardingspecialist #declutteringdiva #teamwork #professionaldevelopment #manyhandsmakelightwork

05.01.2022 We sleep on average for a third of our day - that means our bedding is pretty important - so lets give our linen closets a bit of the #divaeffect. Put your trusty timer on for 15 mins and have a go. You may only get one type of linen done and thats ok. Personally we have only 2-3 sheet sets & doona sets per bed. In my experience I have found that is plenty (and all the room I can afford)... While we are here - lets see if we can have a rethink about how your bed linen is stored. Could you store it in each room? Its easy to access, keeps the different sizes seperated and could free up your central storage area for other things that need to be accessed like board games, platters or bulk food.

05.01.2022 DD SPRING DECLUTTER CHALLENGE - PART 1 Our laundries are the little engines that could in our homes. They whirl with energy regularly but are often a neglected space as we try to avoid being in them as much as possible. They often become a space where :... - ransom miscellaneous things get dumped cause we have no idea where else to put them. - lost socks and clothes to iron or mended get left.. at the bottom of a basket. - where random linen, bags and cleaning supplies pile up. Sound familiar? Now I cant make magic happen and give you the laundry of your dreams (oh for bench space and a hanging rack!) but we can give it a little #divaeffect Lets put on a timer just for 15 minutes and see how much we can get done. put the rubbish in a bag, collect all the random clothes and put in a basket for sorting - what needs to be rehomed, donated, mended, thrown etc edit the cleaning supplies and put away in organised manner what things are stored here that havent been used in a while? Do we need them still? (I have a Childs booster seat, a 3 tiered tray thing and my husbands swag - I think they can move on to new homes now!) give everything a wipe down, vacuum, mop and a bit of love. If your laundry is large or quite cluttered you may need a bit more time and thats ok. Just do 15 minutes worth to keep yourself fresh and focused on the task. Its all about remembering the PURPOSE of the space and editing what doesnt make the task of doing the laundry, storing some supplies, or whatever else our laundry rooms do for our families. And since its a shared space lets make it easier for others and label what needs to be labelled and create zones of like items together so things are easy to find and put away. BONUS TIP: Teach your kids to do this laundry this week. It may seem like more effort but in the long run it really pays off. It teaches them not only the skill of doing their laundry but also responsibility, self respect and time management. #declutteringdiva #springdeclutter

02.01.2022 I just pinch myself when I think about how this little business has grown and developed since its inception 7 years ago today. I would have never believed that Id be sharing my insight on platforms like the Today Show or The Project, running workshops, having staff and getting to work full time doing what I love. I still feel honored to be invited into your homes to hear the stories and help find your treasures. ... Thank you all for your support and encouragement- it has definitely spurred me on. I will break my diet today to have some champagne to celebrate and am having a little camping weekend away to reset and replenish. Thank you

01.01.2022 CONFESSION TIME This is my side table. And just like everyone elses space clutter magically finds itself here. ... And now is the time for me to clear it. Life happens, people (incl me!) dont always put things away and even if it was decluttered dust still happens. So dont be too hard on yourselves when it happens instead take a minute or two and fix it.

01.01.2022 Want to know why it’s been a bit quiet on the page? These are just the morning shifts this week!! We don’t usually find the time during the job to take any pictures to share with you (and if you had us in your home you know how fast the time flies when you’re in the decluttering zone)... And at the end of the day once I put my workboots away I’m turning off my DD brain for a few hours. But rest assured I have some great #christmasdeclutter tricks up my sleeve to share with you soon. So happy hump day and hello from us all.

01.01.2022 These photos of my clients clothes being hung and folded may not look like much but it signifies how much progress she has made in last few months. When I first walked in this clients home the floor was literally a foot deep (minimum) with stuff from the front door, all through the lounge, down the hall and to the bedrooms. We have worked hard to sort through from paperwork, books, clothing & rubbish. I initially just boxed the clothing that was kept to keep it safe and off... the floor. I was able to source a free clothes rack and cheap dresser for this client so that the first time in god knows how long she could have her clothes folded and hung rather than all over the floors, furniture or in bags. This is just one story of the many victories we shared with our Decluttering Diva clients this week.
