23.01.2022 As we are in the final school term, it’s the time to assess a student’s reading progression. Our SPARKLE Assessment Kit allows you to assess all aspects of reading such as fluency, comprehension and decoding ability. This will ensure you can ascertain whether a child needs to move up to the next level or may need some further intervention at the level they’re currently on.

22.01.2022 The Primary Reading Pledge needs your support! It is crucial that schools and teachers are provided with the support, training and resources they need to ensure that all students learn to read. Please add your name to the list of people who support an evidence-based action plan to get all children reading by the end of primary school. 22.01.2022 Here are some fun strategies to help your students learn to blend sounds together. #theliteracycollective

20.01.2022 Teaching the difference between sounds such ‘ai’ or ‘ay’ can be confusing for children learning to read. If you're not sure what sounds the graphemes represent in our books, click on the 'hear the sounds' tab on the library page of our apps. This audio function allows children to hear the sounds correctly. If you haven’t downloaded our apps, check out the App Store or Google Play as they are $5.99!

20.01.2022 As we turn the final page on 2020, we are grateful to have shared your reading journey and to have helped children of all levels increase their literacy skills.

13.01.2022 What is blending? Blending is the skill that helps us read, especially when we come across words we’re unfamiliar with. Blending involves pushing together the sounds of the letters in the word in order to create the whole word. For example, if a child is trying to read the word ‘dish’, they will isolate each of the letter sounds. When the sounds are said in sequence, the word ‘dish’ is spoken. Blending requires a lot of practice. The key is to ALWAYS incorporate blending activities when teaching letter sounds. For example, when these 6 letter sounds are taught, you can begin teaching children to blend words such as ‘sat’, ‘tap’ and ‘tin.

13.01.2022 Remember our Level 7/8 app is available for download on the App Store. 13.01.2022 Children learn to read through decoding words. Decoding is knowing the letters, or groups of letters that represent the sounds that we can hear. The more sounds we can hear - and the more sounds a child can recognise - the more words they are able to read. That’s why phonics and decoding skills are imperative.

12.01.2022 We incorporate Phonemic awareness into our Level 1 pre-reading activities and throughout our interactive apps. TLC explain why it’s so important in a child’s development.

11.01.2022 Our Complete Sets are perfect to ensure you have all levelled resources available for children who may be at different phases in their reading journey. In this set, you receive all levels and 1 copy of each level 1-8 title. Our Complete Sets are available on our website here https://www.decodablereadersaustralia.com.au//complete-in/ . .... . #decodablereadersaustralia #teachingresources #readingresources #decoding #decodablebooks #phonemicawareness See more

10.01.2022 Our readers introduce children to some sight words before they have the required decoding knowledge. For example, Level 1 Book 10, contains the words ‘the’ ‘and’ and ‘no’. These words need to be introduced, explained and decoded for children prior to reading the book. Repeated exposure using these strategies will assist them in being able to develop automatic recall of the words. If a child does not know the words within the text then they should have the word decoded and read for them. The goal is for children to see every word as a sight word.

10.01.2022 Shared reading with big books allows you to model reading skills and strategies. It’s a great resource for guided reading and sharing and encourages discussions with the group. Have you tried our big books? Check them out here https://www.decodablereadersaustralia.com.au/cat/big-books/
