24.01.2022 Hi, just to let everyone know the Decoder Wiz website ‘Price List’ is not available for a while as the Online Store is being developed. Anyone who wants prices on decoders etc., please send an E-Mail to [email protected] and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Rick.
20.01.2022 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone who has supported Decoder Wiz over the past year and supported this Facebook page. Next year I will have more time to add general and technical information for everyone interested in digital model railways as Decoder Wiz transitions away from installations to recording sounds of various N.S.W. locomotives. My Ad in the Australian Model Railway Magazine informs people what Decoder Wiz is doing. Rick.

17.01.2022 Hi, I know I have been sharing a few videos lately, so here is another one for those of you who use Soundtraxx Tsunami 2 Steam sound decoders. This video gives you a deeper understanding on how the real steam locomotive works and how you can program your decoder to suit the way you run your loco. Just click on the photo. Rick.
16.01.2022 Hi, I apologise for posting two descriptions of the video and also I wanted to add to the post regarding the BATTERY in the loco, for those who are interested, it was purchased from Remote Control Systems - https://www.rcs-rc.com/pages/home - in Casino, NSW and I found them to very good to deal with. The other websites:- USA Trains - http://www.usatrains.com/, CVP Products - http://www.cvpusa.com/index.php, Phoenix Sound Systems - http://www.phoenixsound.com/index.html. Rick.
14.01.2022 Yes I know I Haven’t been doing much lately, I have been very busy particularly with the change of direction of Decoder Wiz towards recording sounds of Australian locomotives. But here is some information about Southern Rail models 10 Class, if you have one of these models and you find it doesn't run through points smoothly try soldering wires to the brass pickups on the leading & trailing pony trucks which already have brass wipers installed at the factory. Have a look at the photos of one I completed but you must be very good at soldering otherwise, without puling everything apart, you will melt the plastic if you hold the iron too long on your soldering point. Rick.
13.01.2022 Hi, just to let everyone know that the 'Price List' & 'Installation Charges' pages are available on the website for those interested while the Online Store is being setup. Rick.
12.01.2022 Hi, this video is not one of my sound installation jobs, it’s just to show how well these Broadway Limited Imports diesel locos perform straight out of the box all you have to do is adjust a few CVs to make them start & stop a little more realistically etc. I am Not pushing the brand, it’s one of the very few in ‘N’ Scale that have an abundance of sounds and run smoothly that caught my attention. As I have said in the video these are very good value for the money if you like modelling West Australian iron ore region or general American. The video is a little rough in places but I hope you enjoy it. Rick.
11.01.2022 DCC BUS SETUP. Hi, this is for everyone who uses DCC, if you are using a bus on your layout and its more than 10 Metres long then you should install this simple setup at each end of your bus. The idea is, this setup will stop Voltage Spikes on the bus which can interfere with or even damage the decoder you are using on your layout. This setup will also stop the distortion of the DCC Waveform, when the Waveform is running smoothly so is your decoder. In the attached photo you can see the components you need (You can buy these from any electronics store) and solder the components together as shown in the photo. Rick.
10.01.2022 Hi, I have finally got to do another video but I apologise for the poor focusing of the model & the state of my test track. It’s a customer’s Berg’s Brass Models NSWGR 35 Class 4-6-0 steam locomotive and unpainted. I sent the model back to it’s owner in Brisbane without first checking the video. The sound decoder is a QS Industries (QSI) Titan U, installed in the Tender with a 13mm x 18mm x 12mm 8 Ohm cube speaker. I thought I would show this video as not many use the QS Industries sound decoders. I hope you like the sounds. Rick.

09.01.2022 Hi, another preview this time of the Hornby Class 43 HST power car fitted with the Hornby TTS sound decoder with the ‘Valenta engine’ sound file. The full video of this HST running on a layout is coming soon to the Decoder Wiz website and You Tube and will show the installation and the Speaker used. I hope you enjoy the sounds this decoder puts out, Rick.
06.01.2022 I did have a couple of enquiries regarding this PC board in Bachmann steam locos as the sound module is no longer available. For those who have a Bachmann loco with this type of factory installed PC board and you still want to have sound wartch this video from Soundtraxx. Rick.
05.01.2022 Hi, this is a preview of the ‘On Track Models’ second production run of the Class 82 diesel electric locomotive. There will be a full video coming soon of this model on the Decoder Wiz website and You Tube. I hope you enjoy watching it, Rick.
04.01.2022 INSTALLING SOUND INTO AN AUSCISION 73 CLASS LOCOMOTIVE WITH THE LATEST 6 PIN INTERFACE. I thought there may be some modellers wanting to add sound to their latest Auscision Re-release of the NSWGR 73 Class diesel locomotive. I have added photos to help with the installation. As with all models first remove the body from the chassis - Photo 1. I have used ESU LokSound Micro V4.0 with a 6 Pin Plug - Photo 2. As shown in Photo 3 remove the DC Banking Plug & the 2 securing scre...ws holding the PC Board and the black plastic supporting cover to the Chassis. With the back plastic supporting cover removed cut the lug off opposite the indentation in the cover as you can see in Photo 6. Photo 4 shows the decoder with both Aux wires and the blue common secured to the decoder. Photo 5 shows, if you use the ESU LokSound decoder, you will have to trim the heat shrink plastic from each end so that it will fit between the Plugs on the underside of the PC Board & the Light board assembly. Photo 7 shows the decoder fitted under the PC Board. Here you must be careful when positioning the wiring from the light board assembly. Photo 8 shows the sound decoder installed with all wiring pushed in between the PC Board & supporting cover. On the Auscision 73 Class the 6 Pin plug must be plugged in with the White, Red & Orange wires facing up otherwise all the lights at each end will come on when powered up. Now gently re-fit the Body onto the Chassis & route the Speaker wires through the opening as shown in Photo 9. With this done solder the speaker wires to the Cube Speaker being very careful not to damage the model, then using a good quality Double sided tape secure the Speaker to the Ceiling of the Cab as shown in Photo 10. As you are re-fitting the Cab to the Body, lift the Body about 5 to 10mm to allow yourself to pull excess speaker wire back from the Cab, once this is done complete the re-fitting of the Cab & Body to the Chassis. The body fits very tightly around the PC Board so be very gentle when removing & re-fitting the body to the chassis. Photos 11 & 12 show how visible the speaker is from outside the Cab. As with all installations take your time, sometimes if you rush you may make a mistake. Rick. See more
03.01.2022 Hi, I thought I would just show people the Ad I place in the Australian Model Railway magazine this is the next Ad in the February 2020 issue, its a very informative model railway magazine. Rick.
02.01.2022 Hi, just made another video this time of a G Gauge ‘USA Trains’ manufactured SD70MAC diesel, yes I do install decoders into G Gauge locos. This loco has been installed with a DCC wireless AirWire 900 motor decoder made by CVP products from Texas U.S. and a Phoenix Sound Systems (Michigan U.S.)P8 sound decoder plugged into it, the speaker is a 67mm Dia. 8 Ohm 5 Watt installed in the fuel tank. The loco is powered by an 18.5 Volt 2.6Ah Lilon rechargeable battery. The controller is a T5000 model and is another CVP product operating like a standard DCC controller being able to access 28 Functions and programming CVs remotely. Hope you enjoy the video, Rick.
01.01.2022 Yes I do like Hornby & Scalextric so what.
