24.01.2022 Inviting you to watch Abbie, Lyra and me get our groove on for an online dance project, 'Because of You', live streaming this Saturday 16th. Lyra and I are dancing at 10am, and Abbie and I at 3.30. Wooo! The project - created by Brisbane choreographer Sandi Woo - evolved during lockdown, and has been an amazing opportunity to have regular dance parties in our lounge room at a time when we were stuck in the house, and couldn't meet up with friends. Pre-purchase tickets here ($...10 per home) to receive URL link for the 20 minute performance: http://annettecarmichael.com.au/index.html See more
22.01.2022 The difference between individuals living separately and communities functioning in unison ;)
22.01.2022 Enjoying sundowners on the lawn, maintaining social connection at arms length! Recently featuring watermelon weigh-in - this whopper came in at 15.55kg, first prize to John with his guess-timate of 15.7kg. Getting to the last of these beauties, will have to start posting about something else!
21.01.2022 At the Denmark Community Garden we have a reticulated shade set up ready to propagate seedlings for the community. The future is uncertain; vegetable seedlings are a bit like hens teeth at the moment. We need your winter vegetable seeds which are also scarce. If you have some please contact Graham Mason on 0439438910 or Donald Hunt 0427446657.
21.01.2022 August action in the Commons - spring is sparking, compost bays installed (nice work Roger), root protection for orchard trees (in anticipation of imminent chickens, wooo!), and critical mass, two wheels rock

21.01.2022 CONTINUING THE BEATLES THEME..... Any other COVID suggestions based on Beatles songs? Or other songs?
21.01.2022 Gratitude to Shanon for working hard over the last few days, installing retic for vegie beds in central Commons.
20.01.2022 Much afoot in the Deco gardens - Rhona gives the lowdown on growing potato towers, Roger and Paul turn the corner on the monumental orchard frame structure, next step netting. Persimmons are ripening, and leafy greens are sprouting. All the while, doing our best to keep our distance! Co-housing in the time of Covid presents particular challenges, and we are finding ways to support each other, and minimise risk in shared spaces.

18.01.2022 How to net an orchard - an operation of epic proportions, with a cast of thousands! Well-documented with drone photography by Roger, and sustained by a hearty morning tea, thanks to the magnificent Rhona.

16.01.2022 We farewell the magnificent Noemi with a hearty pirate party, aaaargh! We will miss you, and be reminded of you whenever we wander down to the chook pen. Thanks for the innumerable hours you contributed to our community, building the chook pen and securing the orchard amongst other things, digging trenches, levelling ground. Not to mention whipping up mountains of crepes (waking up at 5am to flip 60, before the rest of us had even got out of our pjs!) and mousse au chocolat for all. You are a treasure beyond compare! Wishing you all the wonder in the world as your ship journeys on, over the horizon...
15.01.2022 Some of our pumpkin at the Denmark Food Swap this morning.
14.01.2022 Electric cars have few downsides except price. One company is looking to change that https://www.theguardian.com//electric-cars-green-recovery-
13.01.2022 Roos have been sneaking into the orchard to nibble on tender, young apple leaves. Lots of CoHos on board for operation temp-fence on a golden Tuesday afternoon, an interim measure before we fully net the orchard.
11.01.2022 Mmmmm... pizza. Bellies well satisfied thanks to Noemi, our magnificent wwoofer, Roger Dough Master DSouza, and Ian working the furnace.

08.01.2022 Welcoming our 12 newest residents four each of Barnevelder, Welsummer and Highliner hens - settling into their palatial orchard digs. And looking forward to a fruitful bounty this summer and autumn, as blossom transforms into apples, apricots and nectarines.
07.01.2022 Yes, this is effective at reducing your risk of contracting or spreading any coronavirus. Believe me - I am a real live scientist.

06.01.2022 Laying the foundations for the chook palace, well-inaugurated with hand (and foot) print action...
06.01.2022 Much industriousness this November busy bee - rotating compost in our three bay system, planting watermelon seedlings (of the rare blue variety!), creating chook zones within the orchard, and laying the groundwork for an extended run outside the orchard. Fueled by cake and crepes (thanks to Rhona and Noemi - lovely to have you back for a few weeks).
05.01.2022 Sunday busy bee, much activity in the garden - weeding, potting up strawberry runners, earth-moving, chook pen begins to take shape (alongside netted orchard), planting vegie seedlings and reeds in the swale. Magnificent morning tea gifted by Rhona - lemon syrup cake, apple berry pie (with cream, no less!), spinach and ricotta rolls. Followed by very big pumpkin weigh-in, congrats to Fran for coming the closest to 7.8kg. And thanks to Emma for wielding the machete (with thoroughly washed hands), and carving up chunks for all.
05.01.2022 Well worth waiting for! After the disappointment of harvesting unripe watermelon, we waited until the vine curlicue closest to the melon stem died back completely. Ah, perfection, sweet and delicious! Mmmm
04.01.2022 Much action afoot at our July busy bee. Into the woods at the top of Wattle Way to gather pine needles for the strawb-canoe, weeding the veg beds, laying a crushed limestone path to the chook house and attaching guttering, giving the CH fridge a good scrub, digging in a new spot for the Gedye compost bin, securing the orchard net, and feasting as per usual (thanks to Rho and Veronica for a fine spread).
04.01.2022 Winter sun streamed down on our June Busy Bee. Last of the pumpkin harvest (stockpiled now for months to come!). And we pulled up the tomato vines, which had been delivering daily handfuls of ripe tommies, and pickled the greenies.
02.01.2022 Flashback to a not so distant past - shared meal with wwoofing family Jay and Christie, and their two gorgeous kids, a month or so ago. Celebrating sandplay, watermelon feasts and moonrise. Looking forward to sharing more of this when we emerge on the other side! Although amidst it all, the moon still rises, the watermelon continue to swell sweetly, and the sand is there for playing in (just not in company!).
