07.01.2022 CBD and BIOAVAILABILITY What is bioavailability? It is the rate and extent that a substance like CBD, enters the bloodstream, where it networks with other bodily systems.... Taking CBD with food or shortly after food, can increase the bioavailability of CBD, thus higher therapeutic output. If CBD is taken on an empty stomach, our liver enzymes (CYP450) act on the cannabinoids, metabolising the compounds and breaking them apart into 100+ different metabolites, and most are not actually then used by the body. Obviously then, the bioavailability is reduced. On a fuller stomach, especially with foods containing the good fats like eggs, avocado, fish, nuts & olive oil (as they contain medium chain triglycerides), these foods limit any impact of CBD dispersing so extensively and are used in greater length by the body and for what the body needs them for.
