25.01.2022 When choosing a Mental Health Service, there are some things you should consider. A Government funded Mental Health Plan prescribed by a GP via Medicare is a very affordable option however this is then recorded against your name which can be an issue for: - Life insurance coverage unfortunately you may be deemed as a risk and pay a higher premium... - obtaining a position within a field that requires a mental evaluation such as the police force or ambulance service - other future employment opportunities or promotions When you choose a service and bypass the Medicare route you might pay more for your support however you get to choose who is the best person to work alongside you on your journey and you wont have a Mental Health Plan recorded permanently against your name. We all go through tough times in life and there is absolutely no shame in seeking help. We are very fortunate to have some great options available in Australia. Just weigh up the pros and cons when it comes to public and private service streams and really try and find the right person for you because research shows that success in therapy is highly dependent on the relationship you have with your therapist. - Lauren, Deep Speak

23.01.2022 How we experience our world ultimately comes down to perspective. Life isnt black and white. Things dont have to be wrong or right. Often things can be grey, and for this reason we are better to be curious, and better still, to always be kind. Was that barista who served you a coffee being rude, or were they simply having a bad day? ... Is your partner ignoring you or do they have a lot on their mind? Is your child naughty, or are they just overwhelmed? The thing is, we may never know the answer but we should always question what our mind assumes. Just because we think it, doesnt mean it is so. If you find yourself getting trapped in negative thoughts, try to pursue another perspective. Ask yourself is there another way to think about this?. Usually there is. It may not change the situation you find yourself in, but it will probably change how you feel about that situation. Suddenly you arent angry at that barista, upset with your partner or frustrated with your child. Instead you feel empathy, and as such you will respond with care and compassion, instead of anguish and anger. Thoughts lead to feelings and feelings lead to actions. Think different things and you will do things differently

22.01.2022 When children experience big emotions and tantrums, it is important to see this not as attention seeking but rather connection seeking. If we ignore or punish a child for feeling things then we miss an opportunity to help them identify their feelings and work through them in a healthy way. Children that learn to regulate themselves become adults that can regulate themselves. Co-regulation is the key.

21.01.2022 So simple yet we often neglect to do these. Chances are if you arent feeling great, one or more of these has slipped. You cant build a tower without strong foundations.

21.01.2022 Co-regulation is the key.

18.01.2022 A car won't go far without basic maintenance. We are the same. What self-care can you practice? A little goes a long way.

18.01.2022 Starting off my Monday with a hike up Castle Hill, which is in Townsville, QLD. I truly do believe that there aint no mountain high enough to keep me from living and loving my life. I do mean that in both a literal and metaphorical sense. You see a mountain is like every hard obstacle in our lives. We might look at it before we begin and say thats massive and think theres no way I can do that and so maybe we never try. But if instead we say how great will it feel whe...n I finish this and just put our best foot forward, we would soon look around and realise that all of a sudden we are half way there. Sure we may have tripped and stumbled at times, and found ourselves wanting to give up, but at the end of it all we got to stand tall, because it was the hardest thing we ever pushed ourselves through, and we finished it. Never let anyone tell you that you cant do something, that includes you. Your life is yours to live and the hard stuff can break us or it can make us. Dont ever look at lifes challenges as mountains you cant climb. Be curious about whats beyond the tough, because its probably amazing stuff! Have faith in yourself and put your best feet forward, you will never know where they may take you. Trust me, the view is worth it

17.01.2022 So simple yet we often neglect to do these. Chances are if you aren't feeling great, one or more of these has slipped. You can't build a tower without strong foundations.

17.01.2022 This is a great tip. We have to be careful not to glorify feeling happy. Other feelings are not bad. Of course we may not enjoy other feelings as much as we enjoy feeling happy but all feelings are important and all are valid. An easy way to reduce any shame or guilt for not feeling great is to say to yourself I may not feel good right now but thats okay. I love and accept myself now, and always.

16.01.2022 It is no secret that music can be a huge mood booster but there is something extra special about Solfeggio frequencies. Used in ancient times and backed by scientific studies, the sound frequencies are thought to have a powerful positive impact on the mind and body. I've been listening to 417 hz in the mornings before I start my day and I pair this with positive self-talk. As a mum of two busy little boys, I need to always be proactively promoting my physical and mental healt...h to avoid pouring from an empty cup. I find these frequencies really clear my mind and relax my nervous system. Check out the link below for more information and to listen to the sound frequencies. Comment on this post to tell me about your experience with them https://www.google.com//benefits-of-music-based-on-7-/amp/

16.01.2022 This is a great tip. We have to be careful not to glorify feeling 'happy'. Other feelings are not 'bad'. Of course we may not enjoy other feelings as much as we enjoy feeling happy but all feelings are important and all are valid. An easy way to reduce any shame or guilt for not feeling great is to say to yourself 'I may not feel good right now but that's okay. I love and accept myself now, and always'.

16.01.2022 Yes! The chaos calms much quicker this way too.

15.01.2022 We just hit 200 likes Thanks so much for all the support everyone! It is so appreciated

15.01.2022 R u ok? Because its absolutely okay not to be. We all have our down days and even though we may feel like it sometimes, we are not alone. Humans need other humans. We crave connection. Ask your friends, ask you family...even that barista who served you a coffee and didnt seem too happy...ask them...R U OK? Sometimes all it takes is a person to reach out for the other person to reach within, and realise no, that they are not okay. To be able to say out loud what is on your m...ind, however scary sometimes, can be a very freeing experience. And when someone tells you that they are not okay, remember to thank them for telling you, listen without judgement and respond with care and compassion. Its R U OK day today, so check in with your loved ones, or anyone for that matter :) We are also here for anyone if you ever want some professional and personable support. - Lauren, Deep Speak.

12.01.2022 If knowledge is power then there is surely no greater power than knowing the self. In knowing our strengths we are strong, and in realizing our skills, we become skillful. What do we think about what we think? How do we feel about what we feel? Are we mindful of our minds? Are we being well with our well-being? We live bound by time, however must take the time to live.... And so to look forward, we must first look within. Study our reflections, and then reflect. Because knowledge is power. And there is no greater power than knowing the self. - Lauren Cavati, Deep Speak

09.01.2022 How to enhance your connection with your child

09.01.2022 For all of us, this Pandemic has led to loss. Loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, loss of money, loss of education, loss of leisure, loss of life as we knew it. Where there is loss there is grief. There has been widespread loss and therefore widespread grief. All of us are in some way, experiencing some pain associated with this grief and loss, and therefore are likely to have experienced some or all of the stages of grief and will probably continue to flick in and out of the s...tages in differing orders, as we try to process everything that this year has thrown at us. The stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. As you move through the various stages, allow yourself to feel things but to not get entangled in these things that you feel. Be kind to yourself, focus on the moments you are in and what is in your control, re-align with your values and connect with your loved ones, in anyway that you are able to. You are human and you are not alone. Your loss, your grief, and your pain, although uniquely yours, are also in some way, shared by the whole world right now. Lets make caring for ourselves and eachother contagious See more

09.01.2022 Spent the morning near the beach, lapping up some vitamin D and that cool sea breeze. Did you know that blue space has huge psychological benefits? Im sure it wouldnt take a study to confirm that you feel damn good when you are near any beautiful body of water but studies do show this is the case. Research shows that blue space has a restorative effect on us. It significantly reduces our stress levels and promotes positivity. ... If you are feeling burnt out and are able to, head to a large body of water and soothe your soul. - Lauren, Deep Speak

05.01.2022 Welcome to Deep Speak Counselling and Life Coaching. Thank you so much for visiting our page! My name is Lauren Cavati and I am the founder of Deep Speak. We provide online counselling to anyone in Australia wanting some support. I was born and raised in a small rural town in NSW where people really connected and cared for each other. It was a place where we didnt even lock the doors to our houses...we didnt need to...because we trusted and respected each other. I guess th...is is where my values grew from, leading me to pursue a career in helping others. I went on to complete a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Social Work and spent nearly eight years in the Not-for-Profit sector of Community Services. With all the changes that have happened in 2020 due to Covid-19, I started to think about how I could help others during this time, and ongoing. I remembered how in my small town, we would often lose track of time engaged in deep speak. Many of the conversations I had back then, were nothing short of life changing. And so it only felt fitting that this service be called Deep Speak. A safe place online where people can connect with someone who really cares and develop a therapeutic relationship built on mutual trust and respect. It is my intention that with Deep Speak, we can really help others and be a part of many more life changing conversations.

05.01.2022 One of the things that I love about being a mobile service is that I can meet people wherever they would like to have their session. This mornings backdrop was tall green trees and salty beach air. Talk therapy is good for the soul and so is being out in nature. Combine the two and you have a quality combo

01.01.2022 When we are small we look up. We gaze in wondertall people, tall trees, tall expectations. We are led, hand in hand, and rarely understand, the huge wide world and all of its fascinations. When we are small we listen.... We hear in awebig voices, big ideas, big explanations. We are told one by one, by almost everyone, of why we cant do thingsso many endless justifications. When we are small we follow. We step with cautionshy feet, shy hearts, shy dispositions. We are shown, here and there, and life seems so unfair, as we stumble blindlytrying to learn and acquire our positions. When we are bigger we desire. We start to yearnhuge plans, huge duties, huge objectives. We are informed, more and more, and somehow become unsure, as we try in desperationto develop our own perspectives. When we are bigger we lose sight. We begin to forgethearts break, hearts harden, hearts inundated. We are confused, day by day, and somehow lose our way, as we begin to forgetthat life is ours to be created. When we are grown we still need growth. We need to take a breath...re-evaluate, restore and regenerate. We can transcend, in and out, re-imagining who we want to be, and living authentically...and it is never too late. - Lauren Cavati, Deep Speak

01.01.2022 Be good humans and they will be good humans too

01.01.2022 We can be purposeful instead of powerless.

01.01.2022 What if I told you that you feel what you think? That simply thinking negative could push you to the brink. Is your day long or is it rich with time? You see it could be exhausting or it could be divine. By seeing possibility as you glimpse that first sun ray, you could feel inspired as you go about your day.... Really the world is whatever you believe it to be. You can decide if it is full of pain...or possibility. Change your mind and your life will change too. The power to recreate the world around you lies within you. Lauren Cavati, Deep Speak.

01.01.2022 In our smartphone society we all find ourselves mindlessly scrolling social media apps more often than we would probably like to admit. This addictive activity prevents us from using our time meaningfully and mindfully experiencing our lives. Here are some apps which you can download to manage this habit. I've been using 'Off time' but there are lots to choose from. Try replacing some of the time spent on social media with self-care or social activities. https://www.google.com//10-apps-that-block-social-media-so
