24.01.2022 Australian Employment Market Update The tail end of November was a busy time for our recruiters. We’d placed most of our new starters in the last two weeks of the month. Employers looking to start new staff in January were locking away the best candidates they could find. We expect the need for new staff to taper off in the second week of December and start ramping up again in earnest after Australia day (late January). This is when most HR and hiring staff have returned to w...ork. Smart employers know that good staff are hard to find during the holiday season, and they most likely won’t have in-house staff available to manage the interviewing and hiring process. 21.01.2022 Great companies dont put up with mediocre staff. Around this time of year we are approached by employers wanting to gear up for a big 2020. The trend we are seeing this year is for employers to let go the staff that have been handbrakes on their growth and find new higher performers to replace them.... We have seen employers this year hire for technical skills - and now they are firing them for lack of good behavioral skills. It is an expensive exercise hiring the wrong person. Some pundits estimate a years salary is lost in training, hiring, brand damage and lost revenue from keeping the wrong person. How do you screen for the right behaviors? We believe that CV's, interviewing, psychometric testing and reference checking need to tell a consistent story about the candidates behavioral profile and motivations. Unfortunately most hiring managers dont have a good toolkit to screen for these. It is all to easy to form a bias on a candidate that interviews will and has the right keywords in their CV.
