Fact: Functional transfer takes place along a wide continuum; it is not a binary yes/no outcome. Moreover, it is highly specific to individual needs and abilities; what may be "functional" for one person may have little relevance to someone else. For most, simply getting stronger will produce important functional improvements that... allow them to carry out activities of daily living. Thus, typical bodybuilding-type programs will result in substantial functional benefits for the majority of the population. As with all aspects of applied exercise, programs need to be targeted to the individual. If a person has specific "functional" needs, then specific manipulations of exercise variables can be used to optimize a given fitness outcome. But let's stop creating clickbait buzzwords that not only misrepresent the benefits of exercise, but potentially discourages people from training
