24.01.2022 Have just listened to Nick McCallum, Darren James & Heidi Murphy on 3AW Melbourne - 693AM making the most irresponsible & factually incorrect remarks about COVI...D19 testing. At a time when testing is critical to identify clusters & individuals, who are infected, so that the general population & our most vulnerable can be safer & workers can get back to their employment, these three have used phrases such as, it's like 'sticking something into your brain; 'poking your eyeball' & 'very painful' to describe the testing procedure. How are those publicly broadcasted comments going to encourage people to attend for testing when the government is aiming for 100,000 over this fortnight & beyond for many months? For the record, the test is a NASAL SWAB - it is uncomfortable for a few seconds but could potentially save lives. It does not go anywhere near the brain or the eyes, let alone penetrate either of them. I am a frontline nurse & I am too incensed to phone them on air because I'm not sure I'd be able to contain my anger. None of them declared that they have had the test & yet they felt qualified to repeat emotionally provocative hearsay that could be very damaging & frightening. BTW I have had a nasal SWAB & I have performed them, so I DO KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. 24.01.2022 Defib First & Adopt-A-Defib are very proud to launch our new Medical Emergency Control Plan - C.A.R.D.I.O. which is intended to complement DRSABCD. In workplaces & community spaces, it has become glaringly obvious that there is a lack of coordinated information on how to manage the scene of a medical emergency to minimise delays and optimise first aid response. The emphasis has most importantly been on the primary action plan for resuscitating the victim however most organ...isations do not factor logistical management of the scene into that response. Another aspect that is too frequently overlooked is providing debriefing support for employees and witnesses of a medical incident. Unlike fire/smoke management plans which are mandated there are no similar requirements for controlling medical emergency incidents. 22.01.2022 When WorkSafe organisations also recommend the inclusion of AEDs in the workplace, it is time that Governments started to listen. Sudden cardiac arrest is the biggest killer - not road fatalities, fire/smoke related, workplace accidents, cancer, suicide. All of these causes of death are tragic but they are eclipsed by the rate of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest deaths in the community. Sudden cardiac arrest IS NOT a heart attack. The evidence from Ambulance Victoria is clear -... someone suffering from sudden cardiac arrest is 2-3 times more likely to survive if a bystanders start CPR and apply a defibrillator before the arrival of emergency services. The problem is there are too few AEDs in the community and too few people who are confident to use them. 22.01.2022 So many businesses are cancelling scheduled flu vaccination sessions because their employees are working from home. This year, of all years, it is critical that as many people as possible are immunised against the flu. Having a flu shot in the workplace carries less risk of transmission than a pharmacy or medical clinic because there is minimal interaction with others. Some businesses are bringing their staff back for 20 mins to be vaccinated but the numbers are well down. 18.01.2022 Today is the 11th anniversary of my husband Paul's death caused by sudden cardiac arrest. He was fit and healthy and only 56 yrs old. He left behind five chil...dren Bridgette, Paul, Gerard, Xavier & Damien and so far would have five beautiful grandchildren who will never know him. I am currently in hospital recovering from brain surgery and my request today, in memory of Paul, is that the campaign to improve survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest reaches its goal. No. There is no vaccine available yet against Coronavirus.
