25.01.2022 I told you guys to follow them... Picked the Derby winner, and brutally honest about the Cup. To be fair, the last decade has been a pin the tail on the donkey choice for the Cup. I used to have some clue about the international form when I was working for Aushorse, but the last couple of years have been a mystery bet. May as well be a once a year punter who picks on colour or pretty name for what its worth... Anyone got any clues about the Cup field?
24.01.2022 Time to nominate
22.01.2022 RIP Subzero. You touched so many hearts. Champion.

17.01.2022 We have come here today, to share our opinion on the findings coming out of the Darren Weir investigation. You can read more here: https://amp.theage.com.au//j...igger-video-links-darren-weir- Honestly, we feel sick reading about what he and others have allegedly done. No horse deserves that kind of treatment. Fixing races is one thing, and serious in itself, but you cannot excuse the use of cruel implements such as jiggers. It is disturbing to think that there could have still been people in the industry using such measures. Whatever their motive, you dont treat animals that way, and we as an industry wont stand for it. The horses are the bread and butter of the industry, they deserve our upmost respect, care and attention. No horse should ever be forced to perform under such cruel training tactics. We know that the majority of industry participants are good people, and feel similarly about this topic, so it is good to see that the integrity unit is doing something and alleged cheats are being investigated, and punishments being dealt. We are so disheartened to be such proud advocates of this industry, defending all the good people within it, all the while there are a minority who are exploiting it. We know it will never be perfect, nothing is, but we will continue to push for the best welfare and honesty that we can achieve. Apologies for the lack of posts lately, we have generally felt that CPR is struggling to gain new followers, so we havent felt much need to address any of their re-hashed lies and ridiculous new claims they have come up with. Their social media person is obviously a new recruit and prefers talking to an echo chamber, with a strict agenda of abolishment.

16.01.2022 RIP Chris. I worked for the NZ Racing Hall of Fame during the early days and Chris had so much energy and enthusiasm for the project. He really was the driving force behind it and he will be missed by many in the NZ racing scene. My thoughts with his family and friends.

14.01.2022 Today I will be writing something different - a very harsh letter to Biosecurity Queensland with regards to the cruelty shown to horses on ABCs 7.30 report last night. It was disgusting and my heart is broken for those horses to be so dreadfully treated. I will also be copying this to the ACMA given the blatant misreporting that happened in the TV show. But, you might say, isnt that just about racehorses? ...Continue reading

12.01.2022 This is dedication. Our Tuncurry trainer, Terry Evans has spent the last few nights sleeping in the stables with the horses to protect them if they needed to be... evacuated. He does a fantastic job and is so caring. Well done Terry, we are proud you have your horses stabled at the Tuncurry racecourse. See more
11.01.2022 Co-Signed. When I was working for Aushorse, I had a good handle on the international form, and that really helped when putting together tips for the Cup. Lately, a lot of my focus has been on my author business (www.reneedahlia.com) and Ive cut back on my work for various racing clients. So this will be the first year in over a decade that I dont do my laymans Cup tips. ... #YuptotheCup
11.01.2022 Heading into Cup Week at Flemington, so just a reminder the form guides with tips, suggested bets and feature race previews will be out on Facebook, and on www....turfdeli.com.au mid-afternoon the day before each meeting. We run a fun and free service and don't flood your newsfeed with annoying advertisements or dodgy claims. So if you like what we do you can return the favour by sharing this page with your friends, enemies and acquaintances or tag them in the comments below. We have had a pretty good success rate in the VRC Derby and are keen to bet again this year. Melbourne Cup has been a shocker and we normally go well in the VRC Oaks. So tune in and see what we get up to this year as you punt along from home (nothing like the photo below). How on earth did people find each other when you couldn't swap twenty messages back and forth saying " to the left of the ice cream stand "
10.01.2022 Press Release from Thoroughbred Breeders Australia Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA) condemns in the strongest terms the treatment of horses shown in tonights ABC 7.30 program. I am appalled by the vision broadcast tonight, said Tom Reilly, chief executive of TBA.... All horses, whether thoroughbreds or not, deserve to be treated humanely and with dignity, added Mr Reilly. The full force of the law should be brought down on anybody in the footage shown mistreating those horses. The thoroughbred industry needs a full and frank discussion about what happens to horses when they leave the industry. And while there is good work being done to rehome horses, we have to look at how participants and regulators can and must do better. We also need to have confidence in the numbers the industry publishes about what happens to animals when they leave racing.

08.01.2022 GLOBAL IMPACT: The Rise Of The Japanese Thoroughbred Watch the remarkable 30 year transformation of Japanese racing and breeding from industry outpost to glo...bal powerhouse. 08.01.2022 If you cant turn the first barrel, its not because your horse is a Thoroughbred. If you cant execute a correct stop, its not because your horse is a Thoroug...hbred. If you cant ride quietly down the trail, its not because your horse is a Thoroughbred. If you arent winning, its not because your horse is a Thoroughbred. A Thoroughbred is a horsemans horse. They can be reactive and sensitive. They require consistency and patience. They will make you painfully aware of your shortcomings. A Thoroughbred will also make you realize your strengths. When properly prepared, they will outrun and out-try all the competition. They will give you every ounce of their big hearts. So, if your horse is spooky, skinny, flighty or crazy, its not because your horse is Thoroughbred. It is simply your Thoroughbred calling upon you to become the horseman he needs you to be. 06.01.2022 Once again, Turf Deli says it like it is.
04.01.2022 Some numbers: Australian population: 26million Approx 90% of people live in cities, therefore country towns and rural population: 2.6million. Estimates Australian horse population: 1 million ... Racehorses in training: 30,000 (aged 2-12) At stud mares/sires: 25,000 At stud foals and yearlings: 24,000 Retired each season from racing: 2,500 to stud and 8,000 to other. Same number 10,500 enter training each year. Estimated retired racehorses not at stud: 100,000. Estimated sent to knackery from all places: Unknown. There is no mandatory reporting required to be done by knackeries. There are several studies that count the weight of horse meat processed and use that to estimate the number of horses processed, but none look at breeds. The only study that counted breeds only looked at 300 horses over a short time period and counted anything with a brand as an ex-racehorse (which meant other breeds such as quarterhorses could easily have been miscounted as racehorses). Anyone quoting a number in the media has invented that number. There is simply no data.
03.01.2022 Can you work out the names of the Bhima staff members favourite broodmares?
03.01.2022 Not racing, but wow, these horses are gorgeous. I love this tradition (also the very fat pony in the middle of the video is hilarious).
03.01.2022 "One of racings best-kept secrets is the incredible work it has done to improve equine welfare. The fatality rate in Victoria is one of the lowest in the world at 0.05 per cent of starts; In Victoria alone, $350 million per year is spent on the care and welfare of the animal; and Post-racing, 90 per cent of horses are rehomed for equestrian, pleasure or breeding purposes and 1 per cent or less end up at livestock sales.... The racing industry should be proudly beating its chest about the work its doing in the welfare space because you can guarantee no one else is going to go out of their way to do so. But as sure as the sun comes up, the mainstream media will be there to cast the sport in a poor light every time it flaunts equine welfare." https://www.racing.com//comment-protect-racings-social-lic
