25.01.2022 Hey Rick Withapee, if you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined. Aye. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_28mmoBNEgY

25.01.2022 Memorial day just past in the USA. This is what war is, not just the elderly men and women in ANZAC day marches. The servicemen and women who pay the ultimate price are generally cut down in the prime of life. Lest We Forget.

23.01.2022 Fair winds Sir Sean Connery.

23.01.2022 Even though we did not have an official ceremony in Delegate this year, our Primary School and Pre School have done this town proud. Heartfelt thanks to the Staff and Students at both establishments. You all really live by the creed "We will Remember Them".

22.01.2022 Life in a blue suit.

21.01.2022 Vale and farewell Dame Vera Lynne. You are a great loss to the planet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovfQjR3iU-A

21.01.2022 This past year has seen a massive influx of Navy and Army personnel rotating through this district as part of the Covid Safe Deployment. It has been an honour and genuine pleasure to get to meet the young men and women currently serving our nation, and to know that our legacy as old Veterans is in very safe hands.

20.01.2022 ANZAC Day is fast approaching. With these strange events that we presently find ourselves, let us not forget the past sacrifices made on our behalf. For those interested, prints of this artwork can be found on my website: https://iancoate.com/sales.html#prints

20.01.2022 How fabulous are these photos of our Kija men receiving their Norforce Medals from Keith Payne VC. You men are deadly! We are soooooo proud of you!

20.01.2022 A new artwork. I love telling a story through pictures. Hopefully these three silhouettes are a small reminder of the past sacrifice and loss on our behalf it’s the reason we stop to remember every ANZAC Day. LEST WE FORGET and repeat the past. https://iancoate.com/

12.01.2022 Please spread the word to any WW2 Veterans you know. This article has a link to apply for the Commemorative Medallion. https://militaryshop.com.au/World-War-II-Veterans-Awarded-7

12.01.2022 In 2019 we were honoured to have the great grandson of Louisa Mallard recite this poem at our ANZAC Day commemoration service for Delegate. It is worth a read and the history behind the poem that Garry speaks of in the preamble.

10.01.2022 An aside from Decade... Saying goodbye to the Forces' Sweetheart VERA LYNN who died today at the age of 103. VERA LYNN - WE'LL MEET AGAIN... A leading symbol of resilience and hope during wartime, Vera's songs such as We'll Meet Again and The White Cliffs of Dover inspired both troops abroad and civilians at home. "The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain's best-loved entertainers at the age of 103," a statement said. Taken from the 1943 British musical film 'We'll Meet Again', directed by Philip Brandon and starring Vera Lynn in a plot loosely based on her life, I've upscaled and colourised the original black & white film of Vera performing the classic WE'LL MEET AGAIN which can be viewed here... https://www.youtbe.com/watch?v=zMUuuaUGff0

09.01.2022 We are just two days away from the most unusual ANZAC Day in over one hundred years. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the social distancing regulations have prevented Australians from gathering at War Memorials around the country to commemorate and remember our countries fallen warriors. The significance of these commemorations should not be lost on all Australians. We pride ourselves in being members of the 'lucky country' where men and woman are secure to live life full of fre...edoms denied to many. The men and women we remember at these war memorials have paid the ultimate sacrifice in securing and maintaining freedom for people around the globe. For those warriors that are still with us, this will be a difficult ANZAC Day. Many of the little rituals that help them keep their demons at bay have been denied them. They cannot gather with mates for the companionship and solace that being with others of shared experience gives them. They are unable to gather together in fellowship to mourn absent friends. They cannot even just sit quietly in a pub secure in the knowledge that most others in that pub, on that day, are veterans that will have their back if all hell breaks loose. This year, the Department of Veterans Affairs and various Ex Services Organisations are asking Australia to Light up the Dawn. The request is simple. Stand at the end of your driveway or on your balcony at 6 am, recite the Ode, observe a minutes silence and sound the Last Post (mp3 files can be found on the DVA ANZAC Portal https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au/resour/media/audio/last-post). I will be doing just that as I am sure will many of you, my fellow members of this wonderful community of Delegate and surrounds. As we have not been able to fundraise for ANZAC Day this year, if you are so inclined, please visit the RSL Defence Care WBI page http://www.defencecare.org.au/donate1 to make a donation. I am quite sure that the money donated will be well spent towards assisting some of our living warriors with the mental health issues that will be exacerbated by the social isolation currently in place. 09.01.2022 I had the very great fortune to serve under Commodore David "Pincher" Martin on HMAS Melbourne when I was a young man. He was a great skipper. https://www.smh.com.au//my-father-s-tears-for-his-dad-lost

09.01.2022 A little town, with a big heart. I do not have sufficient words to express my gratitude to everyone in Delegate who participated in the Stand at Dawn initiative. On a year, when I could not provide an ANZAC Service, the town more than made up for it. The decorations at the Cenotaph and Memorial Gates, pretty sure I know who did that, the window decorations and the number of flags flying around town. The number of wreaths, all individually laid at different times to comply wi...th social distancing and non gathering, was very heart warming to see. Thank you also to Greg and Kate for playing the Last Post, Reveille and We'll meet again, from their front verandah at 6am. I could hear it from across the river, so I am pretty sure it carried through the town. Thank you all and stay safe. Lest we Forget.

08.01.2022 This member newsletter from RSL NSW has details of the 10 am televised ANZAC Service for those who may want to watch from home. Lest we Forget.

06.01.2022 The Delegate RSL Sub Branch is saddened to learn of the death of John Askie earlier this week. John was a service member of our sub branch, having done national service in the Australian Army and quite a character with a rich fund of stories to tell. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family in this sad time.

04.01.2022 The government has now recommended the Victoria Cross for Edward (Teddy) Sheean.

03.01.2022 The Governor-General has advised me that The Queen has approved the award of the Victoria Cross for Australia to Ordinary Seaman Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean for his a...ctions on 1 December 1942, when he sacrificed his life to save his shipmates during the sinking of the HMAS Armidale. Teddy Sheean was an extraordinary Australian and Australia will remain eternally grateful for his service, dedication and sacrifice.
