SmartStrand also known as Triexta is a newer type of synthetic that is marketed as a luxurious and stain-resistant synthetic carpet. The reason is because they had been sold (by a high profile Adelaide furniture store whose name you would instantly recognise) a poor quality do-it-yourself leather "protector". This protector acted as a magnet so that any soiling or dirt would stick to it and the leather would get dirty quickly. Most of... the leather on sale in Adelaide is top coat pigmented leather; the pigment layer that you see acts as an insoluble barrier preventing stains and spills from soaking into the leather hide under it. The leather itself has a "protective" layer built into it, there's no need for an additional protector.
