25.01.2022 From a toasty bon fire at Deloraines Winter Fire, to ice covered roads and car crashes the next morning. Stay safe out there everyone

24.01.2022 Today is International Fire Fighters Day. Started in Australia in 1999 after the death of five fire fighters the year before, who were caught off guard when the wind changed and the bush fire they were fighting changed directions and engulfed their truck. We all know that fire fighting is a dangerous job but we train, teach and learn how to be as safe as we can. As we get ready to go out on a live fire training night, we remember those who have lost their lives or been injured doing this important job and learn from the past so we can all be here to help each other out tomorrow. I am very proud of our little brigade and the friendships we build. The door is always open to new volunteers at not only our station, but every volunteer brigade in Tassie. Stay safe.

24.01.2022 Don’t forget to change your smoke detector battery.

23.01.2022 Good evening all. It won’t be long now till the weather clears up and the fuel loads around the place start to dry up enough for land owners to start looking to do some cleaning up and Fuel Reduction Burns, which in most cases is a great idea. As much as we do like to see land owners do the right thing and prepare for summer, unfortunately for this summer at least, we at the Deloraine brigade will not be able to take part in any burns. We have a great group of members but be...tween our own set training, call outs, day jobs, family time, members volunteering for other services like SES and Tas Ambulance and other local sports and service clubs, we just don’t have the spare time to do these burns when the weather conditions are right. For this we are sorry but hope you all understand. The TFS has some fantastic information on their website and departments that specifically do this sort of work and are happy to answer questions you may have about doing your own burns. It is also very important to register your burn by simply calling 1800 000 699 any time of the year. By registering your fire it may save brigades being called to your fire saving a lot of time and maybe even some embarrassment of the land owner. Stay safe.

23.01.2022 This is the fast way to put a tree fire out. Over kill, but why not.

23.01.2022 On this normal spring weather morning here in Deloraine where most homes are still running heaters and the grass is still green, we just want to let our fellow firefighters on the mainland know we are thinking of them today as they work in hellish conditions. And we wish the Tassie crews up there all the best as they get to work today. Stay safe.

22.01.2022 Just a reminder about these two upcoming events. This Sunday 1st Dec, property field assessment day. Meet at 21 Johns Road, Reedy Marsh 1pm-4pm Thursday 5th Dec, bushfire ready info session at the Rotary Pavillion, Alveston Drive in Deloraine 6pm-7.30pm

22.01.2022 Come on down to the river bank and see Santa to get some lollies and the kids can play with the fire hoses too

22.01.2022 Rainy Sundays are made for paperwork, but we may need your help. We are working through years of books and records dating back to 1922. We have been given some money to do up an honour board for the Deloraine Brigade as part of our history, and being 3 years off our 100th year its about time we do it. If you have had family members in the brigade pre 1980, or you have old photos of the brigade we would love to hear from you.

21.01.2022 Hi all, heres a handy check list for you all. While everything around us is so crazy and uncertain we just wanted to let you know the red trucks will still be rolling out of the Deloraine station every time they are needed, same with our local Ses rescue unit. Of course we are taking precautions and changing the ways we go about training for a while but we are 100% committed to volunteering to our community.

19.01.2022 Good morning all. Been pretty normal going with the brigade for the last month or so, but on Monday night Apex Deloraine presented us with a high quality thermal imaging camera. This will be a very important bit of gear and used for a wide range of fires, but most importantly when we are called to house fires we can use it to search for trapped people in the smoke and detect high temp areas making it safer for our crews inside the fire. We are very grateful to get this sort of equipment and support from our community. Stay safe and remember to change your smoke alarm battery’s this weekend.

19.01.2022 It was great once again to get a visit from the Meander junior brigade Friday night who came in to learn new skills in urban fire fighting. The crew is made up from a great bunch of kids from around the area who may one day go on and join a senior active brigade. While we are talking about kids, please pass the word around that Deloraine fire brigade with Santas help, will be handing out lollies around the town Christmas Eve once again. We hope to see heaps of people, young and old out and about

19.01.2022 Hi all. Its on again and even though no one from Deloraine are going to head over to Melbourne this year, we are getting behind Shaun who did it last year with us and smashed it, running with his new brigade at Devonport and Kara taking part with Ulverstone for her first time. Good luck you two!!!

18.01.2022 Notice to Residents Severe Conditions Council has been advised that a very high fire danger rating has been forecast. A total fire ban is in place for Meander... Valley from 2am Thursday 21 November until 2am Friday 22 November. Strong winds are also expected to develop tomorrow morning. For updates visit https://bit.ly/2KD7nf7 See more

18.01.2022 Training will always be a very important part of our brigade.

17.01.2022 Hi all. Just a quick thank you to all locals in our area for being so careful and adhering to the total fire ban days we have had the last month or so. We are still busy with local call outs but nothing major. This has definitely helped us out and meant that we have been able to send trucks and crews from our area to Fingal every day and also members to NSW. Please stay safe and be careful with fire.

17.01.2022 Just a friendly timely reminder that it is very important to make sure that the ash you remove from a fire place/drum/pit is cold to touch and is put in a safe place. Deloraine brigade along with a crew from Westbury brigade, responded to multiple 000 calls for a structure fire in Deloraine on Friday. The fire had spread from hot ash and resulted in some damage to two properties. The quick action of the 000 callers and their information given to the fire fighters, meant that both houses were saved and no one was hurt.

17.01.2022 Sorry we have not posted for a long time but with the shut down we have been unable to train. We have had a nice steady amount of easy call outs to deal with so everything has been good and relaxing in the brigade. Today a few of us did get together for a bit of social distanced training and gear checks. Stay safe all.

15.01.2022 Massive thank you to the local team RRT. This group does an amazing job at feeding large numbers of people fresh food within a few hours of being requested. They have been awesome and have fed us a number of times over the years at large bushfires, and also helping out other community groups. We thank them so much for coming on board to help both our Fire Brigade and Meander Valley SES enjoy a great Christmas bbq tonight. Also a big thanks to all the families who called in to see Santa too, we were definitely kept busy for a while. We might look at doing some similar or bigger next year but for now merry Christmas all. Stay safe.

15.01.2022 It was great to see so many junior fire fighters at Meander tonight. Meander brigade run a junior brigade as well which train once a month with kids from 10 to 17 years old. Not only do they learn fire safety and team work, but they can also learn all the basic skills they will need if they choose to move into a full fighter role once theyre 18. Hats off to the Meander brigade for running such a good thing in our area.

15.01.2022 Good morning all. Sorry we havent posted anything for a while but we have still been chipping away with training, and with a steady flow of call outs continuing, its looking like one of our busiest years for a while. Last night Deloraine brigade along with Meander Valley Ses volunteers were paged to a road crash rescue on the Deloraine bypass. Along with Tas ambulance crews and Tas police crews we were looking after patients from 3 cars. As brigade chief, I could not be prouder of how well everyone worked together once again with fire and Ses crews working as one. I would like to thank all first responders and also the truck drivers who were forced to wait for many hours for the road to re open. Drive safe and enjoy the weekend all.

15.01.2022 Hi all. With COVID-19 playing havoc with most things including our lolly run and the opportunity for our brigade to raise funds to buy the lollies, we are blown away with the very kind donation from some businesses of pre wrapped COVID-19 safe lollies and chocolates to not only hand out to kids but also to the residents of the two aged care homes and hospital here in Deloraine. As I have said before, we can’t go around the streets this year sorry but instead we are going to have Santa, fire and rescue trucks and some activities for the kids down at the park near the swimming pool. So if you or someone you might know is in the area enjoying the river bank parks Christmas Eve between 5:30 and 8pm ish there’s every chance you will see us and Santa will have some treats to hand out. Merry Christmas all and stay safe.

14.01.2022 Last night our brigade attended a structure fire in Deloraine which we were able to contain quickly. During fire fighting operations unfortunately some of our crew were involved in a roof collapse of an adjoining carport. This has resulted in injuries to two of our members with one being transported to hospital for X-rays. Thankfully all injuries are only minor and we wish those members a speedy recovery.

14.01.2022 Election bbq tonight at the station. Congratulations to Alastair Horsburgh for being voted into the 2nd officer role and to Rick Walker for becoming 3rd officer. With the cold wet weather on us now please stay safe on the roads and remember to keep things a meter from the heater.

13.01.2022 Hi all, here’s a handy check list for you all.

13.01.2022 We would like to take a moment to welcome 5 of the 7 new members that have joined us and have been coming to training this summer. They have all been doing an awesome job learning and working with our experienced fire fighters on their skills so they can reach the point where they can respond to emergencies. I am super happy to see such a great mixture of volunteers at Deloraine. We are very proud of you all.

12.01.2022 We attended a single vehicle accident tonight. Please be careful on the roads.

12.01.2022 Massive thank you to the Deloraine Street Car Show committee who called in to present the donations to both the Deloraine Fire Brigade and Meander Valley Ses unit. With a lot of us volunteering with both Ses and fire, we always work closely together in both training and emergency situations and being able to take part in the car show is a massive boost for both fire and Ses. We look forward to being able to carry this on for years to come.

11.01.2022 Busy weekend coming up with the Deloraine Street Car Show on this Sunday. So tonights training was all about prep work, getting extra fire extinguishers, and hoses, walking and mapping the street for fire fighting equipment staging areas and making sure the crews know where the points of interest to us will be. It should be an amazing day as always and we are very much looking forward to it. We hope to see you all there.

11.01.2022 Good morning all. As you should know its that time of year again as summer is almost here. Already we are getting vegetation fires that can burn over night. So we are going to start posting more again to keep you all involved in whats going on in our area. We are getting a few requests to come look at peoples places and help do burns, which is great but please dont feel put off if we cant get there as volunteers need to work to get paid, and as we are already having a bus...y year we are just mindful of the hours we are putting in at the station. Last night at training we were joined by Jen Butler MP who chucked some gear on and had a crack. I for one always respect leaders who take the time to step out of their comfort zone to get a better understanding in some of the roles they make decisions on. Thank you for coming Jen and your always welcome back, and that welcome is also extended to anyone thinking of joining or wanting a better understanding of what the volunteers with the TFS do. Thank you. See more

11.01.2022 Hi all. We all know how crazy the year has been and how many changes have been put in place because of COVID-19. I am so proud of all the fire fighters in the Deloraine Brigade and all their hard work. We are also very proud of the role we play in our community which is why we are all disappointed in the decision we have had to make about our traditional Christmas Eve lolly run. New work place safety rules from the TFS and the guidelines set down around COVID-19, has made dri...ving the streets and handing out lollies no longer a possibility. However we do have another idea. Christmas Eve, from 6pm for a couple of hours we will be down at the park near the swimming pool, the Meander Valley SES rescue unit will join us with all of our trucks and our families. We hope to have some activities for the kids, lollies in wrappers, and of course Santa. We will be able to do all of this whilst abiding by the social distancing guidelines too. Feel free to call in on your way around the river and hopefully enjoy a clear summers Christmas Eve with your families in a very pretty part of our town.

10.01.2022 In the small world of our little brigade we have had a few busy weeks again. With the normal amount of call outs still ticking over we have also made time for a few of the more enjoyable roles we do in our community. For the 10th year in a row, Glen and Andy took part in fire safety week at the Deloraine Primary School. Joint training nights have also been run with our local country brigades. Last night Golden Valley joined us as we ran through a few hose drills. And with winter fire a few weeks away its giving us something to look forward to. Hope to see you all there.

10.01.2022 We are all sad to see Madi leave us as she is heading back to the mainland with her family. She has been brilliant in her short time in the brigade and she will be missed. We all wish her the very best with the future as we are sure it will be a bright one. She got called into work and couldnt make her last training night so we thought we would just go and catch up with her there. Have a good weekend everyone.

08.01.2022 Busy weekend coming up with the Deloraine Street Car Show on this Sunday. So tonight’s training was all about prep work, getting extra fire extinguishers, and hoses, walking and mapping the street for fire fighting equipment staging areas and making sure the crews know where the points of interest to us will be. It should be an amazing day as always and we are very much looking forward to it. We hope to see you all there.

06.01.2022 Few pics from this weeks training. Crews taking part in BA (breathing apparatus) refresher training. We are very lucky that a local business owner lets us train in their yard and also donated a shipping container for us to use. Using a smoke machine, we can get some realistic set ups. Well done to the team, who all passed the test with flying colours.

06.01.2022 Hi all and happy Friday. Part of our brigades training this time of year is to just get our heads around and refresh or memories of our ever changing local area. While we have been driving around our area, we have noticed more and more driveways that our trucks cant fit in due to them being overgrown. For us, an overgrown drive way can be a very dangerous place to be in a bush fire as fire fighters could easily become trapped. But also think, if your home catches fire we ca...nt get the fire trucks in, or if you have a heart attack an ambulance wont be able to get in adding a delay in a very time crucial situation. If you want more information on how to prepare your property, drop in to one of the upcoming info days or visit the TFS website. http://fire.tas.gov.au

06.01.2022 Thank you for all your calls of concern in regards the current fire out Quamby Brook way. Forestry is currently in control of the fire and all is ok

06.01.2022 This is what we like seeing and want to do more of. Deloraine is very lucky to have volunteer stations for fire, Ses and ambulance. The problem is we are still a small town, we all have families and work commitments. As much we all wish we can always respond with full crews, 24/7 every day of every year we just cant. So training and teaching each other where gear is, and how to chip in and help each other out is priceless for the all Deloraine crews. After all, we are all here to help our community out in times of need.

05.01.2022 What a great little event the Deloraine Flames Dragon Boat Club has run today on the river. It has turned out to be a great team building thing, as Deloraine Fire Brigade and Meander Valley SES put a joint team in to go up against other teams from the area and it came down to a very close final. Thank you very much to all the teams and the club who put it all together.

05.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Ricky Walker, who tonight was recognised for his 30 years of volunteering for the TFS

04.01.2022 Perfect weather conditions tonight with rain clouds about to burst, low winds and and very well prepared area crews from Deloraine, meander, golden valley and meander juniors took part in a training night practicing putting in control lines and back burning and watching and talking about fire behaviour.

04.01.2022 Hi all, a little update from us. Training is back into full swing at our brigade and we are making up for some lost time. We are always on the lookout for new members, so get in contact if you are interested in joining. Once again massive thank you to everyone in our area, I am always impressed by the fire safety in our community and the way most homes are prepared for not only bush fires but also winter and wood heaters. As always, if you can see a fire which you dont think is meant to be there call 000 to report it.

03.01.2022 Training and learning is something that is very important to us, but we always make sure we are having fun and enjoying what we are doing. Its this attitude to training and the friendship between us all, that keeps us turning up week in week out and hopefully gets new members in the door.

03.01.2022 Happy Sunday everyone. Just a little heads up, with the chance of a shower or two in the next few hours and pre sun rise temps dropping down to near freezing temperatures, please be very careful on the roads tomorrow especially around the Needles area and on bridges. Our local SES road crash rescue crew has been very busy over the last week so its definitely something to be mindful of. Drive to the conditions.

01.01.2022 Well thats another lollie run done. No one really knows when we started doing a Christmas Eve run, but we are going to keep doing them for as long as we can. We are very lucky to have such a great bunch of humans in our brigade and I am very proud of all of them. As we relax into whats left of Christmas Eve, we do think of all the crews on the main land doing it tough and we wish them all the best. Merry Christmas to you all, stay safe and think of others.
