24.01.2022 Well carving Birdseye maple can be challenging! Aching muscles and sore thumbs are part of the deal.

23.01.2022 The workshop is on again after the Cygnet Folk Festival from 16 Jan - 1 February 2019 in Deloraine at the Empire Hotel. We have 2 Tenor ukuleles and one dreadnought style to be built.

23.01.2022 Getting closer! Just doing a few touch ups to the surface with the scraper on the Huon and the BIrdseye Maple backs.

22.01.2022 The Tiger Myrtle dreadnought with a cutaway edging closer to completion.

17.01.2022 Mandolin building in Hobart in July. I will be in Hobart from 3 - 9 July building an A4 Mandolin. So if you are travelling through I will be at 191 Waterworks Road, Dynnyrne in a lovely little workshop learning how to use an ibex plane on a carve top. However before i leave Perth I have to decide on tone woods. The range is Bird's Eye maple from Eastern Canada with a Red spruce top from Virginia. An all Huon Pine body with White bait figuring. An all King Billy set. Native Olive with an Engelmann top of a Big Leaf Maple. Not quite sure about binding: Ebony or Ivoroid?

15.01.2022 Just a couple of extra images of the f holes.

14.01.2022 Deloraine Lutherie decamped to Hobart thi July. This is the last day of a 8 day ukulele build at Cary Lewincamp’s workshop. Individual builds are going well.

14.01.2022 Now for the tone bars. Looks better to go over size and plane down until I get the sweet spot.

12.01.2022 Here is the light box image of the top thickness

11.01.2022 Gluing tops and backs followed by marking out and cutting the plates to the correct profile. Learning how to use various small planes and scrapers has been a steep learning curve. Different density woods present a range of challenges from tear out to resistance to the "sharp" planne blades. Scrapers worked very well.

11.01.2022 Thought I would go down to the Salamanca Markets for a warmup and a change........not!

10.01.2022 Mandolin making is taking shape. We selected birds eye maple, big leaf maple and Huon pine for the three A5 Gibson reproductions.

10.01.2022 Head down and tail up. Keep it up!

09.01.2022 Well we spent the day marking out and cutting f-holes, planing and sanding the rim/sides.

08.01.2022 Just putting the finishing touches on my Sassafras ukulele

07.01.2022 A sweet sounding Swiss Spruce, Sycamore and Sassafras tenor ukulele. Finger board is Doral (Native Olive). I succeeded in side bending herring bone just!

06.01.2022 The Blackheart Sassafras is finished!

06.01.2022 A lovely Blackheart Sassafras is taking shape.

04.01.2022 Well we made it to the finish. Three ukuleles and one dreadnought with a cutaway. Here are two of these instruments.

02.01.2022 Carving progresses on the top with the aid of the scraper, Magic Probe and the light box.

02.01.2022 The finish line is in sight. Fantastic workshop and heaps of challenges.

01.01.2022 Heading off to the Craft Fair in Deloraine. Kev and myself should be hanging at the Empire Hotel to show our ukulele and guitar wares. If you are passing through see you on Saturday or give a call and arrange a time.
