19.01.2022 Therapists are witnessing increased anxiety and trauma symptoms in clients triggered into feelings of helplessness and being trapped because of lockdown. Usual self-soothing strategies may not be available. Telehealth sessions may feel alienating and isolating. Clients’ needs are heightened at a time when therapists are also grappling with new ways of working and their own concerns related to the pandemic. Dr Ford will present how to adapt complex trauma treatment to meet pandemic-related challenges and the need to recognize and manage secondary traumatic stress.

17.01.2022 There will be abuse victims across the world devastated by the High Court outcome today. The decision does not mean that the alleged offences did not happen but that there was not enough evidence 'beyond reasonable doubt'. The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and fearless investigation by police and reporting by Joanne McCarthy, Sarah Ferguson, Louise Milligan and David Marr, to name a few, exposed the Catholic Church, other churches and ins...titutions to have been a breeding ground for another 'virus' that has seen a hidden pandemic of child sexual abuse across decades with countless victims, death by suicide, chronic physical, mental health and substance abuse problems. Today and in the coming weeks and months, hold all victims and survivors of abuse, and those who did not survive, close in your thoughts and hearts. https://www.abc.net.au//george-pell-wins-high-cou/12048726

16.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.... "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." "That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." A.A. Milne Sending thoughts to those having a Difficult Day today and hope you have your own Piglet to sit beside you

12.01.2022 DARVO - Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender is a far too common experience of victims of childhood abuse, adult sexual assault, domestic abuse and other forms of victimization. In Australia we saw DARVO as the 'go to' response by the Catholic Church to reports of sexual abuse by priests and nuns. In the tragic murder of Hannah Clarke and her three children earlier this year, Bettina Arndt posed the question "Was this a case of being pushed too far?
