23.01.2022 Jazzy Retires Our beautiful Jazzy has been a Delta Therapy Dog for almost five years. Every week she has visited the residents of Uniting Care Koombahla and Belmont Library where she is part of the Bark Reading Program. She has done such an amazing job bringing joy to everyone she meets. Students that have read to Jazzy have improved their reading skills and gained confidence when reading aloud. One little Yr 1 student, who had never spoken a word at school, found that Jazzy...'s calmness gave him the courage to start talking to people. He is now talking to everyone in his class and some staff members and now catches a bus to school. Jazzy has made many friends at the nursing home, both residents and staff. Often residents are upset, and Jazzy has a knack of calming them down. She instinctively knows which hand to go to when she approaches residents who only have the use of one arm. One dementia resident in her last few months, reacted to Jazzy every week with a big smile. The favourite part of Jazzy's visit each week was the treats she received off my Mum and Beryl at the end of the visit. She wasn’t allowed any treats on the way around as she drooled too much. Two weeks ago we took Jazzy to the vet thinking she had something stuck in her throat, only to find out she has a large tumour in her left lung that is pressing on her trachea. We don't know how much longer we will have with her. So it is with much sadness that Jazzy had her last visit to Koombahla this morning.

Beautiful food, lovely company, games and prizes, individual volunteer gifts and to top it off a lovely thank you card for each volunteer from the classmates of a student at New Lambton PS who has been in and out of the JHH all year. Thank you to all the organisers.

Our Delta Dogs were very happy getting so much love, pats and cuddles from people who attended. It was wonderful to be able to promote Delta Therapy Dogs and showcase the wonderful job that our Delta Dogs do for the Hunter Newcastle Community. Many thanks to Justine and Hamish, Bill and Penny, Evette and Kobi, Christine and Zala, Jenny and Poppy, Susan and Scoota, Ralph and Abby and my girl Milly.

04.01.2022 Big thank you to Shirley and all the Tai Chi ladies. Over the past 18 months, Shirley has made many regular personal donations to Delta Society. She also organises wonderful lunches for the Tai Chi ladies three or four times a year, and allows me to run a raffle where all the proceeds goes to Delta Society. Shirley and these generous Tai Chi ladies have raised well over $1000. Thank you so much for supporting Delta Therapy Dogs allowing us to spread doggy joy to those who nee...d it the most. My beautiful Jazzy attended a Tai chi class on Wednesday, as all the ladies wanted to meet a Delta Therapy Dog. She was such a good girl laying on her mat and watching all the ladies do their thing. She got a little confused with some of the arm movements and thought they were signals for her to come. I would love to know what she was thinking while watching us.

03.01.2022 Totally forgot to share these photos taken at the John Hunter Hospital on May 22. Some of our Volunteers were invited to attend a 'Paws the Pressure' visit for Hunter Resident Medical Officers. Our Therapy Teams met lots of doctors in the wards and emergency, as well as in their staff lounge area. Such a wonderful day. #mydeltadog Our Therapy Dog Teams were: Margaret Jackson and Minstrel... 03.01.2022 DELTA DOGS HELP KIDS BUILD CONFIDENCE AND ABILITY WITH READING ALOUD Reading is such a great way for kids to get immersed in something other than scre...ens. But for some gaining the confidence to read aloud in front of people can be a challenge. Lake Mac Libraries is hoping to change that with Bark Reading Program that introduces participants to therapy dogs from Friends of Delta Therapy Dogs - Hunter Newcastle. 01.01.2022 Hello wonderful Newcastle volunteers! We are looking at having an assessment day soon and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for where we could hold it? We have tried the Newcastle All Breeds Dog Training Club at Hillsborough, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas? Thank you
