23.01.2022 Have done another Louise De Masi tutorial, this time one of a Sun Conure to explore bird feathers in watercolours. Really enjoying the process and think I'll attempt another tutorial before tackling one of my own as have quite a few Australian birds to paint. Was a bit of a struggle this time around as didn't have all the necessary colours needed in Winsor & Newton or Schmincke (as they're of better quality) so ended up using some from Art Spectrum but find some of their colours don't seem to apply on the surface as well as the other brands. Some of these colours are now on my 'upgrade shop wish list'. Done on Arches HotPressed 300gsm watercolour paper.

23.01.2022 Chrysanthemum. Continuing the Louise De Masi tutorials. I enjoyed doing this despite some challenges being encountered during it. I realized I should've used hot press watercolour paper instead of cold press as it would allow me to control the color flow and have sharper edges, but despite this, it still worked out in its own way. Done with Schmincke and Winsor & Newton watercolours on Arches CP watercolour paper in A3 size.

23.01.2022 My little girl, Akira has just turned a big 20 today! She's pretty healthy and going strong, still demands attention and loves her treats. She celebrated her birthday by having her favourite fish - flathead. I can't believe it was 20 years ago when I got her in Edinburgh, Scotland to keep me company while living and working over there and I then brought her back home with me to Brisbane a few years later. Happy 20th Birthday Akira!

22.01.2022 Sleepy Koala. Continuing the tutorials by Louise De Masi as want to do a few before the subscription expires next week. This one looks at dropping in colours in a wet in wet method. Will be starting on a chrysanthemum today. Done with watercolours on Arches CP 300gsm watercolour paper.

19.01.2022 Here's a galah done with watercolours, using a watercolour tutorial via video by Louise De Masi. It was a wonderful learning process and Louise shows all the steps very clearly. Done with mixture of Winsor Newton and Schmincke watercolours on A3 Arches Hot Pressed watercolour paper.

17.01.2022 Here's to 2020 and time to put together new drawings for the next few months. It had been in my mind during the end of 2019 that I would do more drawings of Australian animals and birds to continue the theme after doing the rainbow lorikeet. Now the choice would seem be appropriate now that we're going through the devastating Australian bushfires which has affected so many people's lives, the environment but has also had a very severe impact on our wildlife with so many injured or killed by the fires. The first piece I'm starting on will be of the koala.

16.01.2022 Pink Rose. Another Louise De Masi tutorial done during some quiet moments at home. Was fun experimenting with blending of unusual colours which isn't typical of the foilage. I forgot to take a photo of it before I put it in a frame so not the best photo in terms of sharpness and clarity due to glass reflection. Done with watercolours on Arches HP watercolour paper.

11.01.2022 Robin.... another Louise De Masi tutorial which I did quickly over a couple of hours today as was in the mood for a quick short painting. Done with different watercolour brands on Arches HP watercolour paper in A4 size.

09.01.2022 One of my projects done in my watercolour art class using pen and ink. This is of an old German village and this is one of my favorites that I've done so far in these classes. Used Arches 300gsm hot press paper and combination of Art Spectrum and Schmincke watercolors.

09.01.2022 I started this stippling drawing of a banksia about 11 months ago. Yes it did take that long but when I had a spare moment here and there, I'd pick it up and do a little bit here and there then put it down for later as it was just so time consuming adding in all the tiny dots. It was a totally new method as I had to focus on ensuing that the lights were kept light by keeping the dots sparse and more closer together for darks. Done with fine black Copic pens on A4 watercolour paper. Photo from Pixabay.

09.01.2022 Succulent. Managed to finish this Louise De Masi tutorial after a few weeks as this one took quite some time to do. It was great doing this one as working wit...h greens can be tricky as it's easy to end up mixing and using the wrong greens and make the finished plant look a bit artificial. Only one issue I found was that Winsor&Newton Terre Verte felt a bit greasy so was hard to work around that colour. Am now feeling ready to start doing my own watercolours so watch the space. Done with watercolours on Arches HP 300gsm A3 watercolour paper. See more

07.01.2022 Happy New Year. Hope 2020 is a good year for you all and that it brings in a safer and more settled decade for everyone all around the world.

06.01.2022 Here's a watercolour of a giraffe, using Louise De Masi's tutorials. Again so much fun doing them and learning different techniques used in watercolours. I have to get used to the granularity that is normal for certain colours such as burnt sienna, raw umber and French Ultramarine. At times I feel I need to smooth some areas out but realize it does gives it the effect. Done with a variety of watercolour brands on Arches HP watercolour paper.

03.01.2022 I started doing the intermediate/ advanced watercolour classes a couple of weeks ago after learning the ropes in the Beginners class for a few months. Here's my first piece done in the new class and I found it quite challenging doing the feathers but I did enjoy pushing my boundaries a bit further. It's of a bald eagle done on Arches 300gsm hot press paper with Art Spectrum and Schmincke watercolors.

02.01.2022 Finally found my 'art' after the chaos of the last few weeks so was able to complete some artwork that I started before the lockdowns and will be starting on a new tutorial tomorrow. This is of a kingfisher that I did in my art class tutorial, working on a mixture of watercolours and pen.
