Remember to be COVIDSafe With thousands of people expected to visit our forests over the Australia Day weekend, we’re encouraging everyone to have a backup plan if their destination is so crowded that they cannot follow COVIDSafe advice.... We’re expecting to see high visitor numbers at local sites, including: Lake Burrumbeet Rocklands Campground Wombat State Forest The Parks Victoria website and the More To Explore app can be used to find backup recreation sites across the region. We all need to stay COVIDSafe outdoors, so our favourite spots can remain open for everyone to enjoy.

Work out what you want to do before you leave and make a plan that matches the restrictions. ... If you’re heading out to a state park or beach, check capacity numbers first or consider going to a less popular site that matches your plans. Have a back-up plan if it’s too crowded find a hidden gem instead of the usual popular spots. 19.01.2022 A 2.75m Albino (Amelanistic Morph) Burmese Python was seized from a Ballarat house yesterday. Burmese pythons are a large constricting snake native to Southeast Asia. In the wild they typically grow up to 5ms in length but in captivity they can be even longer. Due to their size, they pose a risk to members of the public and domestic pets in the event the animal escapes or is released. ... Possessing illegally imported animals, or their offspring, is a criminal offence, and is subject to penalties including up to 10 years’ jail time and fines up to $110,000. 18.01.2022 Scientists from Arthur Rylah Institute were at Lake Burrumbeet last week, studying the health of the water and lake’s fish population. The program is being undertaken in collaboration with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) because of their significant ecological knowledge and understanding of cultural values. The monitoring program is building on an earlier scoping study that explored options to control carp. Monitoring will continue until March 2021. The Lake Burrumbeet Reserve is being gradually upgraded so more people can explore and enjoy the area with funding from the Victorian Government’s Great Outdoor program.

17.01.2022 Communities near Macedon, Gisborne, New Gisborne, Mount Macedon, Ashbourne, Bullengarook and surrounds may see and smell smoke from the ignition of the Dixon Road planned burn, 2km SW of Macedon. This planned burn will be ignited Monday, 9 November, providing weather conditions and fuel moisture levels remain suitable. The burn is focused on providing the highest level of localised protection to human life, property, and community assets in the area. We encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. 02.01.2022 Did you know an unattended campfire can turn into a bushfire in a matter of minutes? This is a fire modelling scenario that starts with an unattended campfire throwing an ember into the dry bush on a hot and windy day. The small red spots are the embers being thrown in front of the fire, causing it to spread rapidly due to the windy conditions. This is why we’re reminding you if you’re planning to go camping this weekend and light a campfire, make sure you’re familiar with th...e safety rules, including never lighting a campfire on a day of Total Fire Ban and never leaving your campfire unattended. In state forests, use a purpose-built fireplace if provided, otherwise use a trench greater than 30 cm deep. The campfire must not exceed one square metre, while three metres in the air and on the ground around your fire must be clear of flammable material. Branches and logs on your campfire must not exceed one metre in length Stay within 50m and in sight of your campfire Campfires must be extinguished with water, not soil, as fires can still smoulder under soil. If a fire is cool to touch, it is safe to leave. If you light a campfire, you are legally responsible for ensuring it is safe penalties apply to those who breach the rules.
