16.01.2022 Content warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that this content contains the name of an Aboriginal person who has passed. In line with International Women’s Day and our department’s continued push for gender equality, proposed new naming rules for places in Victoria will help promote gender equality. The proposed rules will ensure women are better represented in the names of Victorian places like roads, parks and new suburbs. Lisa was a Minjungb...ul, Goernpil, Noonuccal, South Sea Islander writer, politician, activist, leader and photographer, born in Melbourne. For 20 years, Lisa produced and presented Another Koori Show on 3CR. She helped found the longest-running Aboriginal theatre company, Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Co-op. Lisa also advocated for members of the Stolen Generations, of which she was one. Lisa died in 2006. In 2018, a Carlton laneway between Nicholson and Station Streets was named Warrior Woman Lane, in Lisa Bellear’s honour. Have your say about naming more places in Victoria after people like Lisa. 16.01.2022 Check out this amazing piece of artwork in Chiltern. ‘Reverence’ is a 12 metre wide by 9 metre high mural commissioned by DELWP and created by local artist Kirrily Anderson. The Box-Ironbark Forest surrounding Chiltern is home to many of the Victoria’s most endangered plants and animals and the mural depicts 27 of these species (see if you can spot them all!) Watch the video below to hear from Kirrily and learn more about the process of bringing this artwork to life

15.01.2022 Protecting Victoria's natural environment has never been more important with a $655M budget investment to help protect, preserve and future proof our most significant biodiversity, natural wonders, parks, forests and associated infrastructure.

15.01.2022 We're launching a container deposit scheme for Victoria The scheme will reduce litter, encourage better recycling outside the home, generate clean streams of quality recyclables and create jobs across the state. 14.01.2022 This small patch of native habitat within the Pheasant Creek Flora Reserve is home to the critically endangered Shelley (or Summer) Leek-orchid and over 40 other threatened species. After a fire went through the reserve last summer, we constructed a 5-hectare deer exclusion fence to support its recovery and provide long-term protection from introduced deer. We spoke with Glen Johnson (DELWP), John Silins (Parks Victoria) and Lyn Coulston (Koetong Landcare Group) to understa...nd why this deer fence is critical to the long-term survival of these species. 11.01.2022 Thank you to Deputy High Commissioner of Canada to Australia and representatives from the High Commission of Canada for joining us at the launch of the Fallen Personnel Memorial last week to pay tribute to all our colleagues who have fallen in the line of duty, including Canadian helicopter pilot, Roger Cyr. It was an honour to be able to invite the Cyr family to participate in the Memorial event to recognise the ultimate sacrifice made by Roger Cyr and our huge thanks go to Canada Down Under for making this possible.

03.01.2022 The Victorian Government will leverage a $1.6 billion budget investment to unlock renewable energy zones across the state, improve crucial grid infrastructure, drive down emissions, and support more Solar Homes. As part of this investment, more than 600 megawatts of new, clean energy will be brought online through our second renewable energy auction creating enough energy to power 100% of the Victorian Government, from public transport to schools and government buildings. This investment will also see Victoria become the new home for innovative and transformational renewable energy projects, including the development of offshore wind and renewable hydrogen.

02.01.2022 Will there be wet weather this long weekend? Play it safe. Use the EmergencyVic and SES websites to stay alert, watch out on wet roads, plan ahead in case your planned route may become flooded and if it’s flooded, FORGET IT because it takes only 15cm of water for a car to float away. Never camp near a watercourse and never swim in floodwater, which may have strong currents and be full of debris and sewage.
