23.01.2022 Wow - this is relevant for Everyone. Most of us are aware how debilitating dementia is so here is a really relevant talk about how to reduce your risk factors. Not only that, each item mentioned, increases your life enjoyment factor now as well.

21.01.2022 Christmas and similar celebratory times can be extremely stressful for someone who is already finding life hard.

18.01.2022 If you've got a diagnosis or any sort of cognitive impairment get on to Dementia Australia and get this book Kevyn Morris, member of the Dementia Australia ...Advisory Committee and person living with dementia. If you or your loved one has recently been diagnosed with dementia, you do not have to face this alone. This can be a daunting time and there is a lot of information to take in. That’s why we developed the Dementia Australia Dementia Guide, a useful source of information written specifically for people living with dementia, their family and carers. While some of the activities listed aren’t applicable during self-isolation, this is a great time to consider what you can do now, and what could put in place in the future, and how people living with dementia can live well for as long as possible. Relevant for all people of all ages living with all forms of dementia, families and carers, and in any location across Australia, the guide is available online at dementia.org.au/resources/the-dementia-guide

16.01.2022 Over the summer holidays you may have visited family and friends who you might not have seen for some time. Maybe their memory wasn’t what it used to be, or the...y seemed to be acting out of character. Maybe you are worried they might have dementia. Common early symptoms include memory problems, increasing confusion, reduced concentration, personality or behaviour changes, apathy, withdrawal or depression, and loss of ability to do everyday tasks. If you are worried, the best place to start is with their doctor. You can find more information about diagnosing dementia from our help sheet: https://www.dementia.org.au//Helpsheet-AboutDementia02-Dia If you need support or advice, please call our National Dementia Helpline on 1800 100 500 Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm, or visit our website www.dementia.org.au/helpline.

15.01.2022 What a wonderful idea. Here in Australia we have some care centres that have veggie gardens and chooks but this farm idea is a great addition to care options.

14.01.2022 I've shared some of these posts before - but for many who have no real understanding of how all encompassing a 'memory problem' can be, it shows that.

12.01.2022 Can't stress enough how important it is to plan well for a happy and stress free Christmas for those living with dementia. Remember how stressful lots of visitors and partying can be and plan to restrict how much is expected of them. Christmas can still be wonderful but allow plenty of time for them and don't make them too tired. May all have a wonderful time.

12.01.2022 Continuing our acknowledgement of International Women's Day (8 March), Dementia Australia Ambassador and author Christine Bryden shared with us one of her proud...est moments. Since being diagnosed with dementia, I have done my very utmost to live a full life. My proudest moment was receiving my PhD in 2017. Before my diagnosis I never thought this would be possible! But with the support of my husband Paul, I have been able to achieve more than I could have dreamed of! #IWD2020

09.01.2022 This is a remarkable breakdown of indicators of time to consider nursing home care. Most importantly, she emphasizes that a carer should never compare their situation with what they hear of someone else's. It's very very common not to hear the full story and no one else really knows what the carer is going through so no judgements should ever be made.

07.01.2022 This letter brings tears to my eyes. It may be a set up, but I'm so sure that the emotion is very real. Knowing how time-poor most nurses are, and also the severe lack of training and understanding of dementia that some have, I would recommend all patients with dementia have someone with them as much as possible. Even well outside the so-called visiting hours. Speak with the hospital admin. and arrange to stay much longer to assist the patient. It helps the hospital and nursing staff too to have a much more content patient, rather than an extremely distressed and confused patient.

04.01.2022 I've done this course. Recommend it to all who are likely to come in contact with people living with dementia.

02.01.2022 I've done a lot of study through Wicking and can recommend them all.
